New ’un.

Whose turn on the storyline merry-go-round will it be this week?

OP posts:
DipSwimSwoosh · 01/12/2020 23:28

Really? An 18 year old who was brought up in care, had a baby aged 13, dad was illiterate, poor family, few friends, not very bright, has moved around the country a bit, brother is Gary. Of course she is vulnerable. Men like Ray do prey on girls like Faye, who fear authority, and crave a stable job and a bit of status.

Smallsteps88 · 01/12/2020 23:34

She’s definitely vulnerable. Being in care creates deep seated emotional deficiencies (there’s a better word but I can’t think of it! Confused) in a way Faye probably doesn’t even realise yet. She’s more likely to have under age sex ✔️ to seek out inappropriate male partners like older men ✔️ And is vulnerable to being manipulated and groomed ✔️

DipSwimSwoosh · 01/12/2020 23:38

Early childhood trauma

Smallsteps88 · 01/12/2020 23:40

That’s it- early childhood trauma. Creates all sorts of emotional and psychological issues even in children who are adopted very young. I think people don’t realise the true extent of the damage being separated from birth mothers causes.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/12/2020 23:46

The way that Roxy person just bought Sally and Tim’s house.

No solicitors no Conveyances no surveys no nothing. Try and get a bit real corrie FFS.

It’s totally ridiculous. They really are mugging us off with this crap.
Akire · 01/12/2020 23:50

I think every child on the street had had multiple severe childhood trauma. Apart from Amy there isn’t a child who lives with both parents and hasn’t had a parent die.

The baby being adopted was difficult but she dealt with it quite well. Seems settled and grown up and not anxious or mental health issues. Isn’t acting out, doesn’t do drugs or drink. Lives with secure parents and is loved. If she’s doomed to make shit choices forever more it’s going be bloody depressing. When you look at Abbie who had rubbish childhood no security no one care for her, no support, not in a decent home. Criminal record, abusive partner, Yes can see how She ended up ins sink estate and a drug addict. But Faye seems to have a lot going for her

Akire · 01/12/2020 23:56

She’s not someone’s I would see working in a bar and think I can totally get away with this without knowing much about her. Obviously I don’t have the creep abusive radar that can zoom in and see victims

Clawdy · 02/12/2020 08:42

I don't think the current script writers and story planners have the empathy to think of Faye's past and see her as vulnerable. They just wanted a rather shocking scene. I can imagine how gutted the two actors must have felt when they got their scripts.

Totally agree. I don’t think there was any more thought to this storyline than “how do we get the outcome we want?” Ie: ray getting Faye to do his dirty work with sally and Tim. There’s no way her background was even a consideration.

I don't think Faye is from a poor family. The Metcalfes are hardly rich but Sally has a half share in Street Cars and they have the nicest house on the street. Faye has friends on the street. She gets on well with the goth girl, has always been very close to Craig and there's always Asha and Amy.
MsMiaWallace · 02/12/2020 09:58

Faye is very vulnerable!
She clearly doesn't have the level or maturity yet.
Didn't think she'd succumb so quickly to Ray though.

JamieLeeCurtains · 02/12/2020 10:10

Well it's about the scriptwriters' skills really, given that Faye isnt , you know, actually real 😱

Thesearmsofmine · 02/12/2020 10:19

I think along with reasons above, Faye is also only 18 and Ray is older, wealthier, charming and more glamorous then any other man she knows and it was a weird situation to be in.
If Ray was a spotty 18 year old boy from college then she wouldn’t have done it.

Honeyroar · 02/12/2020 10:34

What happened with Ray and Abbie? Didn’t she find out something about him and his sleazy past? Wasn’t Bethany/Alyia involved? My memory is so bad.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 02/12/2020 11:19

I think he groped Michelle, and then Alya took a job with him and didn’t believe Michelle. Then he tried it with Alya too. And then he tried it with Bethany too, who hadn’t believed Alya.

Then Abi and Ray had a thing, but Bethany told her what has happened. Abi tracked down a lot of women who’d worked for Ray and they all turned up at some big event and told everyone he was a perv.

And then she set fire to his car.

Oh Sad Grin
JamieLeeCurtains · 02/12/2020 13:47

@Ahorsecalledseptember, do you remember "Free The Wetherfield One!" (Deidre) in the tabloids?!

Those were the good old days when the skillful writing, plotting and direction had us all suspending disbelief and investing in Corrie as a kind of national pastime.

Pebbledashery · 02/12/2020 14:05

Lol I'm sure buying a house takes months 😂

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 02/12/2020 14:07

Ray must have dangly old bollocks because I actually thought that the other night when I watched it, I've just spat me tea out reading that other people said the same! Like a couple of walnuts in a sock!

Pebbledashery · 02/12/2020 14:14

@EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide 😂😂😂 as if he wasn't repulsive enough

Cameron2012 · 02/12/2020 18:23

@Smallsteps88

I think Bruce Jones has alcohol issues IRL.
He had the terrible misfortune to discover one of the Yorkshire Rippers victims and had to go through the trauma of being treated as a suspect.
