New thread... really hope the title doesn’t offend anyone! I actually really admire how sensitively the story was handled!

Anyway... Corrie in 1998.

@thenightsky

What have I seen Sally's solicitor in before? I feel she's a comedy actress.
That’s Claire Rushbrook. She was in Secrets and Lies, No Offense and Carrie and Barry (amongst others).
GreenClock · 31/08/2021 20:37

Secrets and Lies was brilliant. Roy Cropper is in one scene too, as a customer of the photographer. Smile

Redglitter · 01/09/2021 19:07

Martins such a prick. Poor Audrey has just lost her husband and he's harassing her about council stuff

Akire · 01/09/2021 19:15

Have we all done with the Trans issue stuff? Few months of shall we spill beans at factory and everyone on street happy as Haley one of girls forever more?

The amount of time Kev & Sally both spend in the pub why they don’t do 50/50 care I don’t know. It’s going costs them half weekly wage in babysitters.

Because I know what modern Sharon is like I can’t get head around her thinking this fella for hers is real and she planning proper wedding not some do Rita over thing.

thenightsky · 01/09/2021 20:48

Martin is vile to Audrey. Poor Audrey Sad

x2boys · 01/09/2021 20:56

Martins a twat hes only has principles when they suit himHmm

x2boys · 01/09/2021 20:58

Did everybody see the tribute to Alfie today?

southeastdweller · 01/09/2021 20:58

Lorraine is such a boring and pointless character.

x2boys · 01/09/2021 20:59

@southeastdweller

Lorraine is such a boring and pointless character.
Oh god yes, simpering and pointless!
Akire · 01/09/2021 21:13

Did everybody see the tribute to Alfie today?
Yes must been feeling months real time since he died on screen. Wasn’t a huge gap was it. Does the Maud character live on the street? Hope they don’t get rid now she’s not in the shop.

Still can’t see Gail and Martin together or romantically entwined. She’s like his mum and constantly tells him off all the time.

x2boys · 01/09/2021 21:32

The actor died sadley about six weeks after his last appearance 😢
Unfortunately Gail and Martin dont last much longer....

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 02/09/2021 13:57

Isn't it strange how our perceptions of people change with age and maturity?

Alison doesn't seem anywhere near as drippy and soppy as I thought she was in 1999!

I'm actually quite liking her now, and the way she's managing her relationship with Kevin.

Denise Welch, as Natalie, has been brilliant this last couple of weeks.

She is totally believable. I think she's fabulous Star

WomanStanleyWoman · 02/09/2021 16:09

I remember reading at the time that they were grooming her as the modern day Elsie Tanner. Watching again now, I think it actually worked pretty well.

Look at young Jai! Shock Nowt but a babby, as my Nan would have said.

Tiaandchewy79 · 02/09/2021 19:57

Good episode today with the seventies disco.
Best scene was Roy turning up dressed as John Travolta in a white suit and quiff! He almost looked fanciable.
Second best scene was Mike Baldwin thinking he had won the prize for ‘always wearing good seventies clothes! ‘
Hope Tyrone’s mum goes soon; her ‘acting’ is grating on me….

Akire · 02/09/2021 20:05

Yes Roy was very sweet. Throw Lez out he isn’t even claiming the dole. Although even then booze wasn’t cheap as chips still about half an hour wage on mim wage.

Historical fact mim wage came in 1998 started on £3.50 an hour so a pint was £1/50-2 still lot of days wages in 4-5 drinks a night. How does Lez actually do it? No money bread and milk but here’s £2 for chippy!

x2boys · 02/09/2021 20:19

Surely Les must be claiming job seekers or something?
Janice cant afford, the rent, bills food, and all they both drink at the rovers on her wage?
Plus would she not be entitled the whatever the 1990,s equivalent of tax credits was?

Akire · 02/09/2021 20:23

Think was family credit back in the day but wasn’t huge amount she would been better off as single parent I’m sure.

I do like them showing how tough being broke is and the reality of money arguments for the working poor. I think I’ve only ever seen once on soap when light go out when electric meter runs out and you need put on emergency money. Yet millions people on pre paid it’s very common occurrence. Just another part of working class daily experience air brushed out society that quiet sad.

GreenClock · 02/09/2021 22:58

Les is on disability benefits. It was mentioned before that he’s pretending to have a bad back. I guess he spends all his money on himself and Janice covers the household bills. It’s awful what some women put up with.

Akire · 03/09/2021 15:45

Is Sharon really thinking this guy is ok? I thought getting Rita pay towards wedding was a scam. Is this A step son of Audrey I’m confused.

GreenClock · 03/09/2021 18:49

I think the vicar was also the vicar in Gavin & Stacey 😆

x2boys · 03/09/2021 19:29

@GreenClock

The one who married Gavin and Stacey, who kept going on about sandwiches? 😂
WomanStanleyWoman · 03/09/2021 19:48

Does anyone else think Maggie Jones (Blanche) was ill when they filmed these episodes? There was a lot of ‘Blanche said this, Blanche did that’ without us actually seeing her - plus it felt like a lot of Emily’s dialogue was meant for Blanche.

x2boys · 03/09/2021 19:59

Maybe i hadent thought of it, but yes it makes sense
Seems strange looking back that same sex marriage was considered such an outrageous concept, only 20 ish years ago!

Akire · 03/09/2021 20:20

I tried look it up think 2005 you could get married if you had gender Reg certification which since Haley has been living as women and had OP she would easily got, and be able legally change documents to female sex. So they not got to long to wait.

But comparing other social issues Disabled people only got legal right to live in community not just in care homes in I think in 2006. And Disability discrimination Act that made it illegal for first time to treat Disabled people different and not just deny jobs or shops access was 2010!

Akire · 03/09/2021 20:21

No I take it back the Disability law was 22y old recently so 1999. Though I still can’t get in most my local shops so it’s not exactly changed the world!
