REALLY?!?! That's actually unbelievable

I'm glad other people were shocked by this too. My DH & I had a guessing game last night about her age watching ITT as we knew she'd retired from boxing but my DH thought she was about 22, I said 30 at a push.

NoTimeToDiet · 11/11/2020 11:10

James Jordan can be really cruel and comes across as a misogynist, I’d hate to see him on the judges panel.

She joined the school I spent many happy years teaching in shortly after I left.

They ought to bring James Jordan or Brendan back to light a fire under the panel grin

*Yep, I could go for that, as they say.

... And on the subject of Clara, as Len himself MIGHT have said had he not bailed on us “I reckon you’re the dark horse of this competition”. She’s good, we all know she’s good... I wouldn’t be surprised if she sees off a few of the favourites at the very least...

Agree with all comments about how dumbed down it is now. I think it’s the inappropriate music and stupid themes that jar the most - why do all movies have to be cartoons/kids movies? It’s not that long ago that Jay did the holy jive (as Monkseal would say) they had the costumes and general vibe from the film & some choreography but it worked even if you hadn’t seen Pulp Fiction. The other thing that really gets me is them overusing songs/movies especially in theme nights even if their good (Grease, Cabaret) it still grates.

Agree with this. Every now and again they do something original and wholly appropriate (imho)... I thought Joe and Diane’s Peaky Blinders themed Argentine tango a couple of years ago was great and relevant and worked really well (although it didn’t get a very good score if I remember right). I’d like to see more of that kind of thing. Not dancers dressed up as gnomes or pandas, just a different take on a classic, kind of thing

KurriKawari · 11/11/2020 17:37

Watched lots of Jay's dances on YouTube last night - at the time I wasnt as enamoured with him as everyone else, but boy is he a beautiful dancer, and the simplicity of his ballroom was really divine.

Frequentflier · 11/11/2020 18:05

An example of how to do a great Movie Week dance with a very poor dancer without resorting to crass comedy was Katya's " Matrix" dance with Sean Walsh two years ago. She managed to make him look so good when he could not dance at all. That's what the producers should be aiming for: not all this cringey cartoon themes.
Used to love Katya's choreo but she seems beaten down after the whole Sean thing.

IntermittentParps · 11/11/2020 18:33

why do all movies have to be cartoons/kids movies?

Caroline's wasn't either, or JJ's, Bill's, Ranvir's…

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 11/11/2020 18:43

Lol at BvB - and Karen - on ITT!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 11/11/2020 18:46

Zoe keeps talking over the guests, it drives me mad Hmm Grin

ShirleyPhallus · 11/11/2020 18:53

She does and it’s a real shame.

I feel like Diane and Janette are the worst for stupid themed dances. Something about them being small and energetic seems to bring out the ridiculous costumes and OTT faces

Maireas · 11/11/2020 18:56

Baron von Biscuits and Karen were lovely. He's funny and nice. Anyone else joining in with the Pudsey dance??

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 11/11/2020 19:03

In their defense it might get forced on them and they've learned not to fight it.

As a pro I'm sure your card gets marked the more you push back against the producers' ideas.

I sense AJ's ambitious and wants to go into presenting...via reality TV (not sure how that's going to pan out). By the end he seemed sick of being the youngest on Strictly and having to do cutesy routines with his partners all the time. Tess, Zoe etc were incredibly patronising to him on a weekly basis 😬

BigBadVoodooHat · 11/11/2020 19:04

Used to love Katya's choreo but she seems beaten down after the whole Sean thing.

Apparently Neil played a large part in assisting with Katya’s choreography (with the rumour being that he came up with the more ‘inventive’ stuff) so possibly the divorce means she’s lost that input.

jambeforeclottedcream · 11/11/2020 19:07

Oh I love Brendan and James Jordan

I follow James Jordon on Twitter and he's the voice of reason and says what the score should be. I'm always flicking between James and MN during the show

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 11/11/2020 19:07

I haven't been following the Pudsey dance but caught Maisie and Gorka's segment.

Maisie was basically pouting and sneering all the way though it as if she was above it (she made sure all her moves were on point though!). It's for kids FFS, couldn't she crack a genuine smile?

So frustrating as I love her dancing, Gorka is beautiful to watch but her attitude is spoiling it!

But weirdly, Neil’s dances were really boring. Or maybe I was just distracted by the overwhelming amount of smarm he brought to the party
GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 11/11/2020 19:13

Me too Jambe! You can tell he's holding back from giving his full uncensored opinion Grin but at least it's something.

I always loved Brendan as a dancer on Strictly. I can't understand why they won't stick the old series on iPlayer. There must be a reason. Music rights?

Less of a James/Ola fan but they definitely brought something and were great dancers (Latin champions?)

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 11/11/2020 19:17

I agree about Katya/Neil. I was expecting to see incredible things from Neil.

Maybe he only knows how to choreo for flexible female pros who are light as a feather and not the general population!

Maireas · 11/11/2020 19:29

Talking of Neil, anyone else glad to see the demise of "Nell du Jaune" ?? Halloween Confused

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/11/2020 19:33

Hello. New to this thread in particular and MN in general, but I feel like I need a safe space to vent about how much I love Clara, and how furious I am at the way she is being underscored. She has more spark and intensity than all of them put together, and proper connection with Aljaz without having to roll around on the floor flashing gussets.

Totally agree.

When her name was announced I thought "Who?" and I am ashamed to say I thought they must be desperate and had trawled the corridors of the BBC asking everyone including cleaners and "gophers" - "Please come not he show - it'll be fun!"

But she is brilliant - such a lovely girl and sparky personality - and Shirley seems to hate her with her usual Ballas passion. I hope she does well as I'd like to see her in for longer.

the80sweregreat · 11/11/2020 19:37

Clara is great. Let's hope she gets better marks this week.

Maireas · 11/11/2020 19:39

Clara is bright, fun, engaging and energetic. Why on earth she's marked lower than some of the others is a mystery to me!
I wish they'd dress her properly as well.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 11/11/2020 19:40

Joining the Clara love!

Maireas I was scared to check YT - glad to hear Nell du Jaune is no more!
