Gail’s character has been a simpleton for a long time, but they brought back proper Gail briefly for that speech, which made me sob my heart out and was probably Corrie at its very best. I felt Sinead’s death was probably the last time we saw a really powerful performance, and that was a year and a half ago

Agree about Jacob, he's totally convincing. Also agree about the last good storyline was Aidens suicide. I don't want to sound pathetic but it really affected me, it was so sad!

I found that storyline really powerful. Don't think I'll ever forget the last look on his face

Thanks guys, glad it wasn't just me. I remember telling my friend at the time and she was like what? It's coronation Street woman give over!
I thought it was heartbreaking and really well thought out.

Aidans story was absolutely heartbreaking. It might be a soap but the story is a real one and happens every day. Corrie did it extremely well, particularly, I thought, because it wasn’t obvious until the actual episode what was happening which reflects my RL experience of suicide. It isn’t always obvious to those around that someone is so ill.

Next we’ll be seeing Gail and Eileen shacking up together

I'm really enjoying Coronation Street at the moment, although I agree some of the story lines are dragging on a bit.
Not a bit interested in the Johnny storyline, but everything else is quite riveting. Maybe the Elaine and Yasmeen relationship will end up like :whatever happened to baby Jane ?

The actor who plays Jacob is excellent I agree. He was in Emmerdale two or three years ago (Tyler or Taylor, I think).

I've gone off Yasmeen, she's just too much. And like we discussed before, Elaine was in a psych hospital the night before Geoff's trial - there's no way she'd make such a quick recovery - another completely daft storyline.

Yes, I think Elaine has ulterior motives too (I didn't until I read Roussette's earlier post, but now I do!) And if she hasn't then she should have - scriptwriters take note!

Yes! It was so very well done. I cried buckets.

I left after aidens death as loads as spoilers on here. I had no idea but apparently I should have been able to guess when he was crying on sofa drinking wine with what he was going to do and so everyone was discussing it when we didn’t know what he had done till the next episode. Totally spoiled it.

@Akire Corrie themselves released Aidan’s death as an official spoiler a week or so before it aired because its obviously a very triggering subject for some people, so it wasn’t meant to have that shock factor and I guess people on here probably thought it was common knowledge or didn’t count as a spoiler because Corrie had shared it. I thought it was very cleverly done the way the signs were subtly built up over time, and I know several people, including myself who’d predicted he was going to take his own life several weeks before it happened.

The bit where Carla asked if she could have a bath (in someone else’s house) completely threw me. Why would she do that? Baffling.

My mom had watched Corrie avidly from the very first episode but stopped when they did the storyline with Phelan blackmailing Anna to have sex with him. I feel like giving up now too. I used to watch Corrie with my mom from around 5 years old and am now 53. I just don't care about any of the characters any more and this latest Simon storyline is pissing me off. Also the appalling Yasmeen shite and yet another completely stupid lesbian pairing. I can see why my mom gave up watching.

I felt like smashing Leanne's face in when she had YET another dig at Toyah about not being a mother. She is toxic, and actually the kind of person you'd go non-contact with.
