So exciting, it's on Amazon Prime 28 October!!!

@Sleepyquest

I can't believe how much adult Deja looked like teen deja and spoke like her too!
Yes!! I immediately knew it was her. It's something about the mannerisms too. The way they cast the actors for the parts at different life stages, i think it's brilliant. Like before with the child and teen big three and Beth's teenage counterpart, to name a few.

I saw this come and saved it hot when I finished season 5. I dudng realise it was a weekly show until a few minutes ago when I ran out.

After watching little fires every where, this is us popped up. I tend to go by names of shows. I didn't read about them or how long they are to keep a surprise effect. In the middle of season one I notice five seasons. Se1 18 episodes. I could not workout how this would work..it turns out I was wrong. Within a week I am now done. 😌 I loved crazy stupid love and its plot twist. But Dan fogelman (a name I learnt recently) took this to another level. He did a Kevin and grew. Pun intended. Cried, laughed, got really angry and pissed off. But overall an emotional roller coaster. 😢

debbrianna · 26/02/2021 15:28

I love young Rebecca mum, hate old Rebecca.

I love young kate, not somuch after high school kate back and forth with grown up kate.

Young and high-school Kevin are both dicks. Grown up Kevin is so far the best. Most of the time.

I don't like young beth, love grown up beth. I just wish she didn't turn into Randall's mother and keeper. They would be more affluent if the dynamic was equal. Randall coerced her into marriage. It was very uncomfortable to watch pre great family life.

Randall🤔
I loved under 10yrl loved. Didn't warm to High school Randall. Love hate with grown up Randall.

Loved Weight watcher Madison in a different way to current Madison.

Randall kids, loved foster deja, not so much the older one. Didn't like the older child. Love the young one and she comes across more sensible, I think she will have Randall issues when she grows up.

I hate kates husband..

Loved older nick. Felt sorry for the young him and under teen him. I hate Both beth and Randall's mother separately.

I didn't know what yo make of william . I wanted more of his relationship with beth tone shown . He gave her courage to stand up to Randall the great I can't do nothing.

The worst part so far. Is Randall coercing his mother to take up the trial. He was mean. She was in voluntary state.

I would gave hone for Kevin going telling Randall about the day ge was brought home. However, we already knew that.

Interesting that finally a singer comes out of that family. Curtsey of baby Jack.

shivermetimbers77 · 26/02/2021 15:33

Like child Randall, can get a bit annoyed with adult Randall when he is too earnest.

Really disliked teenage Kevin but love adult Kevin: he seems like the most relatable of them all.

Love Beth at all ages.

Like child and teenage Kate, but oh my god adult Kate gets on my nerves. Such a martyr and seems like everyone has to walk on eggshells around her feelings.

Looking forward to learning more about Miguel.

Sarcobaleno · 26/02/2021 15:48

Love young Beth and current Beth. She's a hero. Randall is clearly a lovely man but would be intolerable to live with and seems a little bit self centred.

Kate is fairly irritating. As is older Rebecca but I like younger Rebecca. I quite like Toby. I like older Kevin more than I should. I think he'll stick with Madison, I hope so anyway.

The casting for Randall's girls as older women was incredible. Deja could have been the same actress.

debbrianna · 26/02/2021 16:02

I think kate would have always been fat. She was a big child, her mother and bullies didn't help. I also think Rebecca has an eating disorder . Not like Madison's but one where she has to constantly restrict her diet. Her eating came up in snipets, especially when Kevin talked about ordering salad for her and only being the food she eats.

I don't think she loved Randall more. She was compensating for her guilt of not loving him enough and keeping the secret.

Season 4 was uncomfortable to see the family dynamic and split. I think that is why Randall is so adamant to create a family and life of his own.

Sleepyquest · 26/02/2021 19:27

I love Beth, she is by far the most grounded person.
Dislike Kate to be honest. She has had one too many pity parties and she needs to lose weight in all honesty.

Think this is not a fair comment. It’s an actress at the end of the day doing Kate’s role so we don’t know whether she wants to lose weight or can’t or whatever.
BenoneBeauty · 26/02/2021 21:26

I don't think @Sleepyquest was talking about the actress though - she was talking about the character Kate and if they didn't want her to be that size, they would have cast someone different so I agree, Kate has had far too many pity parties (for no understandable reason) and just needs to sort herself out.

