I think the non ringhas have all been of a much more consistent standard than usual this year. Only Jackie Smith really looked out of her depth and all of the rest were a sort of middle ground doing between OK and real well depending on whether the dance suited them/ how awful the music/ theme were. Despite that "shock boot" headlines there hasn't been a shock because they are all pretty much of a muchness. I gave the three none ringhas a vote each (not because I hate Maisie but because I never vote ringha) but two dances seemed a step to far for all of them. I think the final will hang on how mean the judges are with the revisit choices.

BigBadVoodooHat · 13/12/2020 10:33

I just don't think her ballroom is always good enough to to choreograph

I don’t rate her choreo at all. I didn’t think the ‘rumba’ was actually much of a rumba; it’s was a slow, romantic dance with some nods towards rumba stylings.

Janette’s always been guilty of that, but it seems to be the general trend for all of the dances this series.

emilybrontescorsett · 13/12/2020 10:50

I agree about Janettes rumba. I'm getting fed up of seeing her wriggling her arse around to cover up Nvwls lack of skill. I'd like them to go but that won't happen as he gets over marked every week by the judges. They treat him like he is about 12 the same as they did with Joe Sugg. They are far harsher with Maisie. Dd is a dancer and she commented on how they mark and judge Maisie harsher than the others. Shirley I found cringe over how much she liked rock music, never once picking Bill up over his incorrect technique the way she would have crucified Maisie.
Anyhow if Ranvir goes, and I really really hope she doesn't because I adore watching Gio dance more than any other dancer, I'll vote for BVB because I like him and Karen.
Jeanette is falling into Orla's slot of the dancer going for the male vote by draping herself over her partner as many times as she can.
No way has Nvwls deserved 10s there weeks running. It's obvious the judges are desperate to keep him in.

IntermittentParps · 13/12/2020 10:52

I think when there’s two dances they always do their second dance in the dance off
They do their highest-scoring dance.

emilybrontescorsett · 13/12/2020 11:02

Well if Ranvir is in the DO I would t object to seeing the move again!

jambeforeclottedcream · 13/12/2020 11:02

I thought that must be the case but that must be a right faff for hair, makeup and costumes if the best dance was the first dance
emilybrontescorsett · 13/12/2020 11:02

Jive not move.

IntermittentParps · 13/12/2020 11:05

jam, I know, but I'm pretty sure that's right... I suppose they're all used to quick changes.

SoupDragon · 13/12/2020 11:06

The problem is that you can't judge the ringers on the same basis as the novice dancers. There has to be some kind of difference due to expectation.

Annasgirl · 13/12/2020 11:16

I would love to see a final with Bill, Jamie and Ranvir - imagine a final without Ringers!!!!

I get annoyed at the judges going for the "youth vote" by giving 10s to the likes of Maisie and HRVY.

Skipsurvey · 13/12/2020 11:22

are Maisie and HYRV actually ringers?

AGnu · 13/12/2020 11:26

@Maireas

Right, AGnu. You go on one of those tv shows where you can't cook/manage the kids/your house is a tip etc and are saved by Nick Knowles, Ainsley Harriot or whoever. You are so charming, quirky and brave that you get on Gogglebox. You are so funny and endearing that they sign you up for SCD. Job done. Couple's Choice with Gio wearing silver chamois leather hotpants (him), pink chiffon (you).
Now that sounds like a plan. My house is indeed a mess, I have an older child who's getting towards pre-teen years & can already flounce out of the room in the most dramatic way & a pre-schooler who has to have everything her way. Plus, I'm really good at shouting at the TV. This is definitely my path to fame! I shall invest in a few cute pets, maybe something unusual that I can bring into training with me. Oh, I know, I'll make friends with someone from the local zoo who will coincidentally be hand-rearing a baby chimp. Said chimp will be old enough to wander around a bit being adorable & will let me hold it while waltzing. The votes will come rolling in!

I voted 2 for Ranvir & 1 for BVB. I hated him on MiC & have been waiting for him to start seeming petulant & privileged but he totally won me over with the Charleston-esque quickstep. I love a country boy nearly as much as a sailor... Grin

@IntermittentParps

It doesn't need to be a quick change ~ they need to do a quick change mid-show, but after the show they've loads of time between the votes being counted, and everything set up for the dance off, etc., In that time they can film the judges' debrief, film the musical guest (if it's not a pre-record), so basically they've got as long as they like to get ready.

This week Maisie will need to get into her CC stuff (not much of a change needed, really. Just a bit of hair tweaking and sticking a pair of jeans on) if she chooses to do that as her higher scorer (though her VW was far, far better, IMO), Harvey's highest score was his second dance anyway, Jamie scored the same for both dances so could choose either one (though if I was him I'd go for the salsa), and Bill & Ranvir would both need to change. But that's all easily doable for a backstage team that are used to getting people ready quickly.

SoupDragon · 13/12/2020 11:33

@Skipsurvey

are Maisie and HYRV actually ringers?
No, they've never danced before in their lives. 😂
Bluffinwithmymuffin · 13/12/2020 11:36

Penguin
I’m also a complete Jamie convert (and admit to liking Nvwls too).
Like Ranvir but, yes, don’t like that part of the narrative; she’s also mentioned several times that she’s 43, which is still pretty young from where I’m sitting. Debbie McGee was 59 fgs- and I know she had previous dance experience... but still, 59!!

Maireas · 13/12/2020 12:04

That's a good plan, AGnu, just remember to cry when your mumsnet Strictly friends come on screen and send you love.

Skipsurvey · 13/12/2020 12:07

someone explain, briefly how Harvy and maise are ringers

pretty please

Maireas · 13/12/2020 12:10

Maisie is 19 and spent most of her life on stage/camera. She studied Musical Theatre at college. She has released two singles with accompanying dance vt.
Hrvy is a singer and similarly learned dance for the vts/stage productions.

Skipsurvey · 13/12/2020 12:15

thank you @Maireas

Elderflower14 · 13/12/2020 12:41

Does anyone else listen to Good Morning Sunday on Radio 2?
I think Rev Kate might be angling for SCD next year... Dancing round the studio all the time and having Sequin Sunday today! 😁

Horehound · 13/12/2020 12:42

Right I missed most of it last night so watching again.

Just watched Jamie's salsa...I actually really liked it!

jambeforeclottedcream · 13/12/2020 12:44

@BigBadVoodooHat

When you put it like that it seems a lot simpler than what I had in my mind Xmas GrinXmas GrinXmas Grin

ppeatfruit · 13/12/2020 12:51

Thanks Polka

Has anyone mentioned how NICE Tess looked last night in a COLOUR WITH SHOULDERS!!!!! on her dress. I liked her updo too !!!!!

She looked better than Claude which is saying something!!

Shame it was spoiled by her mentioning that the audience needed the toilet!!!! ALL THE TIME !!!!

Yes, I thought exactly that when I saw her on the Friday panel last year.
