Is it just me or is she really fake?

No they haven't started building yet. They haven't got the permission yet.
Sarah's Mum died when she was 10. Sad
Her boys seem happy with their life in the country.
Lovely to see the two families get on so well. I don't think they mentioned Sarah's brother married Graham's sister last night, just said that they had followed them down from London to live. She joked they stalked them.
In a world gone mad it's a nice little escapist watch.

I like it. I think it was filmed a couple of years ago though as that is when she had her London house for sale? Or maybe last summer when they sold Rise Hall, from googling it. Pre-Covid. I'd love to give my kids that upbringing and with 4 boys, a massive house and a buggy and animals they aren't going to get bored too quickly. Very lucky family.

Sarah’s brother is called Diccon, not Dicken
He is married to Graham’s sister, ie, brother and sister married brother and sister. Not common, but not unknown.

Ep 1 Sarah said they had moved there away from everyone and they knew no-one.
Ep 2 she said her brother lived nearby and they had more or less followed them
🤷🏼‍♀️

On the whole I’m enjoying it and they seem like a close family. I’d rather watch them than some other families on TV who are arguing and shouting all the time.

Not particular my cup of tea, but sad when someone is successfully life and done well for themselves through building businesses and career we have to despise them for having more than us .

I gave it a swerve this week after seeing week 1. Have they started building the house yet? That’s the only bit I was interested in.

That sums up my position too.

Well, i love watching it- and i think the boys are a credit to them both . so she's a bit posh- so fucking what? she's carved out her own success and seems really down to earth. i love the escapism of it and, yes, i like to imagine how i would do it on slightly smaller reserves! methinks jealousy's at play.

I like her. She's never pretended she lived anywhere other than London. I think she's done incredibly well - renovating is such a male dominated area and she can and does get her hands dirty and knows how to do stuff herself, not just pay someone else to do it.
And while I don't like the style of her new house I'm enjoying the program.

I like Sarah. A woman working in a male industry and making a huge success. What's not to like?

I'm surprised anyone takes these shows seriously. They have to invent drama otherwise it'll be a boring show. We all know she's a multimillionaire so chances are she'll emerge from whatever fake frame on the show unscathed. That's no reason not to like her

I like her. She seems down to earth as much as you can be with her money. The couple actually seem to like each other and they have worked hard for what they have. The boys seem "normal" too.

I can see why people are frustrated that the programme has not yet shown the build but I guess it's about the whole move not just the house.

The bit about not knowing anyone in the area and not having a back up plan are a bit of made up drama that I don't think they needed to add but I did enjoy both episodes.

Oh, I'm glad it annoyed other people. I watched 30 mins of it this week and had to turn off.
More money than sense.

Anyone remember the newly built manor house in the film 'hot fuzz' that none of the locals liked but the owner got it through planning because of who he knew, kind of reminds me of the house Sarah is planning on building.

But why this programme? She was in my sisters year at school.

Odiham... Hampshire, so hardly a massive adventure to move BACK to the countryside.

I know, I did it. London, South America, Africa and now back where I grew up

Sis too. London, NY, and back and to country

I'd like it if Kevin McCloud popped up and started doing some wise pieces to camera, like he does.

The (faux?) ditziness is annoying me a bit. And the tinkly laughs. She has spent years making a living from knowing what she is doing and advising other people, and now there is all this pretend naivity. Weird.

I watched the first one and found her so intensely irritating that I will watch no more. They have a lovely home in a lovely place with pots of money and they want to take up more agricultural land with an unnecessary building. What gives them the right?

And all that tinkering with cheese-making and so on - pathetic!

I'm not sure how the 'mansion' is not going to come across as nouveau and 'footballers wives'. Surprised she's aiming for something quite so ostentatious and tasteless.

Beeny used to live locally to me. I had a couple of not-positive interactions and don't know anyone with any positive feedback TBH. She thought she was a cut above and made no time for anyone.

I know her a bit (not well) and like her, she's got her head screwed on and knows her stuff. Which is why the faux ditziness is so irritating. The bits where she claims to have no plan b? Bollocks. But I guess the producers like to up the drama so that's what she's going with.

Definitely Somerset. I am quite enjoying it and might go have a nosey when I go past that way to pick up at school tomorrow. Grin

It is the worst piece of TV production we’ve seen on UK TV in a very long time. DH worked in TV production and he sat there with his chin on the floor.

Just dreadful and the family come across terribly. It’s the sort of TV we usually like but it’s a sack of shit

That's a really good point. A New life in the country, a Grand Design and lovely Sarah Beeny and her apparently lovely family. It should have worked brilliantly, but it's just awful.

That's interesting Megan
I don't know anything about tv - what particular things did you both notice production wise?

2 things I noticed:

  • really annoying voice over, is it a fake accent
  • close ups of Sarah's face show her foundation or different skin colours ? Quite weird.
