So it wants us to think it’s billy.
But it’s clearly John.
I wonder if he made the brother think it was him with all the blood.

John is so calculated - caught cheating once but then hid it the second time he wouldn’t have told lori if he didn’t want mare to think it was Billy of course she is going to tell her best friend.
So now he has a cop who thinks she has the answers coming upon a scene where a panicked billy is going to pull the gun from the tackle box

southeastdweller · 24/05/2021 20:31

I've watched this on Now TV this morning but feel spoilers are best avoided until after it's broadcast tonight on Sky Atlantic (9.00 - 10.15).

Bumzoo · 24/05/2021 20:55

I can't wait til next week.

Rollergirl11 · 24/05/2021 22:03

I don’t really understand. Why does Billy think he killed Erin if he didn’t? And are we thinking that John is also the father of the baby as well as the murderer?

Etsylicious · 24/05/2021 22:06

I think John has manipulated Billy into taking the blame - maybe using his children to emotionally blackmail him...

Boredsillyathome · 24/05/2021 22:17

Can't believe there is only one more episode this whole series has been brilliant tv!

UCOinanOCG · 24/05/2021 22:18

@SenecaFallsRedux

No, there is one more episode.
Thank goodness!
southeastdweller · 24/05/2021 22:18

My hunch last week about John got stronger after watching episode 6 this morning but why does Billy think he killed Erin? Maybe he’s got a learning disability?

What a shame there was no Jean Smart this week!

GlassBoxSpectacular · 24/05/2021 22:32

Apart from her farting shoes! Grin

KillingMeDeftly · 24/05/2021 22:33

Hmm it's all threatening to go a bit Godfather Part II.

I think John's the father ~ we already know he cannot keep his pants zipped.

I'm guessing that he's somehow duped Billy into thinking he did it, but I haven't yet worked out how he manipulated the situation to make Billy think that. Confused

Schoolisback1973 · 24/05/2021 22:38

I also think it's John! The way he manipulated Billy. He purposely told Lori not to say anything. Knowing she would let Mare know..
Could he be DJ's father and not Billy?
Who is Sandra though? That's my question
I am so hooked! Watched the Episode twice..

Smokemeakipper42 · 24/05/2021 22:52

I think Billy has a drink problem and probably blacked out over the course of previous important events.John is using that to convince him his involved.Maybe that’s why he refused to finish his beer in the last episode .Knowing that bad things happen when he drinks.

TheBobJog · 24/05/2021 23:00

My guess at this point is that Billy drinks too much, too often, and on the murder night he has blacked out then subsequently woken up covered in blood. He's been manipulated by John, but somewhere deep down knows that John is involved, hence the 'taking responsibility' line at their dad's house.

Nospringchickendipper · 24/05/2021 23:11

If it is John poor Lori because she still loves him Why did he tell her not to say anything to Mare.
What is Dylan up to.Can’t wait till next week.

WobblyLondoner · 24/05/2021 23:24

I'm assuming it's John like others, though quite how he has convinced Billy he did it baffles me. But how & where does evil Dylan fit in?

The scene with Drew in the bath Shock
Heart stopping. Assume the implication is that his mum succumbed to drugs again, despite being able to say no earlier?

I didn’t think so, I think it’s that she’s so exhausted. God that was awful to watch!
GlassBoxSpectacular · 24/05/2021 23:46

I think it’s actually the opposite: she’s knackered from working three (I think) jobs, but when I colleague offered her something to ‘wake her up’ (I’m guessing some form of amphetamine) she said no and walked away - hence her falling asleep later.

GlassBoxSpectacular · 24/05/2021 23:50

Yes, I think so too: on some level Billy ‘knows’ (or at least suspects) he didn’t actually do it, but presumably he doesn’t know what actually did happen and knows that there is incriminating evidence against him. He definitely knows John is dodgy, though, hence taking the hidden gun on the weird, random ‘trip’

SpeckledFrogsLog · 25/05/2021 06:50

I wondered whether the incident with Drew would be a trigger for his mom to start taking drugs again.

Am I the only one who thinks there's something a bit shifty about Guy Pearce and thinks there'll be some sort of twist there?

Oh and I only realised last night that Mare's mom is not Kim Cattrall 🤦‍♀️

banivani · 25/05/2021 06:50

Very exciting! I strongly suspect poor Lori is going to have her world shattered.

Frankly though the biggest surprise of the episode was Mare getting the badge back. It lost a lot of gritty credibility there and became another cop show (although maybe it’s an accurate representation of how the US police works. Line of Duty it wasn’t!).

I am def suspecting John. I know Lori said he was sleeping with Sandra again, Ryan saw them, but when we saw that convo Ryan broke down and cried so maybe she’s guessing this and Ryan actually saw his father with Erin or something. Most likely does seem to be Billy though I agree!

KillingMeDeftly · 25/05/2021 06:52

The actress playing Lori is very good too. I've always thought she looked like a young Shirley MacLaine.

SydneyCarton · 25/05/2021 07:14

I think John told Lori knowing she’d tell Mare and then the police would think Billy was the father of the baby and Erin’s murderer. John then plans to shoot Billy and make it look like a guilty suicide. But Billy’s seen the gun and now knows something’s up.

Still not sure what Evil Dylan is up to. If he knew Erin’s journals said he wasn’t the father why did he seem to think he was until the paternity test? And not sure why that other boy was involved as well as Erin’s friend?

banivani · 25/05/2021 08:22

I think the journals said something about Dylan's criminal activity. Involved in prostitution ring? Drug dealing? Our first impression of him was that he was evil through passivity but the subsequent scenes show him more cunningly and manipulatively evil.

Agree on Lori looking like young Shirley M

GlassBoxSpectacular · 25/05/2021 09:32

I honestly can't work out what his character is 'for'. I know GP wasn't cast in the role in the first place, so the fact that a 'big name' is laying Richard might be a bit misleading, but unless something happens in the last episode, it does seem that it he is just a mediocre writer serving as a 'maybe/on-off' love interest for Mare. Confused

Oh and I only realised last night that Mare's mom is not Kim Cattrall

Grin They do look very similar ~ I recall having the same confusion when Jean Smart was in 'Frasier'
