@WhenPushComesToShove - I’ve just finished Ep17. Holy fuck.
Quite clear they don’t do any psychological testing on applicants in advance.
Clearly some of them have the morals of an alley cat and the brains of a dust bin

Every time the announcer introduced “29 year old virgin, Matt” dh and I would predict what they were going to call him after his cherry was popped. We laughed that they couldn’t possibly call him “ex-virgin” since that applied to all of them, but they only blardy did!

Ines is very distant and staged. She’s either acting the whole thing on purpose - egged on by the producers - or she is a permanent actor. Her bored, bland agreement with everyone when she doesn’t want to talk to them is really odd. But the oddest part is no one noticing how detached it is.

I find her nervous cough really irritating.

She’s just too damaged to be on a show like this. She needs help from proper ixperts not sixperts.

We should do a round up of where everyone is so no one inadvertently gives a spoiler. Episode 18 next for me. I need to get back out into the real world and not binge.

It is purely made for tv isn't it. Who cares if there people are vulnerable it will hook the ladies of Mumsnet and they won't be able to stop seems to be the qualifying process for applicants.

Egghead68 · 30/09/2020 08:50

Just watching first dinner party but also skim watched the whole thing a few months ago (I.e. watched the episode summaries at the beginning).

Will try to catch up to second dinner party.

People seem to have been chosen for shock/drama value more than previous series. Lizzie seems fragile, also the ex-virgin, Ines, poss Cyrelle. I prefer it when it seems like there has been a genuine attempt to match the right people.

(Although who am I kidding... I love the drama too!)

Agree @Egghead68.
I also agree with the poster upthread who said there are far too many applicants this time who are blatantly on it this time for the Instagram exposure, which must be galling for those partners they are matched with who entered it genuinely.
I can actually see why Mortricia left.

Egghead68 · 30/09/2020 09:42

Agree. Having said that there do seem to be some genuinely good matches e.g. red-head and short cricketer.

Watching the 2nd dinner party....Shock

But apart from that, Matthew aahhhh, his blinking, and feeling so awkward Sad poor guy

Stuffofawesome · 30/09/2020 12:37

I'm ahead on grooms homestay and rapidly losing my faith in humanity. This series really suffers from producers choosing people who are in it for the likes.
Very disappointed in some of the women (looking at you Martha and Jess)
Cyrell really has rage issues but I think she genuinely wants to become a better person and change her reactions.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/09/2020 12:49

Have honestly had to stop watching it. I'm just going to keep up via theses threads.

I really, really can't look at some of these horrible people without wanting to put my foot through the TV, and I'm worrying myself sick about the vulnerable ones. Even Matt the (Ex-)Virgin. How much better it would have been had he and his assigned wife had the opportunity to get to know each other and form an at least affectionate relationship, rather than just having a sh*g.

I think it's rather sad.

Please let me retain my illusions, MAFS - don't shatter everything I believe inn a single outrageous series . . . Sad

WitchesNStuff · 30/09/2020 13:02

I do agree that there are some people who definitely shouldn't be on there but actually there are some really good moments in it and some lovely people too. There are some genuine people who I do believe want to become better people too, it is good to see those parts.

I was really cross at the producers re Matt and Lauren, they must have known about her leanings, why on earth would they think she is a suitable match. There are probably 2 people minumum that shouldn't have been allowed on there at all but one of them actually ends up coming off ok (evenutally), it's not all awful IMO

Colouringaddict · 30/09/2020 13:06

I think the issue with ex virgin Matt and Lauren was the fact that she hadn’t declared her sexual prowess. I also feel like maybe Matt was on the spectrum and the only model of relationships he had was the ones in his family. He went from loving Lauren to finding out she was very sexually liberated and being terrified of her and was left to make his own conclusions.
Where is the care for these couples? I know we all love the drama, but apart from the “commitment ceremony” there doesn’t seem to be any counselling in place for any of them.
Bronson clearly felt that his connection to Ines (I have six orgasms in my head when I see you Sam) was improving, but we only saw them meet for dinner and eat ice cream once. She was not as detached as she pretended to be, she is definitely scarred by her past and makes snap decisions in her head. One night with Sam and she wanted to marry him, which scared him off. On her wedding night, she almost wanted to see Branson’s bank statement to be sure he could afford her and the children she was going to have. Judging by the fact he had several businesses I think he could have given her an amazing lifestyle, but she judged him on his eyebrow ring and the fact he had been a stripper, he had a very lucky escape.
A lot of the women in this series seem to have issues, only Jules seems to be uncomplicated.

WitchesNStuff · 30/09/2020 13:15

I just can't believe that all the questions they ask them re sex during the auditions that they wouldn't have known something about Lauren and her swinging/dom tendancies. If they didn't then she was completely manipulative and knew exactly what she was doing.

Obviously it's heavily edited, there is no way that Bronson and Ines only saw each other so briefly after the 1st commitment ceremony, I just don't buy that he is that stupid to think things were ok based on 2 brief meetings. This series is definitely edited like a soap opera in some ways

WitchesNStuff · 30/09/2020 13:16

The experts do some work with the couples later on but that is because it is desperately needed.

riotlady · 30/09/2020 16:29

Gosh you’re all so far ahead, Im only on the first dinner party!
Why is there so much focus on Elizabeth eating?! Feel like they’re trying to set her up as a Bridget Jones type, poor girl is going to have such a complex when she watches this back!

Nearly vommed when Baldy called Jess a “nice little girl”, ofc he goes for airheads 20 years younger than him, Heidi never had a chance. She deserves better anyway.

Egghead68 · 30/09/2020 16:33

Baldy has a horribly condescending attitude towards women. I find him unbearable.

OP posts:
MissMarplesHandbag · 30/09/2020 16:43

And the ‘ixperts’ don’t bloody well help when they deem Heidi to be the one with problem, which makes him even smugger.

To be fair, she had probably bored the arse off him when they had discussed her being there for “hours and hours” that day
WitchesNStuff · 30/09/2020 16:56

I am glad you have said that re Heidi and Mike, I thought it was me completely missing something, it is all put on her for 'pushing him away'.

MissMarplesHandbag · 30/09/2020 19:59

I’m now on Ep18.
No spoilers. But one word - Baby.
Wtf!

riotlady · 30/09/2020 20:21

Watching the first commitment ceremony and Tricia is really putting pressure on Mathew to say he’s had sex. Like go easy, he was in A and E with his anxiety a week ago!

GlummyMcGlummerson · 30/09/2020 21:29

Elizabeth's extensions are awful, I wish she'd embrace her natural hair length as she has a gorgeous face that can carry any hair style

I feel like everyone was more glamorous last season (5). Wonder what season 7 is like! I may skip ahead
Sunbird24 · 30/09/2020 22:00

@MissMarplesHandbag yep, I binge watched S6 on the BH weekend and that’s annoyed me ever since!
