I remember Angela Rippon hosting come dancing. It was brilliant.

FuzzyPuffling · 10/11/2020 11:26

Budge up on the Gimmer Bench. I need quite a bit of space for my Gimmer Arse.

Everyone in original Come dancing looked middle aged. In retrospect they were probably quite young. Peggy Spencer, anyone?

GrouchyKiwi · 10/11/2020 11:28

Tbh I agree - one or two dances over and over again is alright if it is one you like, but if you dont like a particular style then it ruins the whole evening. I think the only exception should be the first two weeks - they should only be allowed to choose from maybe two ballroom and two latin and then half do latin/ballroom and the other half do ballroom/latin over the first two shows.

That way you'd get variety but also everyone gets a couple of weeks to learn the basics and everyone starts on a more level playing field - so you dont have a novice doing a paso vs a ringah doing a waltz in week one, causing uneven scoring.

What I do think they should do is insist on the individual couples alternating latin/ballroom every week. That way you dont get someone who prefers Latin stacking all their Latin dances early on to give them an easier ride. Couples choice should also not be allowed in the first half of the series, it should be a "reward" for progressing, not something you can whip out in week 2/3.

I agree. Gives contestants a chance to learn some good steps in the first few weeks and build up confidence without throwing them into the deep end, which is painful to watch.

Couples' Choice should definitely be kept for the last 5 or so weeks.

I'm sure they used to alternate ballroom and Latin.

Dammit, put that apostrophe in the wrong place.

We live near what used to be a very famous Dancing School which was often mentioned on Come Dancing. It’s a day nursery now!

Fuzzy. Love, I have an arse that could fit in seamlessly in a documentary about hippos.

I’m wondering how much tulle I would need to hide MY multitude of sins? Shirl would have plenty to say I think!

However I would dazzle her with 7, yes sevunnnnnnnn, thousand hand sewn sequins. (She’d like me because of the pity element.)

I’ve been in fillums you know . Can you see me?

IntermittentParps · 10/11/2020 12:29

Well I thought Nicola raised her game massively in the dance-off. The judges basically put her there by scoring her low (by which I mean sensibly) as she was the first to dance, and then massively inflating their scoring as the night went on.

I was sad to see Jason go – a gent and such a positive, buoyant kind of person. He was let down by not good choreography and a song impossible to dance to. I didn't think he was that bad actually. Luba seemed genuinely touched by having worked with and got to know him, and she was very classy to give credit to the work and sacrifice it's taken to get Strictly on this year. She's gone up in my estimation.

Bill was amazing, I thought. Ranvir danced beautifully. Does she have a background in it? I know they said her ballet teacher used the word 'elephant' but one week she said something about a side of her that's been 'lost for a long time'; and she seems too good to be a beginner.
JJ was OK but I think they're overmarking him. Can't warm to Maisie. Hrvy looked freaky. I liked Clara; love her attitude and she and Aljaz are a terrific couple.
Max was surprisingly good but man is he boring and thick.

I thought Jamie was incredibly energetic and very game. I quite like him.
Caroline is pissing me off royally. Her face is like a well-skelpt arse if the judges are anything except fawning, but I'm sorry mate, that dance was sedate and safe and dull. She needs to get over herself. Saying that, maybe the judges are trying to provoke her into letting rip; I'd certainly like to see that as I think she could be fantastic.

That's how they did it from series 10-15 ish, so in the first two weeks there were four dances. It's only been the last couple of years that it's been a free-for-all.

Before that it was a bit more regimented, but they've played around with it a bit over time (ballroom night/Latin night, girls night/boys night etc).

I'd like to see Rob Bryson. I think he's quite musical (and looks a bit like Anton).

I saw you!

I thought you were FAB-U-LOUS, DAHLING!

(And surprisingly light on your feet for a traditionally built lady like myself)

Tlollj · 10/11/2020 14:00

I’m really not feeling it this year. Don’t know why, but it’s so drab somehow.
Pity Jason went I thought. But his dance was a strange choice.
Loving Bill, Jamie and Ranvir.

jambeforeclottedcream · 10/11/2020 14:10

They also didn't do American Smooth and a couple of other dances until later on in the series. When they'd improved and learnt the basics

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 10/11/2020 14:15

I think Craig is toned down a bit this year because there isn't anyone truly awful.

stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 10/11/2020 14:18

Delightful Smile

CounsellorTroi · 10/11/2020 14:38

The fixed smiles, the rigid elbows . . . And the formation stuff, sometimes views from the top, with what seemed like a million miles of net covered with sequins ("every one sewn on by hand"), and all the women with rock solid hairstyles due to having 2 and a half cans of maximum hold hairspray on them!

Terrible fire hazard!

Yes but he's also quite short, might be hard to find a female pro who isn't taller than him!

merryhouse · 10/11/2020 15:01

Oh that dance had everything. Mark and Karen, gorgeous dress, Piano Man, more content than all of last week....

I don't think Craig's toned it down - his scoring indicates that he's not seen anything quite so dreadful as sometimes. I think it just doesn't seem as nasty when the audience aren't booing. It makes him reiterate too, so it seems worse than it originally was.

(I'm on the "shut the fuck up audience" side, if you hadn't realised)

unique1986 · 10/11/2020 15:01

^ Week 4 Dances........

Well not impressed again.......

merryhouse · 10/11/2020 15:03

Oh my word. Unless Rapper's Delight is totally unlike what the title suggests... (I'm not sure I dare google)

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/11/2020 15:04

I think we've hit a new low.

Only one proper ballroom dance out of ten.

Clara and Aljaž: Charleston to Baby Face by Julie Andrews

They're going to be dressed as babies, aren't they? Bonnets, romper suits, a kiss curl for Aljaz ... Sad Sad Sad
