Is it just me or is she really fake?

OK, just watched the latest one and in two shots she didn't have the eyeliner on and looks 10 years younger.
I can see a new Sarah/Dicken Beeny series coming up after the house is built.

DecentHour · 17/12/2020 21:28

The rabbit in a tiny cage bothers me. I like SB but feel she makes TV shows as she needs the money rather than becasue her heart is in it these days. I loved Property Ladder, it actually inspired me to do up a shithole house.

Her attitude to boys and reading on Twitter bothers me a bit too though. Regularly asking for book recommendations for 'reluctant readers' ... surely the time to ask was when they were 6 not teenagers.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 18/12/2020 20:38

Maybe when they were six they weren't reluctant readers. 🤷‍♀️

MariaTia · 22/12/2020 22:28

I've watched some of it but feel uncomfortable about how much the kids are in the show tbh. They haven't exactly chosen any of it and it feels like they're having to portray a 'perfect life' which seems quite strange given the ages of the older ones, who seem to be doing the sorts of things little ones might like.

I like watching Beeny, but agree there's too little on the house itself and too much on country stuff, plus they seem to get new pets every week - how will they have the time to look after them all

Olinguito · 23/12/2020 16:40

I don't know why I keep watching this as I find Sarah and her husband so annoying. I started watching to see the house being built. The episodes of playing at country-living, and the never-ending spending on frivolities seems really out of touch with the reality for many people at the moment. They both come across to me as spoilt, smug and childish. I also can't bear Sarah's stupid gurning.

cactusisblooming · 24/12/2020 18:17

In the most recent episode the children's reactions/responses seem really scripted. I cannot see my teen son getting remotely excited at the prospect of making elderflower cordial, let alone making it a family activity with proclamations of how fun it was.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 29/12/2020 00:27

There was a sound bite at the ad on Property Ladder that sounded like an electronic 'oh ye-ah!' One day DH sang 'smug bi-itch!' to it and we still call her that now

Happens to be her initials too!

Glad we aren't the only ones that think that way

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 29/12/2020 00:29

Also anyone else noticed she appears to be ripping off all the local business ideas? People will go to her because of her name rather than the honey/truffles/glamping/ cider she appears to be interested in making.

Porridgeoat · 29/12/2020 01:17

I don’t mind her. Nice enough family. I do find the programme too slow. Painfully slow

sparklystarshinebright · 29/12/2020 01:32

I like Sarah Beeny, imagine building your own house exactly how you want it. I'm. Not keen on the style of the house, I would go for something more rustic, farmhouse style that would blend in with the countryside more, but each to their own. She's a business woman, good luck to her. Frustrating it's so slow, would like to see more details of the house, rooms, layout, what materials are being used, just in case I win the lottery and I can one day build my own house!

Porridgeoat · 29/12/2020 04:38

She’s a very clever woman. I can only dream of building my own house

madcatladyforever · 29/12/2020 13:18

I found it quite tedious on the whole, the new place isn't far from where I live now, it's in Bruton in Somerset or thereabouts. I moved to Somerset last year for work.
All the London set move to either Bruton or Frome, why Frome I do not know, it is the pits of the earth. Bruton is ok.
Planning is so lax in Somerset you could build a concrete Taj Mahal if you've got enough money.

madcatladyforever · 29/12/2020 13:19

I would have preferred to just see the house build, the rest of it was very dull.

barebetty · 29/12/2020 17:31

Yes I agree with the local business people potentially being 'used'. I wonder how much cheese/honey/glamming custom there is to go around Hmm

WonderingFree · 29/12/2020 20:23

I’m watching this now but I don’t know why - it’s so boring they are trying chilli jam in a shop. SB is an inspiration but I am not not interested in this.
‘If we want to make chilli jam what type of chilli should we have’. Dull. I’m switching off.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 29/12/2020 20:27

"We got bees. Now we have honey". Riveting.

lemonsandlimes123 · 29/12/2020 20:57

WTF are the wooden shed extensions in aid of!

loobylou10 · 29/12/2020 20:58

They don't look right so they? Really jar with the stone IMO.

loobylou10 · 29/12/2020 20:58

Do they I mean!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 29/12/2020 21:13

What a monstrosity. Looks so random plonked in the middle of a field.

ThePoetsWife · 29/12/2020 21:14

Who thinks the house looks great? I hate it - it doesn't go with its surroundings, and the wooden bits are just Confused

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 29/12/2020 21:20

And if they want a stately home, why not buy a stately home? Building that feels so wasteful.

Spittingchestnuts · 29/12/2020 21:23

I admire SB (anyone who manages 4 DC and a career is worthy of admiration in my view) but that house is a faux period monstrosity! It doesn't fit in with the landscape at all. How the heck did it get planning permission? That field was so beautiful before they built on it!

Ghislainedefeligonde · 29/12/2020 22:35

I only discovered this programme tonight and can’t believe what an ugly house they have built! I really like SB but not sure about this tbh. Might watch some of the earlier episodes to see what it’s like.
What an ostentatious house though - and uPVC windows? The house I live in has windows 120 years old and they are still fine. Wooden windows will last a lot longer than uPVC and much better for the environment. I’m hoping they have at least included renewables to heat the house eg ground source pump and solar panels would provide all your heating and hot water from a completely renewable source

Notjustanymum · 29/12/2020 23:31

Just watched this on recording. Agree it’s a bit slow and don’t believe she is as dim as she appears to be trying to be.
Was worried about the air gap between the stone on the front of the house and the insulation capsules with concrete inside, though - couldn’t that be a fire risk?
I think it could be more interesting but figure they are probably having to cope with limitations of Covid as PP’s have mentioned...
I’d like to see the inside of the house when it’s finished!
