Talking of Neil, anyone else glad to see the demise of "Nell du Jaune" ??

But weirdly, Neil’s dances were really boring. Or maybe I was just distracted by the overwhelming amount of smarm he brought to the party

I know, it’s bizarre. I was expecting great things from him given that I’ve heard for years that he put the ‘magic’ in Katya’s routines, and then him & Alex were so dull.

That said, I didn’t think Alex was particularly gifted as a dancer, so maybe he’s best at choreographing for people who can already dance.

I thought Neil was good last year, I enjoyed his dances with Alex. The jive to "Twist Again" was brilliant.

What was Nell du Jaune?

Neil's "comedic" alter ego, who used to do dance demonstrations on ITT dressed in... well.. strange outfits..

I have to agree about Nell du Jaune :) but I did love Neil's pairing with Alex last year and voted for them all the way through.
I'd like to have seen him given another chance tbh. Maybe next year.

Yes, maybe. I can imagine it'd be complicated. Or maybe because it's a big global franchise and they want to keep broadcasters buying it rather
than make it too available?

I've loved reading this thread - finally caught up! It's like you've all been listening to me ranting in our living room I really wish they'd go back to some of the old ways. Waltz one week, Latin the next. It made it much fairer and less easy for the fingers to totally dominate.

I can't stand Shirley, she is really nasty! I don't care how experienced she is, I'm sure they could do much much better. I don't mind Motsi...if they had Craig, Motsi and someone critiquing very technically it would be quite balanced.
Another one who loves Clara! She has such a lovely attitude and a beautiful smile, just wish they would learn how to dress her gorgeous figure

No not missing him at all!! I like the calmer judging without it being ott. Mind you Motiz is more than making up for it and I proper cringed at Shirley’s “Hercules Hercules” moment. Sit down love. Craig is really the only trust worthy judge so if he gives a 9 I pay attention. Motzi is throwing them around like confetti.

Also loving Clara and feel she’s been very very overlooked by wardrobe, make-up and the judges. I hope she’s one of those slow burners who will go far.

I also meant to ask does anyone think Bruno is genuinely live (in the studio at least I know it’s oreecorded overall). Is he there chatting with the judges or is his segments just prerecorded and filled in? It doesn’t seem like there is much genuine interaction between him and the judges and Claudia? I also don’t believe he’s watching it all?? I’m convinced that the launch show Bruno video was a prerecorded thing with set comments based in rehearsals or similar.

I said the same thing about Bruno to my partner...I doubt he is watching!
I may be the only one who actually quite likes him as a judge..he is OTT though speaks some sense in there somewhere unlike Motsi..so...yes I would like Bruno back and replace Motsi.

I've been watching clips from series one & I'm so sad it's not about the actual technical dancing anymore. The judges used to talk in depth about what they were looking for from a dance style or say things like "when you do [specific step] you need to [actually helpful, specific advice for improvement]." I miss that!

What I don't miss are the inappropriate comments. At one point, Bruce tells a woman she's "the bust... I mean best I got confused because... You know... " Anton & Leslie Garrett are all over each other, both making really ott comments about each other & kissing. Even if they are at it behind the scenes, they tend to be a lot more professional on screen these days. My DC love Strictly & I think we'd all be cringing if any of the couple's behaved that way!

There was more open rivalry between the couples then - I think it was Anton who said he saw the others as the enemy & he wanted to win... Now it's all, "oh, of course I'd love to win but I'm just sooo happy to be here & everyone else is just sooo lovely & soooo talented..."

I actually do miss Bruno. I think he brought joy to the programme. And he did care about the dancing, you could often see him standing up and leaning over his desk to get a better view.

I'd love Claudia, but I'd guess at Gethin (I wouldn't mind that, I had a bit of a crush on him when he was a Blue Peter presenter) or Joe Sugg because he does the podcast.
