New ’un.

Whose turn on the storyline merry-go-round will it be this week?

OP posts:

@TellingBone
The reason the German hospital said they thought they could help in the first place was because Leanne lied to them on the phone about Oliver’s condition making it sound less worse than it was!
Then when they got the full situation from the hospital, they realised they couldn’t help

eddiemairswife · 24/11/2020 18:49

I'm assuming he will die soon, and there will be the funeral. It seems that it takes about 4 weeks to arrange a funeral, so this will be carrying on over Christmas. What a jolly time this will be!!

woodhill · 24/11/2020 19:06

How is Leanne able to keep financing these appeals.

Even if Oliver could be saved, what sort of quality of life would he have,

Right thanks @Fiddlersgreen.

So, that being the case, even more so it doesn't make sense that Leanne would be raging at the NHS when the clinic changed their minds.

And to let Steve fly off to try to change their minds when she knew she'd given them the original duff info? Meh.

JamieLeeCurtains · 24/11/2020 20:18

Yes, I remember the episode where Leanne lied to the German clinic and Steve was perfectly aware of this, and I thought then that the scriptwriters were going down a very peculiar road with it all.

It might have been credible as a psychological study of an inwardly dependent family reacting to what they view as authoritarian interference; but obviously Leanne and Steve and Nick and Tracey et al are not that, far from it, and as pp have said it's just a muddle of plot holes, misrepresentations, and lack of realism, and does a huge disservice to the distressed parents of very poorly children who 99.9% of the time don't carry on like that.

TikTakTikTak · 24/11/2020 20:22

@JamieLeeCurtains

I think the scriptwriting around Leanne is appalling, *@Roussette*. I do think it's partially the acting as well though that I'm having trouble with. I just don't bother watching the hospital scenes.

Ian Bartholomew (Geoff) on the other hand can read the back of a crisp packet out loud and make it sound menacing or unhinged or emotional, as he wishes.

Agreed! Just caught up, DH was on the sofa and commented that Geoff "wasn't a very good actor". I told him he is wrong, Geoff is the best one! Geoff's grown on me since doing that song and proving he's not actually such a bastard as his character. He's really hateable as an actor so he must be brilliant.
JamieLeeCurtains · 24/11/2020 20:28

Yes, @TikTakTikTak, Geoff grew on me too! Very clever portrayal of a monster in casual clothing.

ajandjjmum · 24/11/2020 21:21

But with that song he turned it round in a positive way.

So......I know that Geoff is vile, but the actor is a decent man. But goodness, he plays a realistic part at time - scary!

Eastie77 · 24/11/2020 21:27

Corrie has been good at producing truly villainous, complex characters over the years. Watching Classic Corrie and the Rita -Alan Bradley storyline sent a shiver down my spine. I forgot he was Jenny's dad!

Charlie was great too, before his untimely demise at Tracy's hands.

VanGoghsDog · 24/11/2020 22:57

So, that being the case, even more so it doesn't make sense that Leanne would be raging at the NHS when the clinic changed their minds.

But she's deranged, she thinks the hospital lied to the clinic.

I'm very glad all the solicitors have said no!

Roussette · 25/11/2020 08:29

Leanne totally misrepresented Oliver's condition to the German clinic, so hardly surprising they can't do anything.

Deadringer · 25/11/2020 09:44

I would love if Geoff could stay after all of this, i don't quite see how it could be managed, but he could be a pariah, with the corrie community rallying around Yasmeen, while he lives in a grotty flat and shots murderous looks at people while being largely ignored. He could even have a health scare, and nobody, not even Tim or Faye, gives a shit.

TellingBone · 25/11/2020 10:32

Yes - the plot hole is that she knows she lied to them but then carried on as though she hadn't.
eggandonion · 25/11/2020 11:20

Don't make me feel sorry for Geoff. It would be good for him to have real heart problems though.
Maybe Leanne believes everything she says? Especially if she says it loudly enough and often enough.

ItStartedWithAKiss241 · 25/11/2020 11:36

I don’t think that Leanne did lie to them intentionally. She thinks that the twitches and blinks Oliver makes mean something- she’s just searching for any glimmer of hope.
At the trial when she read the diary she’d been making that said things like “Oliver blinked while Amy was reading him his favourite story” etc.... she thought these involuntary human movements were Oliver communicating in way?

JamieLeeCurtains · 25/11/2020 12:31

The lies to the German clinic were about the seizures he'd been having and she said he hadn't iirc.

Smallsteps88 · 25/11/2020 12:36

She did lie on the phone to the German doctor because Steve was outraged when he heard her lie. And she knew she was, if not lying, downplaying, the severity of his condition.

Tbh I do think Leanne knows all the little movements are involuntary but she is just desperate to keep him alive. Which is totally understandable.

JamieLeeCurtains · 25/11/2020 12:36

Yeah, I just checked and she deliberately lied about the seizures and Steve was aware.

Spidey66 · 25/11/2020 13:06

Anyone can see Leanne's pain. It's totally understandable-nobody wants to outlive their child. It's not the natural order of things. But her anger and lashing out at everybody, including those most involved (Steve, Nick, Toyah) are just going to turn her support system away. They're already too scared to speak their minds.

And yes, my interpretation was she genuinely lied to the German doctors, making Oliver's condition to be less severe than it was, not just misinterpreting involuntary movements as a response to family members. Even if she knew deep down these movements were involuntary, it's understandable why she hoped otherwise. Though I'm a bit confused as to they either the German doctors and the treating doctors haven't pulled her up on this.

Roussette · 25/11/2020 19:35

Is Steve pregnant?!

He looks like he's got some pregancy body suit on!

Smallsteps88 · 25/11/2020 19:58

I know this isn’t what I’m supposed to be taking from these scenes but I just can’t stop thinking how stunning Imran is. He’s very distracting. I bet he wins every case he represents as no judge can say no to him Grin

Honeyroar · 25/11/2020 20:00

He leaves me cold in Corrie, although someone posted a pic of him sans beard and with his dog, and he looked lovely.

Housewife2010 · 25/11/2020 20:09

Imran is very good looking but Peter is still the one who makes me swoon.

TellingBone · 25/11/2020 20:28

Yeah, I used to have swooneramas over Peter until I found out he's only five feet tall.
Roussette · 25/11/2020 20:39

Ray's voice is soooooooo annoying.
