Anyone watching? Bench Seat Man has gone!

I liked the dark floor.

I don't understand why the customers went from frou-frou to white box minimalist just like that. They clearly love their "stuff" - where's it all going to go ffs? The armoire looked better in the second scheme too imho.

I was a bit wtf at the imagined net curtains but the second scheme was far more "them". I liked the blue as well and the units added character.

Actually it was a lovely house to start with even though the kitchen was small. I think I would have plumped for a bog standard cheaper extension to create a bigger space, moved the dining table into said new space and left the armoire in dining room.

RedactedTaeFeck · 03/06/2021 12:08

They couldn't leave the armoire in the dining room as the ceiling height didn't accommodate the top being put on, so they needed somewhere built with a higher ceiling or lower floor. So I guess the design challenge was about accommodating that. They could have added a dining room with an apex roof maybe and then extended the current kitchen into the old dining room and been far cheaper.

Buggerthebotox · 03/06/2021 13:21

Ah yes the armoire was too tall with the top on. . Remember now. I agree about the apex roof - would have been cheaper and easier (and also able to accommodate the need for light in the kitchen).

Agreeing with the previous poster about the white box-type additions are looking a bit ubiquitous now.

I am also finding this series a bit boring. Roberts designs made such entertaining viewing

Puffalicious · 03/06/2021 16:04

Yup, bring back Robert with his man bun, top knot and bench seating! I thought the guy this week was way off- it looked like an 80s conservatory with net curtains. The final scheme was nice, but there was little comfort or personality.

Turquoisesol · 03/06/2021 16:52

Roberts designs were totally off the wall. Remember the yoga studio on the roof? It was a shame very few were installed, but also understandable!

Turquoisesol · 03/06/2021 16:53

Also - this week, she seemed to do a demo of “why extending out the back doesn’t work” then proceeded to extend out the back. Albeit knocking down an internal wall but still !

@BigRedBoat

Angela Scanlon saying Gosport feels like Dubai 🤣
DH worked in Gosport for a few years on a project - he laughed hard at that comment !
bendmeoverbackwards · 06/06/2021 23:22

Another kitchen/diner across the back, yawn. I’d like to see something different.

They should have gone for the other design, it had more character.

LOVED Angela’s dress in the last bit, anyone know where it’s from?

EastWestWhosBest · 06/06/2021 23:41

I’ve finally caught up. I am sad to see Robert go. I was always interested to see what he did and watching DH’s reaction was always fun. But it did become ‘here is Robert’s design with bench seats, a dining table that turns into a bath and sleeping pods. And here is the other design which you will actually have.’

This new bloke can fuck off. ‘I’m from Somerset and we believe in pixies’. No we don’t you dick.
But I did prefer his design. I thought it was more them. I liked the colour and cosy feel.

RubyFowler · 07/06/2021 18:20

Plus I would get the lovely Angela Scanlon visiting and could tempt her into being MY new BFF.

Evening. So jealous of their house already.

Halsall · 07/06/2021 20:16

Another tricky one with a (relatively) modest budget tonight. Let's see if they suddenly find another chunk down the back of the sofa....

Hepzibar · 07/06/2021 20:17

I wouldn't bother with the 'texture and materials' they'll go with the total opposite 😂

Halsall · 07/06/2021 20:17

BENCH SEATING ALERT!

OP posts:
jay55 · 07/06/2021 20:17

Is it the rule that they have to put bench seating in?

BunnyRuddington · 07/06/2021 20:18

Those benches look like they belong in an outward bound education institution. I hate it already.

jay55 · 07/06/2021 20:19

I would trip and face plant my dinner weekly going from kitchen to dining room. I really hate this one.

BunnyRuddington · 07/06/2021 20:20

I think it must be. They are horrific.

In my defence I've got an injury, in pain and I'm feeling pretty hateful anyway Grin

Halsall · 07/06/2021 20:22

Rough-sawn timber cabinets.....? Ooooh no. Not for me, anyway.

Rough-sawn timber cabinets.....? Ooooh no. Not for me, anyway. Me neither I'm afraid,

I missed last weeks but I'm beginning to think that double height ceilings are now law as well.

Heyduggee123 · 07/06/2021 20:26

Omg what is it with benches??? Rough sawn cabinets with kids? No thanks

jay55 · 07/06/2021 20:26

It didn't feel family friendly. Maybe they emphasised the entertaining too much in the brief.

That's architects for you. I once lived in a place an architect had lived in and redesigned. There was a built in dining table. It looked like a mortician's slab.
