Who’s looking forward to this?
Grace is a detective. Written by Peter James, there are 15 books in the series I think and I have read them all.
Can’t wait to see this TV adaptation.

Gave up on it - the coffin was just too much. I really dislike that sort of behaviour - I’m turning into a right old trout !

Every time I see John Sim in this, I think of Jasper Carrot ConfusedGrin

KatherineJaneway · 19/03/2021 22:58

I rather enjoyed it.

YES!!! Shock
purpleme12 · 20/03/2021 21:47

How did it end? What happened to the person in the coffin?
I couldn't cope with it

Purplerunner · 21/03/2021 07:34

@Ringonrighthand

I liked it but John simm is not how I picture Roy grace at all!
Totally agree! And what was going on with his accent?
luckylavender · 21/03/2021 10:59

I've read all the Grace books and live in Brighton. I didn't like it at all. It was disjointed and John Simm (who I love) didn't inhabit Grace in the way I would have liked. He was too weedy and timid. The book is so much better.

I had to ditch it quite quickly. I love the Grace books but this wasn't Roy Grace.

purpleme12 - person in coffin rescued. Cant quite remember how. I think through the father of the young boy who picked up the walkie talkie.

His bridge turned out to be a serial marrier with husbands somehow dying, and she got the bestman to pull the air line out as she was having an affair with him. But ... in fact she had a long term partner who was part of all the plots, not just this one but the earlier husbands.

But it was all very clunkily done.

purpleme12 · 21/03/2021 18:25

Thank you

diddl · 26/03/2021 20:25

"But it was all very clunkily done."

I've just watched it & was coming on to say the same thing.

Maybe the plot just didn't work for me?

He was rescued from the coffin as they needed him to get to the money I think.

Then Grace found him by satnav on a car that Ashley & her partner had been using.

Really enjoyed the Peter James Dead Simple novel but didn't think much of the TV adaptation... How could they do that to the ending? Very disappointed

Orchidflower1 · 29/03/2021 21:48

Thank you to @Twospaniels for recommending the book. I thoroughly enjoyed it- read it over two days!

I recorded the show and watched it over two nights at the weekend. I thought it was a bit disjointed and I didn’t like that they switched the ending.

Twospaniels · 30/03/2021 07:24

It’s been a few years since I read the book. What did they change at the end?

@Twospaniels

They cut out the car chase scene and mud pit deaths and replaced it with Ashley shooting Irish in the chest with a harpoon gun, then exchanged words with Simms and tried to stab him and they found Michael in freezer
LadyEloise · 13/06/2021 18:12

I watched it and thought it was very good.
Yes disbelief had to be suspended, but that's with most tv series now anyway.
I haven't read the books but will soon.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/07/2021 12:48

Anyone know when next book /episode is

AngryMuppet · 07/07/2021 23:36

I wondered if anyone knew, Blondes! Surely it should be soon-ish?

I did see it, but found it v convoluted/confusing...did she somehow rig up the car crash then? To make sure he couldn't be rescued? Was it her intention to get him to pull the oxygen tube out or was she just looking for a patsy if the police came calling after her H's "mysterious death"?

not to sound like a black widow myself but did anyone else think killing the kid and then moving the husband was all far too convoluted? Surely it'd just have been easier to go on holiday with him, conspire with your criminal partner to make it look like a suicide brought on by survivor's guilt, and go off and enjoy your millions?

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/07/2021 11:25

Hope so @AngryMuppet

I enjoyed. Know some didnt

But as I be always said , I’m easily pleased with tv stuff

User7493268965 · 24/04/2022 16:33

I couldn't remember the first one then see I was on the thread so must have done and then remembered the bit with the coffin, it was quite good if I recall, though I haven't read the books

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/04/2022 17:23
