Anyone watching? Bench Seat Man has gone!

It seems like architects and landscapers do this with the price, you say you can afford a certain price and it comes back a totally amazing plan but double your budget! We had this with landscapers, trying to do the garden on a tight budget, nothing amazing wanted. Came back with the plans for an Alan Titchmarsh style makeover for 3x the price 🤦🏻‍♀️

Love an entertaining space. We have a huge family - 25 of us all together (both sides) & that’s without girlfriends/boyfriends added into the mix. I do at least 3 joint family events during the year & need it! I have one small reading room tucked away at the front of the house which is my haven when I want time to myself.

Bit late to this one.

Would be nice to see an episode that wasn't all about the kitchen. Maybe someone who wants upstairs redesigned.

Having once rented a cottage right by a beautiful beach I can empathise with the guy on sand. It gets everywhere.

What happens when there's a mahoosive spider on your double-height ceiling? All the power is with the spider.

I have to say that I was fairly Hmm too about the big pitch around not digging down because it would save them so much money, only for the builder to resist and say it would cost the same to put foundations in. So no value whatsoever in the marvellous selling-point of putting in an above-ground timber structure and saving £££ to use elsewhere.

I’d have felt a bit disgruntled I think. It did sound as though maybe that idea was a large part of what sold it to them, and they didn’t get it. And ran out of money.

Another nice house being used strangely. Though agree the steps to the garden are not ideal.

covetingthepreciousthings · 14/06/2021 20:06

I don't know how they can fit round that dining table , the chairs seem so close to the walls!

billysboy · 14/06/2021 20:07

Please no bench seating !! And stick to the £25k please

20k seems a tiny budget for this show Shock

Anyone watching tonight? There seems to be a recurrence of the 'Your Garden Made Perfect' obsession with 'dangerous' steps in the garden... how do they cope with the stairs inside the house?

They could use the lounge as a family lounge diner, and the small dining room for adults.

Yeah it was a bit weird using that space for just drying washing. You'd be better utilising that more.

I didn't think the steps were that bad, or the garden. But then, we live in a house with bigger steps to the garden..
billysboy · 14/06/2021 20:11

Got to be some rooflights

woodhill · 14/06/2021 20:13

Yes there was a serving hatch

Halsall · 14/06/2021 20:13

I'm assuming from the handrails on the outside steps that it once belonged to an older person with mobility issues.

covetingthepreciousthings · 14/06/2021 20:14

I cannot see them keeping to the budget.

woodhill · 14/06/2021 20:15

@BedknobsNoBroomsticks

This series is quite bland and samey.

I would also love to see a reverse open plan episode.

Bring back Robert
Halsall · 14/06/2021 20:19

I'm continually amazed by the notion that all this could be achieved to budget. I really can't believe it, I'm afraid.

Yes these massive internal doors would not be cheap. Adding in the new kitchen, the glass roof and new doors. I can't see any room for labour costs.

And in rainy Northern Ireland wouldn't the glass roof be pretty noisy.

BigRedBoat · 14/06/2021 20:25

I don't understand the decking in relation to the height difference between the garden and the house. In the VR it looked flat but in all the real life shots the garden is at least 6' lower than the house! I presume it's a raised deck but no indication how you get from that to the garden.

Me too. Do architects not plan to budget at all? How do they get it so wrong? Is it that budgets for building vary so much? Genuinely curious if anyone is in that trade!
OwBist · 14/06/2021 20:28

Glad to see those internal doors were hinge doors and not expensive pocket sliders, but do they not know that decking is lethal when wet, too?

Halsall · 14/06/2021 20:30

We've been flirting with the idea of an extension (which is almost certainly not going to happen tbh) and have been looking into possible costs.....that's why I just cannot believe these budgets.

Not getting the beach connection

OwBist · 14/06/2021 20:32

Is that, is that.... Perspex?? Ah well, we were all missing a bit of total batshittery.
