As I understand it, and I may be wrong..new build so no vat to pay. Huge salary as tv presenter, using home as location so massive tax breaks. And we all get to watch her. Fun!

i really like thehouse and i didnt expect to- yes, even the wooden add-ons.
trouble is as a public figure you're expected to demonstrate such piety these days- you can't just do somethin because you like the idea or you're feeling frivolous. we all sit in judgement:- that's wasteful/that's not eco etc etc which it's easy when you're not as successful!!
so they have to pay lip service to current concerns- we've planted 1000 trees- and it comes off a little insincere.
but i'm loving watching the build, the family and the pure escapism of it all- good for them!

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 exactly what I thought, the "let's start a cider/cheese/honey/alpaca/chilli business" as a cottage sideline must have the locals who rely on these industries frothing at the mouth.

when the children walked up the drive and said how lucky they were I thought yes you are!! I like the house and it's such a great area. I would love to move to Bruton but can't convince DH even though ds is at school there.

I love the faux Georgian (?) mansion but what's with the wooden "huts" at the sides which look like they were there for the builders as an office/ eating area and were left behind by accident.
They ruin the symmetry.
I love Georgian symmetry.

I felt we were owed an explanation as to what the wooden huts were, they certainly were not in the plans and I assume they are temporary as they look so odd and out of keeping with the property.

Acorn it's not about the children per se, but there are lots of twee family moments where they are building together or partaking in cheese/elderflower cordial making. You know, the sort of activities that most teen boys are up to of a weekend.

I really enjoyed it. Even the kids and trying out all the different aspects to living in the country.

I found the "non house"' things interesting.
Getting the honey, the alpacas, foraging etc.
I really want to know are those wooden huts still there or were they removed ?
Anyone on here who lives locally who knows ?
I thought we'd get a glimpse of the finished house- interiors and all.

Loads of people like her , move to the country , buy a cockerpoo ( mongrel) start watching countryfile and shop at waitrose and think they are country people , not a clue about what really goes on

Sarah has answered questions about the wooden huts on Twitter - apparently they're clad in wet larch which uses less energy if it dries naturally and is more affordable than stone, but it can’t be treated until spring/summer. It seems one of them is a car port.

Spending all that money on natural stone but then scrimping on the car port and erecting a horrific wooden structure? Doesn't make any sense at all. Maybe they should have sold some of their honey for more natural stone

Yes I hope we get an inside view. Generally speaking I loved their London home, with the exception of Graham's 'royal' toilet that he decorated with permanent marker. They clearly have form for scrimping on the details.