Sleepyquest · 26/02/2021 21:42

Thank you @BenoneBeauty I am talking about Kate. They picked that actress for a reason like you say.

I just love love the show!! I used to watch it whilst breastfeeding my little one in the middle of the night so good memories attached to it too.

Teenageromance · 02/03/2021 22:21

I’m only on series 3 but I’m watching loads of them at a time. I find Kates weight quite upsetting. She is so unhealthily overweight.

BentBastard · 18/03/2021 13:40

New episode up folks!

Ohnomoreno · 18/03/2021 13:43

I love the show but just can't watch season 5- masks everywhere. I watch TV to escape that shit.

BentBastard · 18/03/2021 15:08

I think after making a big meal of masks in the first episode they're a bit more incidental now.

I do with they hadn't felt the need to roll covid into the show though so I take your point.

Ohnomoreno · 18/03/2021 18:47

@BentBastard ok maybe I should persevere. Just found it so depressing!

You should, it gets better.

Pl242 · 19/03/2021 17:12

Really enjoyed this week’s episode. Felt like after a few set piece episodes the overall direction of travel is beginning to move again towards the overall conclusion of the show.

I wondered whether the tension around money for Kate and Toby, his dismissal of her somewhat and Kevin’s reiteration to Kate that what’s his is hers and his mention of them all living in a Pearson compound, perhaps foreshadowed the flash forward of them all at Kevin’s cabin? And that perhaps Toby and Kate are no longer together by then?

Sarcobaleno · 21/03/2021 08:04

I don't think Toby and Kate are together in future episodes. The way the rest of the family behaved towards Toby was much more like he was estranged from them. I'm Team Toby already. How far through the season are we? Feels like threads might begin to come together

Yes, I can’t see Toby and Kate lasting. I really like Toby, Kate is tying with Madison as my least favourite character. Kate is hard work.

I think we’re over half way through? We’ve just had episode 10 and there are usually 18, I wonder if that’ll be the same this year after the Covid disruption though?

Really looking forward to the next one and Uncle Nicky’s appearance, I like him a lot.

Tinpo · 21/03/2021 18:50

I love this programme but I have to force myself to ignore the fact that nobody seems to care about or remember the other triplet Kyle. I feel like in a family like this he would be mentioned occasionally, like maybe a baby given his name as a middle name or talking about him at birthdays. Apart from Rebecca once or twice in the early days, nobody mentions him.

I actually find the whole premise of them ‘replacing’ him with Randall quite disturbing - possibly I’m over sensitive to it having been through baby loss. (But when I first started watching it I hadn’t lost a baby yet, so got hooked before I realised how messed up it was!) anyone else feel the same?

Sarcobaleno · 21/03/2021 19:37

@Tinpo Firstly, I'm really sorry for your loss xx I know what you mean about how they've handled it. I haven't been through it myself but I watch the portrayal of the early Pearson family years and other than one episode Kyle was hardly mentioned. I don't know why they have chosen to overlook this fundamental aspect but it doesn't sit right.

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 21/03/2021 21:53

@Tinpo you're so right, I'd not really considered that but now can't understand how I'd not noticed that they never mention Kyle.

Pl242 · 22/03/2021 11:01

Very sorry for your loss @Tinpo.

For me however the lack of mention of Kyle doesn’t overly jar in the sense of the story. Given that they adopted Randall and he already had so many issues for Rebecca and Jack to manage (abandoned by birth parents, growing up as a black kid in a white family) I doubt they would want to remind him of a child he effectively replaced and the implied next step that if Kyle had lived they wouldn’t have adopted him. I am surprised though that Randall doesn’t mention Kyle in therapy. Unless he did and I have forgotten.

I am the same age as the big 3 and I think the silence also reflects the generation of our parents too. My parents and their peers don’t tend to speak of baby loss where my peers tend to do some more openly.

Pl242 · 22/03/2021 11:11

I should add that I agree that the way Kyle is replaced by Randall is a bit disturbing in some ways but again is of it’s time and very much in Jacks’s mo to play the hero.

Tinpo · 22/03/2021 12:43

Thanks all, and you’re probably right @Pl242 - it is typical of the time to not talk about baby loss. It just makes me a bit sad that he’s forgotten about. And I agree that it was a very Jack thing to do to insist on taking Randall home when they had just been through this massive trauma. Like his attempt to save the day.

Although if Kyle had survived then instead of The Big Three they would have The KKK Shock that would have been a very different story.
