A three parter drama series about a man going to prison - not sure if he is guilty

But what happens inside with the two top dogs and a nice prison guard

Staring Sean bean

The son is on remand atm is all we know.

Whoever SB killed was 'a good man' and lots of people seemed to know him. The prison officer played by Cal McIninch mentioned he was 'a good man'.

4 years is a long sentence. I think there will be flashbacks looking at cast list.

@2Rebecca

I suspect dramas by people like McGovarn are a reason my idea of Liverpool is so grim. Every programme that has focussed on Liverpool on TV has been about deprivation. Think if I went to prison I'd try and get in to solitary. The other prisoners are grim and I'm amazed there is no one watching at meal time, phone time etc to stop the bullying. Agree giving them individual kettles seems mad. Why not cold water access in cells and hot drinks only when supervised
I'm from the city and love Jimmy Mcgovern's work, but a bit like Alan Bleasdale and Phil Redmond etc they don't give a good impression of the place, which gets annoying.
diddl · 07/06/2021 10:58

I'd quite like to watch this but think that I will have to give it a miss due to the violence!

Anyone remember The Lakes by JM?

Loved that!

augustusglupe · 07/06/2021 11:19

Yes diddl we loved The Lakes, still talk about it now.
Charles Dale (Big Mac from Casualty) played the mad Chef. He was brilliant, another actor that's really good in gritty parts but is underused.
It was one of the first things I saw John Simm in.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/06/2021 11:49

@Pebbledashery

I applied to be a prison officer but didn't make it as far as the application stage. I'm too nice apparently 🤣
SNAP! Pebble

Had an interview and everything. The other women I was with got told yes or no in about 5 minutes after their interviews - I waited about half an hour. The PO who was keeping us company said "My word - you've given them something to think about" The I got the "No." Durham E Wing will never be graced by my fragrant presence. It was an interesting experience, though. Prisons are quite intimidating places, even when you know you're not stopping.

the80sweregreat · 07/06/2021 11:55

The lakes was good. I like John Simm. He was in a prison drama once too , one off film, playing an inmate and in ' ashes to ashes' , best series ever ! ' fire up the Quattro' !!

the80sweregreat · 07/06/2021 11:56

I couldn't be a prison officer.

weekend2021 · 07/06/2021 12:06

Anyone else think that Sue Johnstone has had some ‘work’ done? She looked very different........

I didn't actually find it that violent (yet!) Most the violence seems to happen offscreen, but oh my god it was tense!
the80sweregreat · 07/06/2021 12:10

I thought Sue Johnstone looked older , but I haven't seen her on tv in ages.
(I am getting old too , the lines are harder to cover up these days especially when I first get up !)

Yes we commented that she looked younger than when she was in the royle family!
Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2021 12:41

I commented on Sue : it was odd as it looked like she had had eyes and cheeks done but not round her mouth. Just rounder in the face really.

You had me at Sean Bean. I'm logging onto bbciplayer to watch.
NurseButtercup · 07/06/2021 12:50

@the80sweregreat

I couldn't be a prison officer.
Ditto. Or a prison nurse
AlecTrevelyan006 · 07/06/2021 13:03

Sue Johnstone is only 15 years older than Sean Bean

the80sweregreat · 07/06/2021 13:06

Sean has aged well.
I think he was married to the actress that was in ' Bread' once. (Might be getting my Sean's mixed up though. )
He played a priest in a Jimmy McGovern thing once with Anna Friel.

longwayoff · 07/06/2021 13:14

God, that was grim. I'll wait and watch on iplayer I think, I need something less tense on a Sunday night. I was completely gripped, though, looks as if it will be excellent drama.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/06/2021 13:19

Seen

Loved it !!!

I think was very relistic and loved the good cast of so many well known

Loved John Corbett /old as guard

Sean needs to toughen up - give it back - should have just punched him

Tho obv a teacher he isn’t like that

Shows how a gentle man may react

Also sure screws do get threats to their families .......

Gripping as usually Jimmy’s dramas are

And yes why allow kettles in cells

Tho who was Bernard in the pact

copperpotsalot · 07/06/2021 13:22

That pool table/ cues/ balls are going to go the same way as the kettle

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/06/2021 13:31

Yes a ball in a sock and whack over the head

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/06/2021 13:33

They're all on Iplayer now. I watched the other two episodes this morning.
longwayoff · 07/06/2021 14:17

O thank you User, useful to know for watching this week.

Ooh, might give it a go then!

diddl · 07/06/2021 14:28

Wasn't Sean Bean in an episode of Morse as a prisoner & Sue Johnston was his wife?

Think the chap from One Foot in the Grave was also in it.
