Gosh we're a chatty bunch!

There will still be a lot of behind the scenes staff at Strictly though surely? Hair, make up, costume?

I’d assumed that all the backstage crew were PPE-ed to the max for that very reason, though: hair or make-up spread it to the cast and that’s the entire show gone in one fell swoop!

What a shame. Would be lovely if Jason came back, but guess he can't , as he'll have been living a "normal" life since leaving.

My guess is there'll just be no elimination this week. What happened when Kelly Brook pulled out?

I've just seen the news two... anyone else hoping they let Jason and Luba come back!? Though probably too late for this weekend..

I thought just the same when I read the Nicola post.

I'm sorry to lose her from the competition like this, but unless they want it to finish in a fortnight, they might have to let some people come back.

They’ve always had still eliminations when anyone has withdrawn for whatever reason, which is why sometimes there was a two-person final.

They’ve also never ever brought back a previously eliminated couple.

They were expecting something like this, which is why they had a potential five-person final pencilled in.

The BBC press release says ‘The pair are the first couple in Strictly history to be forced out of the competition due to illness’, but I though Jimmy Tarbuck pulled out due to a newly diagnosed heart condition.

Oh hang on, ignore me, apparently The Sun that claimed that, and obviously they are a desert when it comes to factual accuracy!

I think they'll revert to a four couple final now.

I think she didn't have much longer left but a shame for them both. Jamie in peril this weekend I would have said

They'll still have an elimination. Last year Will Bayley pulled out because of injury. They carried on as normal.

I assumed Katya lived alone so would be less likely to catch it mainly spending time with Nicola and in the bubble.

The other dancers and the presenters and judges are all distancing from each other. Only Nicola will have been in frequent close contact with her.
I'm not sure about crew in the sense of hair and make-up etc; I don't know how much they're all doing themselves and how much contact they have with the hair and make-up artists etc.

Ah. Now that is a pity. No one wants to go out like that.

I do still think they’d have been out soon but it is still a pity she didn’t get to finish their strictly journey.

Quite a logistical pain. Hope everyone else stays virus free!

And this is why they scheduled it for a five person finale - the odds of this happening were always high, and they can lose another two couples and still have a two couple finale.

However if I were the producers if I lost two more couples then I’d have a non-elimination week so I was still on track for a minimum of three couples in the final, because if you lost two more couples and headed for a two couple final then the risk of one of the four participants testing positive during the last week and destroying the whole final would be too high.

EvilRingahBitch, yes, and also a two-couple final is DULL. I remember the year Mark Ramprakash won was a two-couple final and I got sick of the sight of them all! Plus they looked exhausted having to do so many dances (I think they stuck in an extra one to fill in the time) and wiht hardly any rest in between.

There have been loads of withdrawals over the years: Jimmy Tarbuck, Kelly Brook, Anastacia, Will Young, Jade Johnson, John Sargeant, Will Bayley, and probably a few others I can’t remember.

There’s always still been an elimination that same week. The only time there wasn’t an elimination was when they cocked up the leaderboard so it was impossible for Tom Chambers to make it to the final even if he maxed the public vote. (And Brendan’s pissy face was a picture! )

I think their fans would have kept them in a few more weeks regardless.
As it was a slight surprise they were in bottom two last week.
I'm a bit surprised at their lack of chemistry though.
I cant aee Katya being paired with another female again...
It just didnt work for them whether that was the dances or music or their relationship who knows.
But Nicola might have improved this week.
I was just shocked at how little they clicked. Very awkward interviews.

Two-person finals are tedious! Didn’t Alesha and Matt DA have to do about five dances each? They were wrecked by the end of it!

Yes, I think they new ballroom, new Latin, re-did one of each, and did a show dance.

Oh, I didn't remember Alesha and Twat Di Angelo being in a two-couple final.

How did Katya catch Covid? Thought they were all in safe bubbles? Sorry to see her go.

Yes, that was the year Kelly Brook withdrew. I was gutted because Gethin would likely have been in the final otherwise (which he should have been anyway, seeing as he never went for a bit of a sit down during any of his dances )
