@stillsomewhatsheldonesque

I’m having that schade

traditionally built

Delightful Smile

Not mine own, alas!

Alexander McCall Smith (No1 Ladies Detective Agency).

But I loved it and it fitted me to a Tee, so I adopted it. Smile

IntermittentParps · 10/11/2020 15:47

Has Caroline had ALL ballroom so far??

Glad Clara has a Latin. She's strong and compact so Charleston might suit her.

Bill performed a little preview of their song on the results show Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/11/2020 15:49

Terrible fire hazard!

LOL!

Every barnet and incendiary device! Grin

WouldBeGood · 10/11/2020 15:53

Hello.. late to the party but enjoying a bit of distils this year.

I liked it better when. It was more regimented and they had the proper dresses.

Not keen on the movie week..

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/11/2020 15:56

Nope, it's actually Caroline's first proper ballroom! She's had AmSm, paso, CC, waltz.

But neither has she had a full on Latin. I know the paso is classed as a Latin but it seems to be more ballroomy than samba/cha cha/rumba/jive that can really expose those celebs that are more suited to ballroom.
IntermittentParps · 10/11/2020 16:12

Yes, I agree with this.

stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 10/11/2020 16:13

There was an incident involving me, 80s hair wings courtesy of a can of Insette hairspray and a Bunsen burner back in the day.

If I’d been in a ballroom gown, I’d have had it.

Just like my wings and my eyebrows.

On the plus side I had a halo briefly. Seriously. Apparently it had a blue tinge. I didn’t see it. I was stinging a bit.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/11/2020 16:14

I'm not going to be able to keep this up all series, but as it stands (ballroom = bold, Latin = italic, other = plain)

Bill: C / Q / P / CC
Caroline: AS / PD / CC / W
Clara: C / VW / T / Ch
HRVY: J / VW / C / S
Jamie: C / AS / Ch / S
JJ: W / PD / F / J
Maisie: S / T / AS / C
Max: T / J / CC / AS
Nicola: Q / CC / J / AS
Ranvir: PD / Q / F / C

So what we can (hopefully) see from this is that Jamie has dodged proper ballroom so far, and Ranvir and JJ are leading on the proper ballroom and Latin dances).

Yes I see what you mean. I think she's had one of the easiest draws in terms of dances you'd expect to suit a person.

Just read week 4.

Strictly - I ain’t impressed.

It may be prime time Saturday neet telly. Don’t be dumbing it down. any more than you already bastard have

Why not have them doing bush tucker trials and be done with it?

Or swear they are going to give it their all warbling Whitney?

I want it how it used to be. Please.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 10/11/2020 16:58

“....the standard of dance has plummeted, the costumes are often dreadful, the music is sh*te (and worse - inappropriate angry) and it just breaks my heart . . .”

Yes. A few (or more) years ago I’d often get chills watching a tango, say, danced to traditional music with great costumes- and brilliantly done because it wasn’t week 2. Now those moments are fewer and further between.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 10/11/2020 17:06

Today 10:00 the80sweregreat

They should have kept Arlene!

Yes, absolutely this! I’ve been saying it for years and never tire of saying it. It’s not too late to bring her back imo. Beg her to come back, in fact.

ScienceSensibility · 10/11/2020 17:20

I think the schedule of dances and music just confirms what most of us have been saying.
It’s just like any old reality show with a loose framework around dance now.

The fucking awful music choices again. Rappers Delight for a Charleston? Jesus H Christ, they really don’t want Clara to stay in, do they?
It baffles me because Aljaz is consistently voted the favourite male professional, and I know I lose interest if he goes out too early. I will never forget that first waltz he did with Abbey Clancy, oh my God that was Strictly heaven.

It also seems that Jamie is being protected from his poor footwork being exposed.

I think theme/costume/makeup need to calm the fuck down now, and let the dancing speak for itself. I don’t hold out much hope though.

IntermittentParps · 10/11/2020 17:21

Science, Clara and Aljaž are dancing their Charleston to Baby Face by Julie Andrews. Rapper's Delight is Bill and Oti.

ScienceSensibility · 10/11/2020 17:22

Hard agree on keeping Arlene. Replacing her with the giggling fool that was Alesha was a clear sign they were dumbing down.

Alesha was a deserved winner of her series, but she just did not have the deep knowledge and experience of dance to give proper critique.

ScienceSensibility · 10/11/2020 17:23

Oh thanks Parps

My apologies to the thread, that will teach me to do a rage read! 😀

unique1986 · 10/11/2020 17:24

Being too nice doesn't suit Craig. Hes entertaining giving more harsh criticism.

the80sweregreat · 10/11/2020 17:24

I love Craig because he really knows dance inside and out and doesn't go for silly gimmicks either! Straight talking. Nice jackets. I'm a Big fan of Craig!

stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 10/11/2020 17:50

Alesha and her Muttley laugh ruined, RUINED, strictly for me.

Yes she danced beautifully but a judge she was not and never should have been.

I would love Arlene back.

She shouldn’t have gone.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 10/11/2020 18:07

“....Alesha was a deserved winner of her series, but she just did not have the deep knowledge and experience of dance to give proper critique.”

“...I would love Arlene back.”

YES YES YES

Maybe we should start a campaign.

the80sweregreat · 10/11/2020 18:13

I bet Arlene would laugh like a drain at being asked to do it again and tell them where to go!
Can we imagine Caroline doing a rhumba? ( might have spelt it wrong)

Maireas · 10/11/2020 18:14

Evening all! Good conversations while I was at work, excellent points made!
However, I do need a warning when you post, SheldonBstard - the comments about Motsi - Bruno ☺ I foolishly read while drinking coffee. It was spattered all over the table. You are naughty. But I like you. 😂 😂

awaynboilyurheid · 10/11/2020 18:14

Or Darcy ? ( I miss her)

Stormyinacoffeemug · 10/11/2020 18:25

one or two dances over and over again is alright if it is one you like, but if you dont like a particular style then it ruins the whole evening. I think the only exception should be the first two weeks - they should only be allowed to choose from maybe two ballroom and two latin and then half do latin/ballroom and the other half do ballroom/latin over the first two shows

GrouchyKiwi
I agree. Gives contestants a chance to learn some good steps in the first few weeks and build up confidence without throwing them into the deep end, which is painful to watch

Couples' Choice should definitely be kept for the last 5 or so weeks

Newbie to these threads (struts around with hands on hips, glitter sprinkling wildly), I agree with the format suggestions here.
I think I would like maybe:
weeks 1-4 - low difficulty dances
Weeks 5-8 - medium level dances
Weeks 9-12 - high technical dances
With maybe 2 or 3 if both ballroom and Latin at each difficulty.

Disclaimer - I'm not a dancer, it may not be that easy!!
