Crime Drama starring Kate Winslet

9pm Monday 19th April Sky Atlantic

I'm so looking forward to another dark drama.

Ah ok you’re just thinking generally about genetics Grin gotcha!

OrigamiParrot · 18/05/2021 19:13

I wondered if Dylan and Erin’s friend were actually getting rid of the journals in order to keep a secret for Erin, as a (misplaced) mark of respect for her rather than to protect themselves. It’s just the way Dylan said a couple of times ‘we said we wouldn’t read them’.

Sideofnoreturn · 18/05/2021 19:15

This is funny:

SNL skit based on it.

I think the killer will be someone we know - would be too disappointing if they were also an outsider given all the intrigue with the characters we’re familiar with. I wonder if the other priest - Mare’s cousin - is dodgy?

OrigamiParrot · 18/05/2021 19:17

Doesn’t the baby need grommets? Quite sure that glue ear is not caused by incest!

God, I hope not, I had it as a child 🤣

I didn’t realise it was just glue ear, the references to surgery made me think it was more serious. It would be awful if the money for the operation was a motive for her murder, when in the U.K. she could’ve had it done on the NHS for free Sad

southeastdweller · 18/05/2021 19:35

I agree it’ll be someone familiar to us. So now I think it’s John who killed Erin as she may have threatened to tell everyone his brother Billy is the father of DJ. Ryan found out about his dad and that’s why he’s acting up - John cheating on Lori is a red herring.

WobblyLondoner · 18/05/2021 20:17

Oh my, that was an episode and a half. Such a fantastic cast, and KW is absolutely brilliant.

One thing that I'd missed - I thought Dylan was seriously injured and in a wheelchair, so was a bit surprised to see him so mobile. I realised I'd lost track of the timeline slightly. Was shocked to see Erin's friend helping him to find the diaries.

I even felt (almost) sorry for Dylan's girlfriend who previously if just found loathsome.

Clawdy · 18/05/2021 21:09

That last ten minutes was ridiculously tense, so well-done, just wonder how there can be two episodes left though, even though Erin's killer is obviously not the guy keeping the girls prisoner.

Noshowlomo · 18/05/2021 21:26

@southeastdweller love this theory

Kona84 · 18/05/2021 21:37

Definitely a silence of the lambs vibe.
They should really have backed out of there and called for back up.
Especially since Mare had no weapon.
Wish the girls had screamed. I was a bit lost with the layout of the place though.
The girls looked to be in a basement shaking the pipes and looking up.
But mare went upstairs and found them.

I’m not sure who killed Erin I’ve lost track of who is who.

banivani · 18/05/2021 22:10

It seems like Dylan could be more of a criminal mastermind I think. We were all thinking Brianna was the baddest one but he seems to have a whole crime gang going and needed the diaries burnt - evidence?

I said at the start that whoever killed Erin will have been introduced to us in the first episode and I think I’m right. Grin

GlassBoxSpectacular · 18/05/2021 22:36

But mare went upstairs and found them.

Did she find them upstairs? I was sort of half watching that scene as I found it really tense and stressful. But I don’t recall her finding them upstairs, I thought she just ended up there when she was trying to get away from him.

WobblyLondoner · 18/05/2021 22:43

It definitely seemed upstairs to me - and the OP is right, I'd also thought they were in a basement but that may well have been assumption based rather than anything more.

Maybe I’d just assumed basement because I was thinking of Joseph Fritzel Confused
PinkSatinMoon · 18/05/2021 23:24

Yes she ran upstairs saw the girls .. the sound of them battering that drain pole making it rattle was funny... anyone else live here 'rattle rattle' eh no 😏 Fail lol

I had to keep looking away as I was far too stressed, so that’ll be why it’s all a random mess in my head and I don’t know what’s up and what’s down! Grin
Nospringchickendipper · 18/05/2021 23:31

Just caught up with this weeks episode. It had me laughing at the funeral scene and crying at the last scene.

KatherineJaneway · 19/05/2021 07:02

IMO they couldn't. He knew they were onto him and the likelihood was he would kill the girls and flee before they returned with backup.

GlassBoxSpectacular · 19/05/2021 09:27

That’s what I thought too - though I felt he’d go for murder/suicide.

Kona84 · 19/05/2021 11:48

But they could have stayed around the house the back up came quite quick

GlassBoxSpectacular · 19/05/2021 11:59

There’d still have been plenty of time for him to run to the girls, shoot them both, then shoot himself.
SenecaFallsRedux · 19/05/2021 12:52

I think it was realistic. You could almost see the thought processes on all three of them. I think we the audience are supposed to perceive that leaving and calling for back-up would have been certain death for the young women captives. What will be interesting to see is how Mare's superiors will view what happened, especially since she wasn't even supposed to be there.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 19/05/2021 14:54

God that was so tense. Brilliant acting throughout.
On a side note, DJ only had glue ear, which DS had multiple times - I can vouch with 100% surety that DH and I are only related through marriage 😂

Purplekitchen · 20/05/2021 14:32

I am loving this series. KW is a brilliant actor and love too how she can go from Frumpsville to Glamcity with a slick of lipstick and a hairbrush.
There was a bit I really found unrealistic when he gets our his phone as he's stalking her and can instantly see the cctv images. I've got this option on our cctv and it usually goes like this:
Get phone out
Enter passcode/fingerprint
Find cctv app
Enter password as it always logs me out
Search for camera
Message : connection failed
Reboot ...

RedHotChiliChips · 20/05/2021 15:05

I am devastated about Zabel Sad Just when he showed some fire in his character. Feels so unfair. I loved watching him.

I wonder what the implications for Mare will be now. We all root for her but she really is a loose cannon and her actions could have her killed too and leave her remaining child and grandchild without a parent. "Luckily" it wasn't her who got shot. Hugely irresponsible behaviour from her part.

The girls were definitely locked up in the attic. There was a shot when Mare was up there, there was a glimpse through the broken floor board below where you could see a part of Zabel lying down and the gun next to him. Unbelievably tense and agree with the SOTL vibe!

Does Dylan know the baby isn't his yet? I don't think this has been shown yet? Or are they keeping that information to themselves (police) for now?
