I thought we might run out of space soon!

@Theromanempire

And why no Monkseal this year?? What have I missed? Yet another crappy turn of events in 2020 Sad
Last year he decided to do just one more year and then stop because he'd been doing it for ages. Then this year went all to hell and he just wasn't feeling it or something. It's a shame because I used to love reading his summaries.
Maireas · 19/10/2020 23:02

@Theromanempire - yes, I know it's because of the bubbles, but I think it must be really hard! Janette will see her husband on the show and not be able to give him a hug or kiss! I think it's probably tricky, but they'll manage!

gleegeek · 20/10/2020 00:04

Ooh good a new thread!
I've never been a Caroline Quentin fan, she's always seemed a bit forced and over the top to me.

I mourn Monkseal but he still comments on twitter and digital spy. The final nails in coffin were Bruno's absence and Wordpress charging for hosting polls.

I will change back to my Strictly name in a bit, cannot be arsed right now - in the meantime who wants 80s Gleb and nerdy Artem in a very dodgy DWTS 80s theme week? You do?

Reminds me Artem went the blonde bleach Gorka/Karen look on his series with Nikki - fortunately he has gone back to his usual gorgeous self. He didn't have to don an 80s wig this week either - Val and Gleb did - but he did wear an awful one a few years back poor sod.

Shangrilalala · 20/10/2020 07:45

I find Karen’s blonde look confusing as I’m perpetually mistaking her for Monica Galetti. I’m vaguely surprised every time she takes to the dance floor without an omelette pan in tow.

Maireas · 20/10/2020 07:48

Ahh. Monica Galetti! That's who she reminds me of! Thank you!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 20/10/2020 08:11

@DramaAlpaca

Hello all Smile I normally lurk on the Strictly threads not really knowledgeable enough to post but I'm coming out of hiding this year
I don't know anything either but the lovely thing about the Strictly thread is that no-one scolds you for not knowing anything. You're totally allowed to come on here and say: God, that outfit was horrendous, or: it's your last shag ever - Aljaz or Giovanni? and no-one judges you for not talking about the purity of dahhhhhhhhhhhnce.

Some posters are really knowledgeable and help us out with whether the dancing is actually any good or not 😂

ThursdayLastWeek · 20/10/2020 08:12

Morning all, checking in after finally watching the launch show on the iPlayer yesterday.

I’m glad it’s Katya in the same sex pairing, she always has imaginative choreo. I can’t quite imagine Amy being as flexible somehow.

Agree about CQ being MUCH more luvvie DAHLING than I imagined, but I like her no less for it and think it makes for a fun pairing with Johannes.

I still can’t quite believe Bill Bailey is on it, but he makes for a fun counterpoint amongst all the sincerity.

I don’t think I’ll ever love BVB to be honest.

Didn’t particularly notice any over confidence in Maisie??

Looking forward to Saturday night, although would you believe it I’m going out again so I’ll have to watch on Sunday.

FuzzyPuffling · 20/10/2020 08:39

I know bog all about dancing. I had a very few ballet lessons as a small child, but was so rubbish I went horse riding instead. And then half a dozen "social dancing" lessons in sixth form. Although I expect this would make me a ringer in SCD terms!

charliebear78 · 20/10/2020 09:17

In that case Giovani..( In reply to the question @TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross posed)
I always read these threads but rarely comment, love the fact the show and thread are back.

Iwantacampervan · 20/10/2020 09:17

Good morning everyone - I'm a lurker (may have posted once or twice in the past) & know little despite attending ballroom dancing classes many years ago . Do we need to reiterate the NO SPOILERS, no giving any hint of the result after Saturday etc?
@ThursdayLastWeek, going out again? You're lucky, my Saturday evening will be pjs and a jigsaw or knitting (like last week).

ppeatfruit · 20/10/2020 09:58

How lovely to see all the ex lurkers . Speaking for Polka (I hope you don't mind Polk ?) EVERYONE"S welcome Grin Grin

( just rewatched the recording) I really enjoyed Saturday's, they should always do it like that, much more relaxed! Esp. without the hysterical audience, did anyone notice a few people in black masks sitting the behind the judges?

bibliomania · 20/10/2020 11:14

I'm ridiculously grateful for Strictly and Bake-off this year. Makes me feel there is some but of normality in the world.

