@covetingthepreciousthings

Was it said yet what his son had done to end up in prison? (Don't know anyone's name!)
I was wondering this, I don’t think so.

I wonder if they might do a second series? I think it could work, anyone else?

Yellowbowlbanana · 07/06/2021 22:39

I work in a prison and it was pretty accurate. I only work in a Cat C so a bit more sedate than that but I would imagine that's what a Cat A would look like. A death in custody would be a big deal and would get investigated so I think more would be done to avoid that. There are lots of safeguarding measures in place to prevent it from happening. Sadly there are many, many Bernards in prison. The system is broken and there is nowhere else for them to go.

Midnightstar76 · 07/06/2021 22:44

Just watched all three episodes on iPlayer. Very very good. Excellent acting

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/06/2021 22:56

Have to admit I've binged it.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

purpleme12 · 07/06/2021 23:25

God this is really hard hitting

I'm really worried for the people in this programme

purpleme12 · 07/06/2021 23:28

@RampantIvy

I thought it was really gripping and tense. I watched it on iPlayer tonight, and struggled with the accents. When will they put subtitles on iPlayer?

I am recording parts 2 and 3 on the PVR and can set subtitles on it for when I watch it.

There was subtitles on iPlayer for me
MrsDoctorDear · 07/06/2021 23:31

I binged it. It was so tense my neck is stiff, just the waiting to see what was going to happen next.
It was brilliant.
In bed now reading something light hearted to chill my brain!

purpleme12 · 07/06/2021 23:41

Oh my god I never knew that was his wife in This is England till now!

DeadBod · 08/06/2021 07:55

I've watched the second episode and it's going the way I thought after watching the first. I daren't comment any further in case I reveal anything.
Stephen Graham is brilliant in anything he's in (except The Irishman).

Mydogisagentleman · 08/06/2021 08:43

Late to the Stephen Graham adoration party.
I watched number 1 this morning. It was excellent. Poor Bernard.
I loved the cleaner man and hope a friendship will develop with him and Sean.
I have a couple of weeks holiday coming soon and can’t go to Portugal, so I think it’s a binge for me

longwayoff · 08/06/2021 09:02

SG just interviewed on bbc1. Seems like a genuinely nice guy. Very generous about other actors too.

the80sweregreat · 08/06/2021 12:11

I like Stephen Graham a lot. He comes across well in interviews and not at all 'starry.'
A nice normal actor! He was good in the 'save me' dramas.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 08/06/2021 13:45

I misread that as "the late Stephen Graham adoration party" - I nearly had a kitten!

I thought he'd died - luckily a quick google calmed me down and I cam back and re-read it. Please don't do that to me again, gentleman.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/06/2021 17:03

He’s lovely. Was gutter when killed in lod

He's excellent on Desert Island Discs.
MsMiaWallace · 08/06/2021 20:28

Speaking to a mate at work. She has come from a prison officer background & told me it's 'spot on' to true form of how it is.

supercee · 08/06/2021 21:51

I usually love grim gritty stuff but geez, it's uncomfortable viewing. Think it's Sean's incredible acting.

Celandines · 08/06/2021 22:11

Horrendous to think that nicer prisoners have a far greater punishment in prison than the vicious ones as they are subjected to bullying and assault

Celandines · 08/06/2021 22:12

As the Sue johnstone character said deprivation of freedom should be the punishment, not being bullied and attacked if you're nice

AbsolutelyPatsy · 08/06/2021 22:58

Sean Bean was great as that priest, and also as the transvestite, oddly enough, along with Stephen Graham as his date

Celandines · 09/06/2021 08:04

I won't say any spoilers but I had a sleepless night after watching the 2nd episode yesterday.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 09/06/2021 08:25

its the hairdresser Anthony from Fleabag Grin
