Have a feeling EE is going to do Isaacs storyline really badly. Why play spooky music while someone is disposing of their medication and trying to create a sense of foreboding? They are going to fall flat on their arse with this storyline and not really understand what they are trying to portray like they have with the DV storyline.

the80sweregreat · 23/04/2021 21:48

I agree that to tackle a subject such as schizophrenia is going to be badly handled.

Pebbledashery · 23/04/2021 22:01

There's no way the schizophrenia storyline is going to be sensitively handled. Eastenders is so clunky in comparison to Coronation Street when they depict real life situations.

lazymum99 · 23/04/2021 22:24

Isaac mentioned that he had been ok for years on his meds and not had another psychotic episode. Does anyone know if meds can keep such an illness at bay for so long or is EE taking liberties with this storyline?

dogsdinnerlady · 24/04/2021 11:04

Surely someone as supposedly intelligent as Isaac would know that you can't just stop meds. Why are the writers jumping on the racism bandwagon all of a sudden? Implying that Patty is being used as a lab rat because of his skin colour.
Also, surely the train driver would have had a clear view of Kush being pushed off the platform. Are they really going to let this one go as another mysterious 'accident'? It's really lazy writing imo.

SoupDragon · 24/04/2021 11:12

I think it's because the "lab rat" perception and lack of trust has been in the news linked to the lower than average uptake of Covid vaccination in the black communities.

iknowimcoming · 24/04/2021 11:15

@dogsdinnerlady agree with the lazy writing! Remember when Phil/Kat/Shirley/Kush did the car heist? About 10 police cars arrived! Someone gets pushed under a train whilst fleeing after grassing on a well known dodgy family and the police shrug and say 'the cctv was broken' righty o then!

nancy75 · 24/04/2021 11:22

@the80sweregreat

It's all very quick to start going up loan companies isn't it? Mitch is a plumber I believe so he can continue to work. Bernie is working for Suki. I know rent is huge in London, but she must be able to receive some help ? Housing benefit? ( I don't know anything about how it works to be fair !) She couldn't have been earning a huge amount in the launderette. It's sad it's come to this though.
It’s a council flat so rent so t be anything like ‘normal’ London rents. She’s get job seekers allowance at least - she was working & has lost her job. EE is very poor when it comes to benefits, look at the slaters - 300 kids & a pensioner living in the house at one point & yet no money coming in. They would definitely have been getting financial help
UhtredRagnarson · 24/04/2021 11:48

During lockdown Linda started working in the laundrette. She must have left to go back to work in the pub and now they’ve sacked Karen so who is running it?

woodhill · 24/04/2021 11:54

Why was she sacked anyway?

UhtredRagnarson · 24/04/2021 11:56

I think he said that finances were bad and they could afford to keep her on. So he must be playing to out in the tabard himself.

UhtredRagnarson · 24/04/2021 11:56

put on

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2021 12:02

@UhtredRagnarson

Mr P's son, who runs the launderette for him, said that didn't need Karen anymore : maybe his family are going to run instead? He did try to give her some redundancy money, but she got the wrong end of the stick about it and thought he was trying to sleep with her! So she missed out on some money there. She couldn't have earned a huge amount there and must have been on some top up benefits too? Anyway, it's all just a silly ploy to get Bernie to become Rainie and Stuart's surrogate mum. ( The girl whose own baby was born asleep. Not a good idea at all really )
LeaveTheBentBastard · 24/04/2021 12:13

I really hope they don't do a traditional EE birth where there is always an accident, health issue or not getting to the hospital in time and giving birth in the bogs of the Vic with Phil Mitchell staring up the person's dress. Grin

LeaveTheBentBastard · 24/04/2021 12:36

@lazymum99

Isaac mentioned that he had been ok for years on his meds and not had another psychotic episode. Does anyone know if meds can keep such an illness at bay for so long or is EE taking liberties with this storyline?
I've worked with people who have been very ill in the past, and usually they stop taking medication before they relapse, or it is a life event/change in medication due to side effects that might lead to it. A lot of the time it was drug and alcohol use alongside not taking meds that would lead to hospitalisation. Some of the side effects are awful, so you would understand why people wouldn't want to take anti-psychotics. I know someone who has been well for decades and meds work really well for her, although she still hears voices and has to live with that.

