Can’t wait to go to Porthleven now, cmon Jude

jay55 · 12/05/2021 20:58

Squid ink aside. I think that was a good round. The best fish round we've had I think, even if the scores were not crazy high as in other rounds.

Sunbird24 · 12/05/2021 20:59

Ooh, who do we think is coming in tomorrow?!

At least they all cooked fish…

Love Jude and always want him to go far in this show.

The rose dish was so pretty.

No to mealworms. I feed them to the birds in the garden and have never been tempted to nibble one, mainly due to the strong nutty, bloody, fishy smell.

iklboo · 13/05/2021 01:24

Oh poor Jude! Very close call between Nat & Ellie though.

Sunbird24 · 13/05/2021 19:58

Checking in for SW region mains, pre-puds, puds and a mystery chef judge!

Hoping for some lovely pudsz

Sunbird24 · 13/05/2021 20:04

Ooh, Richard Corrigan!

Swapping the lovely Angela for shouty man is not good.

I do like the look of all Jude's meat.

jay55 · 13/05/2021 20:12

My parents used to have ashtrays from Concorde, they never travelled by it, I think someone nicked em and sold them out the back of a van.

Sunbird24 · 13/05/2021 20:16

How has every region managed to claim the miners’ lamp?

No idea. I suppose the Cornish tin mines are wet so need a different type of lamp.
jay55 · 13/05/2021 20:21

Those chips did look great fun.

jay55 · 13/05/2021 20:28

No suspense over who goes through to tomorrow's

TrashPanda · 13/05/2021 20:37

I tend to watch a week behind so I can do all 3 episodes in one go but did anyone else laugh slightly at the difference between Daniel Clifford and Tom Aikens with the plating stuff? Daniel going mad that the other chefs were helping and Tom saying how nice it was they were working together and helping each other out.

Sunbird24 · 13/05/2021 20:40

Yeah, no consistency in the judging!

The aerial on my car snapped randomly when I was driving past goonhilly once, never worked out how… 👽

OP posts:
jay55 · 13/05/2021 20:40

The annoyance at the help soured the whole week. And yes the opposite view coming out was hilarious.

Goonhilly, is a childhood throwback for me, we holidayed on the lizard every year and always made up stories about what all the dishes did.

TrashPanda · 13/05/2021 20:44

Glad it wasn't just me who had a wry smile. I agree that Andi is fabulous. When she first started I wasn't completely sure but she has definitely grown on me.

Andi did a thing where her and her daughter had to drive miles in competition with other celebs, I thought she was fab in that too, she handled Miquita's slightly drama queeny behaviour well.

Sunbird24 · 13/05/2021 20:56

Oh bless Elly!

I know chefs are busy people but I think they would do well to watch loads of past episodes to learn what does and doesn't work well on this show. Never do sous vide, never microwave a sponge, never cook something which could be accused of being a restaurant-standard roast dinner, and if you're just going to serve something on a plate with a card explaining the inspiration then remember you'll be up against people who've built their own rocket-launcher or steamship.

jay55 · 13/05/2021 21:42

Totally agree and many will have had furlough time to watch.

I like shouty man, but I've only seen him on GBM. He seems a bit intimidating, but has a twinkle in his eye and is always respectful of the chefs. Kind too. The chefs were having a bit of fun with him, which I doubt they would do if he wasn't a nice person. There was more gentle banter going both ways than I've seen with other chefs.
Wiebsa · 14/05/2021 15:07

Oh good there is a thread for this! I have come round to this series, didn’t like it before but Andi is great in it. She has that firm no nonsense thing, knows about food, but also so quick to laugh and supportive of the chefs. I have met Shouty Man (if it’s him, how do you know it is him?) and he’s fine really, bit brusque maybe but a good heart. I was enjoying Angela’s judging, shame she had to step out.

Would love to eat at Jude’s in Cornwall.

Whitney168 · 14/05/2021 15:11

I am glad to see that some judges are disapproving of sous vide, hopefully its use will reduce - gives an odd texture, I think.
