I think they'll regret not having the option of closing off the snug.

Me too. Teens can be bloody noisy.

jay55 · 14/06/2021 20:51

I love the breakfast bar, gives an extra worktop so someone can sit and do some prep without getting in the way of the main cook.

covetingthepreciousthings · 14/06/2021 20:52

I think the snug works whilst the kids are small but as they grow it would be nice to have a closed off area for them.

covetingthepreciousthings · 14/06/2021 20:52

I love the pink and greens!

TheSpottedZebra · 14/06/2021 20:53

@Halsall

TheSpottedZebra your predictions win

(Any idea what the lottery numbers are for Saturday? Grin )

There will be an odd number, an even one, a more rounded one...

TheSpottedZebra · 14/06/2021 20:54

I love it, but the decor is so now that it will date fast.

And they've chucked out all their stuff and bought new, so the 'incidentals' spend must be quite high.

TheSpottedZebra · 14/06/2021 20:55

That decking is awful though. Why the lattice? So the rats get lots of light too?

jay55 · 14/06/2021 20:56

So almost doubled the budget.

Halsall · 14/06/2021 20:57

£26,500 just for the build.......

😆 I thought it looked like a giant wine rack
OwBist · 14/06/2021 20:58

£26k just for the build. No kitchen, no floors, no finishing... I did think that this might be the one to stick to the budget, but no....

covetingthepreciousthings · 14/06/2021 20:58

Where do they magic up extra money? The £25k was the top end already!

Exactly - how can the architects get the budgets SO wrong ?
covetingthepreciousthings · 14/06/2021 20:59

So how much would it have been for the fancier hinge doors etc..

I think they said he did extra hours at work.
billysboy · 14/06/2021 21:07

Pity they didn’t bring back Laura and ask her why it couldn’t be done for the budget!!

RubyFowler · 14/06/2021 21:09

They were so obviously were going to choose Laura, I thought they really weren't keen on the other guys, and no way would his have been on budget with all that moving of plumbing etc surely?

Thewinterofdiscontent · 14/06/2021 22:13

I thought it looked like a giant wine rack Me too! Freudian error though.

Lifeislikea · 15/06/2021 08:36

The dining nook was certainly cramped before but there was no need for the mother to climb over to the seat in the corner. Smile

Now it's much lighter but there are just four seats round the table for the family of five. I'd like to see it when all their stuff is back in.

unfortunateevents · 15/06/2021 08:54

That was the first thing I noticed too! So much more space around the table and yet still only 4 seats?! Why? Is someone supposed to sit on a bar stool? I'm not hugely impressed with this series, everyone seems a bit jaded and it seems to be accepted that whatever the budget it is never going to be enough. They may have been happy with the finished product but it looked quite different from how the designer envisaged it. The sliding doors looked far more ordinary than her design and the roof lights didn't turn out as the uninterrupted vista of glass either, rather a couple of veluxes in the roof?

bendmeoverbackwards · 15/06/2021 09:18

The polycarbonate was AWFUL! What was he thinking?? Glad they went with Laura’s design but hated the decking. Agree that the space underneath will attract animals.

LadyEloise · 15/06/2021 09:41

For what they wanted I thought their budget was far too low.
It certainly would be in Dublin.
I thought they did well coming in at £36,000.
I would always put in a door if possible.

Some architects have their own set ideas re the design required, I'm looking at you Dermot Bannon- Irish posters will know what I'm talking about.

Laura is practical. She really listens to the client.

Decking is out for me because of rodents.

The sand bit was funny, considering the man on last week's episode who hated sand. It would have been torture for him to have to stand in the sandpit. Smile

jay55 · 15/06/2021 11:12

The recycling the kitchen and floor man, I'd love to see him solve a small problem, like they do on the garden version.
Some of his ideas were mad but both his designs so far have tried to reuse materials creatively, so it would be nice to see that actually in action for someone on a real budget.

littlejalapeno · 15/06/2021 12:53

Laura’s ticked all the boxes for a family. I don’t understand how the other design related to the beach in any way… unless it’s a comment on how much plastic is in the sea… or that terrazzo is what they use in public buildings in hot countries and you go to hot countries to visit the beach? Or that it was the grey of a British port town in November. Underwhelming to say the least.