Idea for Christmas special - a Strictly Bake-off Special! Perform a dance routine while baking a cake. Epic.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 20/10/2020 11:31

Not at all ppeat, it isn't really my thread, I just started a new one because I know how much we all chatter! Grin

(Although if whoever starts the next one could stick to the SCD '20 #x: format it does make them easier to search for.)

I have a feeling I saw somewhere that they specified black masks. I suppose to do with the lighting? I don't really like them though, I think they look a bit unsettling, especially when they're sitting in the dark. Like there's a gap between their nose and their collar!

We're traditionally a spoiler-free thread, so I think most people know, but I can ask MNHQ to add it to the first message. Glitterball

TOLBINC
Aljaz - I think he'd be less judgy. Gio is a wee bit vain/slave driver - not sure he'd manage with my plus-size figure whereas Aljaz, although he is used to a wee slip of a thing Janette who presumably is gymnastic, athletic and God knows what else, Aljaz has kind eyes and might welcome more cushion for the pushin' just as a change, like.

From the former pros, Tristan. He seems the kind of bloke you could have a laugh with, get drunk with, have your last shag with - all without it being too awkward after. Dry humour, realistic, chilled out. Good craic. Grin

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/10/2020 13:09

If my only choice is between Aljaz and Gio then I would choose Gio because Aljaz seems a bit vanilla. Which I find weird because I'm fairly vanilla myself, but I just can connect Aljaz and sex in my mind, like he's a Ken doll and smooth down below.

Given a free choice then it's Gorka, obviously.

morningtoncrescent62 · 20/10/2020 13:19

Finally caught up on iPlayer. I was careful not to log on to Monkseal until I'd seen the launch show, and I'm now gutted to find he's not doing his thing this year. Strictly won't be the same without him. Still, at least we have these threads. I watched the launch show entirely uncritically, out of sheer gratitude that they've found a way to make Strictly go ahead this year at all. And I'm a little relieved that there aren't quite as many contestants as in recent years because it had become a bit of a marathon, and it was taking me weeks and weeks to remember who they all were.

Seeing the pros again felt like seeing old friends! I would love to have been in that house where they all stayed together to film the group dances.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 20/10/2020 13:33

I think this is my favourite couple! Grin

SCD '20 #2: First dances (and HRVY'S FRST DNC), but no hallowe'en
GraveyardPlotsAndDoomedScreams · 20/10/2020 13:34

It's me (Polka) with a hallowe'en name change.

TOLBINC (you could become TOUBINC (TheOnlyUndeadBoy), I'd probably choose Aljaž. He has a nice smile.

BANS, I don't know about that... He likes dressing up. Grin

Theromanempire · 20/10/2020 14:09

Out of the choice of Gio and Alijaz, Gio without a doubt Grin I agree that Alijaz is a bit sexless Confused

I agree with a pp...I was totally uncritical of Sat night because I am so glad they have found a way to do it and huge admiration to the dancers and celebs for putting their lives on hold for X weeks although I am sure they are paid handsomely for such sacrifice Grin

It is like a tiny bit of normality has returned to this shitshow of a year Smile

lAmuseMyseIf · 20/10/2020 14:18

Aw just remembered Monkseal used to describe Aljaz as sexy Frankenstein. I find him more attractive now because he is super smiley and it reaches his eyes. I only found AJ to be sexless - even then, there was one launch red carpet wear he had a tux and a creme scarf and I could see it. Aljaz has not been sexless to me since he worse those boous and breeches in his Wuthering Smooth. When Alison lets him kind of pivot off her at 1.22 (technical term right there) I thought oh yes, I see it now. I think it might be the guyliner though. I even like Gio with guyliner and can see why Debbie spontaneously went for it. Grin

lAmuseMyseIf · 20/10/2020 14:20

where (zero excuse except I was dreaming of pros and what they weren't wearing!)
boots (I really must concentrate!)

ppeatfruit · 20/10/2020 14:26

Yes I so agree about GBBO and Strictly helping us along with pretending everything is 'normal" . We 're soo lucky with our tecchie stuff, can you imagine how it was in the early 1920s with that terrible flu that was literally killing millions? Halloween Shock

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 20/10/2020 14:29

Oh Gio is the hottest pro dance hands down.

Alijaz is gorgeous but he doesn't have that special something

I notice Graziano is in the dancers but not got a partner. Wonder hope many times we are going to see him trying to get into the camera shot for the sake of it this year????

GrouchyKiwi · 20/10/2020 15:01

I agree that Giovanni is the hottest pro dancer. But also that Tristan is super lovely and I wish he'd stayed.
