Is it just me or is she really fake?

OP posts:
MrsMiaWallis · 10/12/2020 21:38

Her boys seem sweet. All four at Millfield must be costing 100k a year.

beela · 10/12/2020 21:45

I just don't get it Confused

Caelano · 11/12/2020 00:23

At least at Millfield the boys will be mixing with similar types so hopefully won’t get the piss taken out of them mercilessly for being paraded on telly playing let’s pretend we’re farmers.

I don’t get how SB could in any way think it’s a good idea . Building a fuck off great mansion in the middle of the countryside is a terrible idea. Making it into a smugfest tv serial is a terrible idea. I can only imagine she’s totally lost perspective and honestly cannot see how it all comes across

YorkshireGirl2016 · 11/12/2020 04:03

Have you noticed the boys wearing nail varnish? Not that there's a problem with it. Didn't know if it was my eye sight Smile

Catsup · 11/12/2020 04:39

I used to really rate her years ago and viewed her as a strong, informed and watchable woman. I now find her a bit grating if I'm totally honest (not that it'd impact on her one bit 😂). I don't know if it's because I personally view her as stepping away from her original presenting style in how she comes across? Or if she just now gets on my wick because I view her as not evolving with how time has moved on?... I mean that as in I loved Friends, SATC, Location Location Location, Grand Designs when they were all 'of their time', but now they just seem a bit 'meh!'.

Frenchdressing · 11/12/2020 05:01

Have to admit I’m watching but complaining all the way through 😆

Caelano · 11/12/2020 08:46

Catsup I think that’s a lot to do with it. Being a strong, hard working woman is one thing but this has crossed over into a self absorbed and ostentatious display which sits very uncomfortably. It’s just all kinds of wrong in 2020. Of course the pandemic has highlighted even more how out of touch it is but it’s not just that. Environmental concerns have been high on the agenda for years. Honestly when I saw all those gallons of concrete being poured it just made me think ‘whaaaat?’ Plus all the playing at farming and country pursuits, like these are something you can dip into with a tinkly little laugh.
Her children may very well be nice kids but it’s pretty unfair to drag them onto tv like this ... I bet they haven’t really had much choice in any meaningful way.
It’s a shame because I started watching hoping it would be an informative programme about building a house which is sympathetic to its surroundings. I was assuming that, given we’re living in the 21st century, eco concerns would be high on the agenda. Instead it’s a self indulgent display of a family playing at country living, complete with faux naivety and ridiculous ‘oops what if it all goes wrong?’ Erm... if it all goes tits up She could use a million or so to buy a beautiful property in Somerset which is in keeping with its surroundings. I’m sure they’d still have enough to send the boys to private school if they don’t want them mixing with the riff raff of a local comprehensive.

cheesecrack · 11/12/2020 18:31

I'm just catching up now. I don't like the fact that Graham says No to more pets (Bantams) then Sarah over rules him.

It's sending weird messages about pet ownership and decision making.

I've kept hens before and they are great but they do still need looking after. It shouldn't just be on a whim.

Joynot · 11/12/2020 18:36

I liked this episode
I like Graham’s grin when he finished the bathroom, which was fab, but they didn’t explain how it was plumbed in.
And he was very emotional about the ring.

And those complaining about the concrete, what else do you make foundations with? Wattle and daub?
I recognised the friend Alex, she was a counsellor of mine.

Caelano · 11/12/2020 20:20

Google environmentally friendly building materials. There really are plenty of alternatives to pouring tons of concrete into the ground and building a fuck off big mansion in the middle of fields.

Re the hens... I wasn’t sure if it was some weird dynamic whereby she just overrules him because she’s obsessed with getting her own way, or whether she’s playing it up for the camera. Either way, the family’s attitude towards animals ..Hmm

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 11/12/2020 20:26

I think these polystyrene block houses are eco friendly aren't they?

MrsMiaWallis · 11/12/2020 22:38

The ring was a complete set up.

Joynot · 11/12/2020 22:41

Oh so cynical!

MrsMiaWallis · 11/12/2020 22:42

Oh come on. It was blindingly obvious

confusednortherner · 11/12/2020 22:53

@DobbyTheHouseElk

The voiceover man is so dire. He can’t decide what accent to go for, normal RP, fake West Country or American/Irish.
Dh is enjoying programme but that voice over is driving me crazy!!
AlwaysLatte · 11/12/2020 23:06

I like the show, and I like her.

AlwaysLatte · 11/12/2020 23:12

Yes, the kid running into the lake with the phone in his pocket was very telling and summed up my problem with the programme. Most of us would be furious at the carelessness, upset at the waste, worried about having to find the money for a new one (because when you live in the middle of nowhere particularly, it's a good idea for kids to have phones.) She just thought it was hilarious.
It was probably a waterproof phone. My son got his wet once and I didn't get cross, just spent the energy drying it instead and it was fine.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 12/12/2020 10:13

I thought the ring was real. He looked really emotional.

Caelano · 12/12/2020 10:38

If the lost ring was genuine then it’s unfortunate because it looked as set-up as most of the other ‘oopsie’ moments. I didn’t think he looked that upset when he was doing the nervous little smile and telling the camera ‘ooh I haven’t told my mum yet.’

cactusisblooming · 16/12/2020 18:21

I tuned in and couldn't believe how she has aged not that that is in any way relevant.

The horsebox bathroom was ridiculous, what guests are going to want a bathroom with one side completely exposed?

I think they were mad to leave their gorgeous house in London. The way she was banging on about wanting the boys to have space in a family home would make anyone think they had been been living in a one bed flat in a high rise.

silverfonze · 16/12/2020 22:08

What do you mean about her ageing ?

I think it's the dark eye make up- v early 2000s.

She has a great figure

Never had a good dress sense

Mum2jenny · 16/12/2020 22:11

I like the program, but I think they were nuts doing it. But I’d do similar if I had the chance and the money!!!

CoolShoeshine · 16/12/2020 22:18

Gosh I’d hate you to see how much I’ve aged! I think she looks fab, hair that doesn’t need styling, cheekbones, clear skin, no extra chins.

deste · 16/12/2020 22:36

I love this programme and her kids seem lovely, looking forward to the next one.

MrsMiaWallis · 16/12/2020 22:52

I think she looks great and her kids seem lovely, but the programme is really silly and tonight's was so boring.
