Crime Drama starring Kate Winslet

9pm Monday 19th April Sky Atlantic

I'm so looking forward to another dark drama.

OP posts:

Speaking of children and SPOILER ALERT, the only issue I had with the ending is that from a realism perspective, I think it highly unlikely that social services would have allowed DJ to be placed as he was.

But other than that, it was so well done. Again the acting was amazing.

Cottagepieandpeas · 31/05/2021 16:15

@SenecaFallsRedux
SPOILER

It felt to me that social services weren’t involved, that he was just being passed around at will. Although that would presumably not be allowed.

SenecaFallsRedux · 31/05/2021 16:37

SPOILER
@Cottagepieandpeas I did think of that, but I doubt that in the real world, he would have been able to get the surgery without some kind of legal authority, which would have required some involvement by social services.

I thought it was a superb series, gutted its finished. Also glad I called Ryan as the murderer last week-- Wink Rethinks career as detective Grin.--

I am just wondering why Dylan was so keen to destroy the journals ? Maybe drug dealing? Or not wanting anyone to know how badly he treated Erin.

Sowhatywhaty · 31/05/2021 17:20

Oops I forgot to add MAJOR SPOILER 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻

Cocolapew · 31/05/2021 17:32

Jess said that Dylan wanted the journels destroyed in case it said who DJs dad was and he wanted him to stay with his parents who would be heartbroken to lose him.

Boredsillyathome · 31/05/2021 20:32

I was up early to watch this as we have gone away for the week and couldn't wait! It was just fantastic and I cried so much really going to miss watching it one of the best things I've watched for a long time

Moorlander · 31/05/2021 21:27

This series was so good it makes me realise how crap nearly every crime series is in comparison! I loved the reality of it so much, and especially that we got to see the aftermath of the events rather than a neat final scene where the culprit is revealed and that's the end of that. It was heartbreaking watching all the parents and children and their different kinds of grief and guilt all tangled up, but there were a few slivers of love and hope in there too. Absolute fantastic. Gutted it's over.

franke · 31/05/2021 21:49

I wish Mare had reached out to Carrie once she admitted she was using again and gave up the custody bid. But maybe it would have been too fairytale.

Brilliant last episode.

KillingMeDeftly · 31/05/2021 21:54

I predict Kate Winslet and Julianne Nicholson picking up all the best actress and supporting actress tv awards going. Just brilliant.

Newmum110 · 31/05/2021 22:05

Best thing I've watched in ages, had called the killer but still a great ending. Sad its over.

Absolutely this.

That was terrific. The scene with Lori holding Ryan when the police turned up had me in floods, and then I cried throughout the rest. Amazing acting.

My only gripe from this episode was that Ryan said he replaced the gun that night (I think?)

But the old man said that things had been going missing and then 'reappearing' since his wife had died. How did he notice the gun had gone in those few hours, weeks before his wife died?

Unless it was all just him being foggy with grief, and it was a way of shoehorning in that he had that type of gun

The old guy said he heard a noise in the shed, went out, found his gun gone. Just after Ryan took it. Ryan replaces it same night.
Cheermonger · 31/05/2021 22:15

Now that was an ending!!!!! Line of Duty Jed-man, hope you were taking notes, that was a masterclass. Brilliant series

Cleebope2 · 31/05/2021 22:23

Amazing series, women holding it all together, cleaning up the mess. The emotional punch of the last half hour has wiped me out. Sat here crying my eyes out in front of DH which I never do . Think he’s trying not to. Can they do a second series? Would could they do to follow on? Just became a huge Winslet fan all over again.

TheBobJog · 31/05/2021 22:23

Thank you, I missed that. I think I was probably telling my husband that I was right, and it was Ryan after all Grin

mommybunny · 31/05/2021 22:26

Now that it’s over do I still need to flag SPOILERS?

Anyway, feeling kind of smug right now: I called (1) DJ’s real name; (2) the fact the security camera would finger the killer and (3) Carrie starting to use drugs again to stay awake. Others called Ryan as the killer and that Carrie would just give custody of Drew back to Mare - well done to all!

Well Guy Pearce was one big fat red herring wasn’t he?

Really, really great series. Really packed an emotional punch and I’m so glad I got on board the train just before it ended.

While watching the closing credits it occurred to me that the first five cast members were women - although the “guilty” were all men the story was really driven by the women. They did an awesome job.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 31/05/2021 22:36

@mommybunny what was DJs real name?? I missed it on the computer screen! Dylan John?

extravirginoliveoil · 31/05/2021 22:55

Yes Dylan John.

mommybunny · 31/05/2021 23:00

DJ’s name showed up on the screen in the doctor’s office when Lori took DJ for his surgery.

southeastdweller · 31/05/2021 23:02

I wish there’d been one or two more episodes as I felt there was so much potential to explore the characters lives. For example, what did Lori feel about John and Erin? She was underage, perhaps, and of course related to him!

Litthefirealready · 31/05/2021 23:08

That was emotional. Fantastic last episode but I sobbed and sobbed. Really pulled at my heart strings.

Clawdy · 31/05/2021 23:13

For one dreadful moment at the very end, when Mare whispered "I'm sorry" to the little boy and went to pull the loft ladder down, I thought she was going to kill herself. Thank goodness I got it wrong!

KillingMeDeftly · 31/05/2021 23:16

Poor Lori, she already had been dealt a tough hand in life by having a child with additional needs and a cheating husband, but now she's more or less lost her son and has to care for said cheating husband's child who is her children's half-brother/second cousin. It was clear in the doctor's office scene that she had little feeling for DJ, though you can't blame her for that. He would've been better off with Dylan's parents as they really cared for him and seemed like lovely people.

PinkPoloMint · 31/05/2021 23:30

Poor Billy 😂
