Is it just me or is she really fake?

OP posts:

Thank you grownags.

gingerperil · 12/11/2020 16:17

Only watched a little bit did anyone else think the house they were designing looked hideous too?! Not seen the other project they did but did not like the plans.

longwayoff · 12/11/2020 16:35

I'm a bit shocked that SB seems to be showing symptoms of 'the little woman' syndrome. I've heard such views about nurses before, from bitter male doctors, no one else. Really shameful.

LadyEloise · 12/11/2020 17:16

Her husband said he grew up in Tipperary Ireland. He hadn't a trace of an Irish accent so must be proper posh ( Anglo Irish).Smile
I worried that the children had no life jackets ( I worry too much Smile ) and was surprised re the phone. Glad I'm not the only one.

I felt it was quite intrusive for the children- particularly the older one.

I'll continue to watch.
I'm sure the house will be lovely.
Though I hated the carpet on the beautiful staircase in Rise Hall.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 12/11/2020 17:20

@grownags

She said on Twitter that nurses really do not need academic qualifications. On the job training would be ample as they don't need to be able to do anything complex for example calculations as doctors do all that for them. All they need is empathy. Even when advanced nurse practitioners and nurse educators tried to explain to her why she was mistaken she refused to back down. I'm sure all the nursing staff managing the ventilated patients and nutrition etc of patients in ICU can barely add 2+2 together. Just so patronising and arrogant
She’s clearly as dumb as a rock on that score. All of the research bares out that patients are safer when nurses have degree level training.
JonHammIsMyJamm · 12/11/2020 17:21

*apologies, BEARS out Blush

Twospaniels · 12/11/2020 20:39

They sold Rise Hall to a events company, so no doubt made a killing on that enough to fund this new build.

A big landowner near where I live built a ‘stately home’ on his farmland. I don’t know how he got the permission for it. It literally is a great big pile in the middle of a field.

laudemio · 12/11/2020 21:02

She sold rise hall.

Gregariousfox · 12/11/2020 21:07

I think Sarah Beeney is lovely. I don't see some of your problems with her. If you don't like her, why on earth are you watching it, as her shows follow similar formats?

I should imagine they commissioned the show ages ago, well before Covid.

gettingolderbutcooler · 12/11/2020 21:14

@TheSpottedZebra

Here you go, Ineedabiscuit Biscuit

A lovely Jammy Dodger for you to nibble at delicately whilst you complete your misogyny bingo card.

I believe she was referring specifically to the misogyny of others- I'm not sure how you make that out to be her 😂
Wowzel · 12/11/2020 21:18

The nurse stuff on twitter has really put me off her. What does she know about nursing? Absolutely fuck all!

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 12/11/2020 21:23

@TheSpottedZebra

So she grew up like the Good Life, but doesn't k ow what barbed wire is called?

Itchy chin, Sarah Beeney, ITCHY CHIN!

rslsys · 12/11/2020 21:43

Looks like they have been faffing about with planning since 2015.

slothtrot · 13/11/2020 10:27

Didn't t they run out of money and have to sell rise hall ?

WotWouldCJDo · 13/11/2020 11:35

Rise Hall is in the East Riding, not the North.

I love Beeny. I loved Property Ladder in the 00s and still have a couple of her books, but this programme was very, very difficult to enjoy. It was wrong in so many ways. How will I survive in the countryside when I don't even know what barr-ed wire is, despite growing up in the countryside and being a successful property developer ha ha! Look! I'm keeping a wild rabbit in a prison, ha ha!

As someone who was actually, properly lambing at 15 I struggled to watch him taking up valuable time for the glory bits and then scampering off for an Easter egg hunt before the gory bits. Of course, it may have been the editing and the oldest lad was actually putting in all-nighters.

longwayoff · 13/11/2020 11:38

12 orphan lambs. I suspect they didn't hang around for all of it.

mrsbyers · 13/11/2020 11:40

It irritated me when she was referred to as Britain’s favourite property expert or similar - how arrogant considering she’s not exactly on mainstream tv a lot til this ?

WotWouldCJDo · 13/11/2020 11:41

Hmm, re-reading my post it's tricky to comment on this with sounding very, very bitter isn't it Sad

JonHammIsMyJamm · 13/11/2020 13:50

Apols for getting my Rise Hall/Yorks geog out of whack.
LilacPebbles · 13/11/2020 14:01

Give me Dick and Angel any day.

WotWouldCJDo · 13/11/2020 15:15

It's ok, it's just something we're very chippy about. Somebody on Twitter referred to it being in H*. We've had to send out a hit squad.

Cloud21 · 13/11/2020 15:51

Google says they got £1.4m for Rise Hall (Paid £450k ish) and are now between Frome & Yeovil.

Achieved £3.5m for their London pad apparently.

PompomDahlia · 13/11/2020 15:58

@gingerperil no, I thought it looked a bit like a romantic teenager's idea of a stately home and not very fitting for the setting. I've seen some beautiful luxurious farmhouse conversions that work well. That said, I suppose if you have that much money to build your own place then why not really go for it, especially if it's out of sight of neighbours

wowfudge · 13/11/2020 16:09

If she's such an expert, how come her estate agency failed?

Half of these property programmes are the emperor's new clothes: the number of people who build their dream home on Grand Designs then sell it and not because they have debts to cover; the people on A Place in the Sun who are clearly just on a jolly with no intention of buying; and Escape to the Country where I don't think I have ever seen anyone buy one of the places they've been shown.

Sarah Beeny is very skilled at self-promotion as are Angel and Dick Strawbridge.

Ratatcat · 13/11/2020 20:57

Cloud21 Oh I was trying to find how much she got for rise hall. I suspected the London place would be more than the stately home as it looked massive.

I agree with others than it all got a bit much. I didn’t need to see her doing Easter egg hunts abs being smug but I was quite interested in the process of building the house. I think they’ve pitched it wrong for the current climate.
