Who’s looking forward to this?
Grace is a detective. Written by Peter James, there are 15 books in the series I think and I have read them all.
Can’t wait to see this TV adaptation.

I'm enjoying it - I've read all the books and they are sticking pretty closely to the story.

RedRiverShore · 14/03/2021 21:41

I'm also enjoying it, I think it is a complete story tonight, though not sure, the bit in the coffin was a bit horrible though but I am a bit claustrophobic.

LIZS · 14/03/2021 21:52

On +1, enjoying location spotting! JS has run the same stretch of prom several times! Feels a like Broadchurch.

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 14/03/2021 21:59

That was very good - I'm looking forward to the next one. No spoilers, but the book it's based on, (Looking Good Dead), is an excellent read.

FourteenthDoctor · 14/03/2021 21:59

I loved it!

Candleabra · 14/03/2021 22:10

That was awful. Love John simm usually but no idea what's going on with his accent. Found it really annoying.

dalrympy · 14/03/2021 22:12

The locations are great although they've mixed it up a bit - the locations Peter James uses in the books are spot on.

The storyline on this was pretty true to the book, and even in the book it was a bit odd. The rest of the books are better.

That was a complete book so maybe there are only a few episodes in this series? I'm sure they said they were only doing two books?

Xmasbaby11 · 14/03/2021 22:14

I'm just watching it on catch up. I'm not impressed with the acting and it feels quite slow, but ok for Sunday night tv.

Clawdy · 14/03/2021 22:15

A very improbable storyline, but I did enjoy it. I liked the pairing of the two detectives , it worked well. Also found the psychic bit intriguing.

Lordamighty · 14/03/2021 22:21

Really enjoyed it. All the better for not being dragged out over too many episodes.

Annie1290 · 14/03/2021 22:35

Anyone figured out when it's next on?

NoWordForFluffy · 14/03/2021 22:43

@Annie1290

Anyone figured out when it's next on?
Maybe after LoD has completed its series, starting next week. It would definitely affect Grace's viewing figures if they clashed.

I love the books, but John Simm just isn't Roy Grace for me. It was enjoyable though, as lightweight viewing.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 15/03/2021 07:40

iam sure Line of Duty is normally 9 o'clock, so no clashing

RedRiverShore · 15/03/2021 07:52

Maybe it will be like Midsommer Murders which just seems to add a new one every so often, which they can do with complete episodes.

Clawdy · 15/03/2021 08:39

But it will clash, won't it, as Grace is 8 till 10 o clock?
stumbledin · 15/03/2021 14:52

This was total rubbish. I was just bored.

And it now turns out there is a second episode but wont be shown until later inthe year.

Why didn't they just show the last episode of McDonald and Dodds and then the could have shown this rubbish once Line of Duty is over.

Two hours of nothing.

Very very grumpy!

480Widdio · 15/03/2021 14:55

I really enjoyed it,I have read all the Roy Grace books. One of the reasons I love the books is because the locations are where I grew up.Now living in the Midlands and miss Sussex so much.

John Simm was perfect for the part.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2021 19:03

I’m enjoying. Not sure what so many didn’t :(

Also like that it’s local to me

Brighten Crowborough Bromley all mentioned

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2021 22:28

Finished

I loved it. Clever and all tied up in 2hrs

recap grace

@Twospaniels I loved reading the alphabet crimes when I was younger
Not sure if got to z

Have a feeling they didn’t do 26 books

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2021 22:31

Just googled. I was right. She died before writing z

How sad

Ringonrighthand · 15/03/2021 22:38

I liked it but John simm is not how I picture Roy grace at all!

mum2jakie · 16/03/2021 21:51

I enjoyed it. Started a little slowly but second half was really good, with all the twists and turns. I hadn't read the first in the series so wasn't expecting the outcome.

Bit disappointing that they aren't continuing with the series yet! I must be the only person that isn't into Line of Duty...

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2021 23:26

I wasn’t

Didn’t watch it when began years ago

But I discovered it last year in lockdown and loved it !!!!

Twospaniels · 18/03/2021 17:56

Finally managed to watch this.

Having read all the books, I enjoyed this and it was true to the book. Although my husband checked out halfway through as he couldn’t bear the scenes of Michael in the coffin. I think it’s too close to his Mum having been buried ☹️

John Sim is ok as Grace for me. Pretty much as I imagined him.

Very disappointed in this. I'm a great fan of John Sim, so will give it one ore chance, but frankly, my dear - I thought it was sh*te.
