Old thread full, so here we go again.

Going back to the last point on the old thread, I agree that they’re writing well for Tracy now. She’s still got her hard side, but they’ve made her caring in a straight talking way, rather than just a full-on bitch.

And spoiler people! We don’t like spoiler people.

excelledyourself · 12/10/2020 08:44

@eggandonion

My friend lived near Toyah and she always said hello in the newsagents. I'd like Keith Duffy to come back, I don't think he died. We are kind here to each other, but can be nasty to Corrie people when they deserve it.
This is so true Grin

I actually thought about this the other day. How, as I try to be less of a bitch in real life, at least I can go to town on the soap threads because they're not about real people Grin

eggandonion · 12/10/2020 09:01

It's so difficult to avoid reading spoilers these days, or seeing trailers. That's annoying, but it's great when something unexpected happens.
So I scowl at spoiler people, but sympathize too.

Deadringer · 12/10/2020 09:16

I never thought i would hope for a (fictional) child to just go ahead and die, but really, this storyline is appalling.

eggandonion · 12/10/2020 09:26

In hospital documentaries I want them to find a miracle, so I know it's just Corrie

Roussette · 12/10/2020 09:30

I just find the Oliver storyline distasteful, I can't help it. I think the timing is wrong, I think Leanne is a complete shrew, I think Steve has gone all wussy, there's nothing about it I'm engaged with.
And it was ridiculous to imagine that they were selling shops and houses to send money to a doctor they'd looked up on google!

excelledyourself · 12/10/2020 09:41

I didn't realise the extent of the similarities to CG. Now that I do, I find the storyline in poor taste.

But even aside from that, it's unbearable. Mostly due to Leanne and the selling of assets. Now the cramming in of Sam. And generally, I quite like Steve. He does the comedy quite well, but I don't think he's in any way convincing in this storyline.

I wonder how the actors felt when they realised the similarities to the CG case.

eggandonion · 12/10/2020 10:32

I know they said they were working closely with the charity concerned, and I'm sure trying to find help from alternative sources and internet doctors is not unusual. It's maybe just the timing is bad. Fluffy Tracey is interesting, Sam is unnecessary.

BobsyerUncleFannysyerAunt · 12/10/2020 12:09

They have got too many stories on the go , its diluted them all . I'm even losing interest in Yasmin and Geoff

StillCoughingandLaughing · 12/10/2020 13:52

I loved Alma too. She was a great actress

Alma got one of the best lines ever during the Free Deirdre Rachid storyline. It was when she found out Mike was financing the campaign and she was furious. She said, “You keep talking about ‘Saving Deirdre’ like she’s some... area of outstanding natural beauty! Which in my opinion, she hasn’t been for quite some time!”

I’ve not posted on a Corrie thread for ages.

As PP I would love Keith Duffy to come back, it could be done, he is Peters friend, so maybe he could come and support him while he and Carla are having problems.

I am really surprised they went ahead with the Oliver storyline, it is I bad taste and with Covid going in it just feels like bad timing.

I was so gripped by Yasmeen/Geoff but it feels like it has gone a bit stale. What happened to Elaine?

The Bailey family(I didn’t know that was their name before seeing the thread title) have had too much screen time recently.

I am however enjoying the screen time that Adam has been getting, I don’t think he would have slept with that other woman though. I don’t know why the writers put that in?

Roussette · 12/10/2020 16:16

Welcome Thesearms
Agree with all you can say... I almost feel they have shot themselves in the foot with the best storyline for a long time... Yasmeen/Geoff

They obviously know it's their big thing and they are stringing it out and it comes to the point that viewers start losing interest.

ajandjjmum · 12/10/2020 17:02

As they did with Phelan.

desperatehousewife21 · 12/10/2020 17:18

Yes Keith Duffy! In fact that whole era was my fav on Corrie, what would that have been..early 2000s?

JamieLeeCurtains · 12/10/2020 17:29

Phelan just got tedious, which is an unusual turn of events for a serial killer.

JamieLeeCurtains · 12/10/2020 17:44

Re the Oliver story, I had a bit of a vent about this upthread a few days ago, and I still think it's a terrible mistake by the Corrie producers to 'go there'. The CG case had many unique features and the nature of some of the social media publicity around the case resulted in death threats to some of the hospital staff, among other things. It was an absolute shitshow.

The only possible medical lesson learned - and this is highly debatable - is that intervention has to happen as soon as possible after diagnosis (which may or may not be in the best interests of the child), but the Oliver character in Corrie is very far beyond that point.

Also, CG's experimental treatment was to be paid for by the NHS.

So what is the purpose of the Corrie story?

eggandonion · 12/10/2020 18:06

My hazy recollection of the psychological response to a terminal diagnosis is that there are stages including denial, determination to fight etc. I don't think corrie is the best place to examine the topic.
I hope the new baby that Charlie's parents have is thriving.

Roussette · 12/10/2020 18:24

Exactly. I have no idea of its purpose.

Corrie has covered some brilliant topics over the years, this isn't one of them.

MrsSteveMcDonald · 12/10/2020 18:29

I will always love Steve and have no problem with love handles.

JamieLeeCurtains · 12/10/2020 18:32

I think Corrie has become an absolute mess around children's issues. The quads being a case in point. Jack's leg. Hope and Ruby and the behavioural dramas. Oh and Max and his medication. Kidnapped Susie and Toyah. Toyah then fostering. Leanne and her adopted, forgotten son Simon. Nick and long-lost Sam. The Bailey family's non-child/grandchild.

I need Blanche to appear and say, 'This is about as realistic as Deidre being runner-up in the Miss Wetherfield pageant. And I'm including the hard-faced fish-wife category in that.'

Roussette · 12/10/2020 18:46

Jamie you've hit the nail on the head there!

MrsSteveM
