New thread... really hope the title doesn’t offend anyone! I actually really admire how sensitively the story was handled!

Anyway... Corrie in 1998.

I knew I could rely on you, x2boys! Thanks so much.

I was sure that, if anyone replied, it would be you! 👍🏻😘

Yes, Judy’s pint was a big error from the props department.

Im a Joanne Froggatt fan but I’m so bored of the Zoe story now. Next!

Maggiesfarm · 12/05/2021 10:02

@MaudGrimesRIP

Judy with child & pint of bitter !
Women often used to drink and smoke moderately during pregnancy.
eggandonion · 12/05/2021 10:05

Bottles of Guinness for the iron. My doctor felt the odd unit of alcohol was fine 30 years ago.
A pint of bitter, I would have kept fit rushing for a wee.

Not sure what year we are up to, but I had DS in 91 and it was quite normal to have a glass of cider or lager at the pub once a week. Spirits were frowned on.
eggandonion · 12/05/2021 11:50

My ds is also 1991, the health visitor was keen on a drink to increase milk production, and the odd bottle of fennel tea during cluster feeding. The Midwife recommended warm water to deal with after pain, and whiskey and glycerine on the nipples.

If I were Jim and coming around slowly, I'd definitely be pretending I was more comatose than Steve thinks . Crafty git.

Liverbird77 · 12/05/2021 20:49

I've said it before but I have to say it again; Sam has become a completely different character and it just isn't believable.
I think Corrie has started a slow shark jump.
Looking forward to the arrival of the icon that is Ravi Desai, but in general the comedy has gone.

In the latest edition of my favourite spin-off show, ‘Ooh, What’s She Been In?’, Greg’s mother is Carolyn Pickles - best known as Shelley in Emmerdale (murdered by Lorraine Chase), but also of The Bill fame, and the lesbian journalist in Broadchurch. She’s also the real-life niece of Christina Pickles, who plays Judy Geller in Friends.

eggandonion · 14/05/2021 19:30

Broadchurch, thank you!

x2boys · 14/05/2021 20:05

Yes I had to Google ,her father was a high court judge too!
Does Morgan have a passport ,he's only three months old ,how can they go to Tenerife so quickly?

StillCoughingandLaughing · 14/05/2021 22:57

Yes, Judge Pickles was always in the press when I was young. He famously described a child abuse victim as being ‘no angel’.

I think you could add children to adult passports in those days? When I was growing up I was always listed on my parents’ passports - I didn’t have my own until I was 16.

I love Classic Corrie but, not finding the current storylines to be that good. "The Hospital" is dreadful. Samantha is awful, mainly because the actress is not very good. Natalie is so much more likeable, even though I expected her to be the opposite ! The biggest surprise for me was the scene with Les & Leanne ! Can't believe I am saying this about Les Battersby ! It was lovely except, my bad, I kept waiting for the shouting and it didn't happen ! Very different from my memories of the Battersbys.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 14/05/2021 23:39

I’m surprised they’ve never brought Greg back. Leanne, Toyah and Sally could all be involved in that story.

OP posts:
x2boys · 15/05/2021 10:20

Yes I thought the scene between Leanne and Les was very touching .

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 19/05/2021 08:46

I was a bit ShockConfused when Liz just dumped Jim on top of the duvet when she helped him to go to bed, and then just toddled off upstairs.

No attempt to put him inside the bed, or even cover him up with a blanket!

I know he had his dressing gown on, but even so...

I can't imagine he had a very comfortable night's sleep 💤

x2boys · 19/05/2021 09:05

I can't imagine he did ,how does he manage if he needs the Loo?
Would Gail not have recognised Darren Whatley when he came into the cafe ? Surely she went to the murder trial ?

x2boys · 19/05/2021 20:11

You Would have thought someone would have thought to make Jim's ,hall way more wheel chair friendly ?

StillCoughingandLaughing · 19/05/2021 23:21

Also, who kept ringing him, knowing he’d struggle to reach the phone?

MrsDoctorDear · 19/05/2021 23:27

For the love of God when is Samantha leaving?! She is a nightmare.

Maggiesfarm · 20/05/2021 01:33

Soon I think, MrsDoc. She has turned out to be quite horrible; there is nowhere else to go with her, short of her becoming psychotic and attacking Des (which is probably how it would be played nowadays), so it is time for her to get on her bike and zoom off into the sunset.

Natalie is an odd one too, especially for a mature woman; she was in love with, and frankly predatory over, Kevin only five minutes ago and now says she is in love with Des. Who will undoubtedly use her.

eggandonion · 20/05/2021 12:32

Surely they'd have bought Jim a cordless phone (we got one in 1990), and I pointed out to dh I'd put a quilt over him. Do they have an outside toilet still? As well as inside?

StillCoughingandLaughing · 20/05/2021 17:04

I didn’t remember Sam going quite this barmy.

I do remember thinking at the time that the Paul Fisher storyline was a bit far-fetched. Do mental health units really just let people walk off the street to join their internal group therapy sessions? Perhaps the manager was the same one who sent a convicted killer into a college to have a chat with the students (one of whom just happened to be the murder victim’s son)?

No they don't ,I used to be a mental health nurse, iand on 98 was working in acute in patient care which is where Zoe will be,I thought it was extremely strange too🙄 The only thing I could think was the unit I worked on used to have a day hospital ,which in patients like Zoe would go to for groups when they were getting better Out patients could also attend after discharge ,so unless Paul had been an inpatient and then discharged it would have been highly unusual
MrsDoctorDear · 21/05/2021 01:10

Sam and her pleather kecks need to go. I am bored with the storyline now. I said to DH imagine we were watching this in real time🙄 and Jim in bed when we know he's going to jump up and say 'how about yeh Liz/Steve/Gary'. And can Gary buy jeans that fit or just wash/shrink his rusty ones😂