My main fear is how they depict Schizophrenia if Isaac is to relapse. The music they played while he chucked his meds down the sink, was suggesting we should be scared! It would be weird if they try to address the issue of stigma with some mental illness with Isaac being honest to people, while adding to it by making his relapse something that we should gawk at as entertainment. They've introduced the storyline and turned it to a relapse within weeks, which is such a shame. They are right about bias in diagnosing mental illness with gender and ethnicity though. There are lots of studies on it.

I could be wrong though and they do a good job with it, but lately I've felt that EE has been written by teenagers. The weird spooky music is just really odd and out of place too.

iknowimcoming · 24/04/2021 12:38

Well as @the80sweregreat said bernie's baby died, so keeping on with the lazy writing theme, I predict she won't be able to give them the baby when the time comes or she'll get pnd and snatch the baby afterwards. We haven't had a stealing a baby storyline for a while have we ..... Hmm

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2021 12:47

I hope that Rainie says no to Bernie.
It's really a bad idea.
I'm sure that Isaac would have to inform the school about his meds too ? Or isn't anything to do with your employer?
When he split up with his other g/f he was in a bad way apparently, so he might not have been able to work then , so they might know about it anyway? Would you affect you being in such a trusted position as a teacher?
Whatever happens, it won't be handled very well I bet. You can't just stop taking medication like that ( as Jean has discovered in the past too)

Akire · 24/04/2021 12:48

I think benefit issue was she was still claiming for the boys so imagine at least UC levels if not disability benefits. Not sure why she might give their dad one set of benefits but not cancel the second. But she said something about having UC credit cut to pay back what she over claimed.

But still there are now 2 other adult earning in the house and only 1 child. So Bernie and the dad would be expected pay most of the rent and costs. Don’t know any other adult on benefits who can say to a full time earning adult child it’s ok you don’t have any living expenses I will get into debt for you.

There is really no way the cctv would be down on an entire tube station, due to the ongoing terror threat these days.

lazymum99 · 24/04/2021 15:25

I don't know how they will manage to portray Isaac relapsing when he stops his meds. But they did well in depicting both Stacey and Jean having manic episodes and then crashing onto a low.

TotoAnnihiliation · 24/04/2021 20:17

I feel we don't know Isaac well enough as a character to notice anything other then stereotypical schizophrenia. Will we notice if he presents with another personality?

lazymum99 · 24/04/2021 21:00

@TotoAnnihiliation schizophrenia is nothing to do with another personality. Do some research on internet to get the gist of what it is.

TotoAnnihiliation · 24/04/2021 21:26

@lazymum99 I think you have misunderstood what I was trying to say. Most people see schizophrenia as multiple personalities. I know that is not the case, however, I feel that is how EE will show it.

As a viewer we don't know much about Isaac, I don't see how they could take it down that route of another personality if we don't know who is meant to be in the first place. We don't have any character depth like we did with Stacey and Jean when they represented their mental health breakdowns.

I hope I have made sense. I'm by no means an expert on mental health and psychiatric conditions. I do have an idea that EE can balls this up, especially with the introduction of the sinister music.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/04/2021 22:11

Not sure why Issac is binning his pills. He said hasn’t had an episode for years

So why deliberate ruin his illness

Unless they use Stuart’s sperm and iui then Bernie wouldn’t get preg

Medically she is overweight to do ivf

She was desperate for her own baby and now thinking of having one for another couple

Plus raine and uncle fester have no money

Tho they should as both work

I think Isaac has convinced himself that his schizophrenia has been misdiagnosed and he is simply misunderstood, like his brother Paul was. That's why he's getting rid of his pills, because he thinks he doesn't need them!

And Raine and Stuart do somehow have money as they were going to pay Tiffany a shed load to have their baby, remember?
