The more I think about it the more I think EE did a really good job with Gray’s character. Part of the problem Chantelle had was that everybody (bar Mitch) likes him. Karen loves him, the square see him as a hero. It’s so important to show abusers as they are. They aren’t all knuckle dragging cavemen that’s everyone knows is a wrongun. They hide in plain sight. They’re funny, charming, intelligent... else why would their victims fall for them in the first place? Not to derail, but mine was quiet and thoughtful, a graphic designer. Hard working, conscientious, loved his mum...only behind closed doors did he scare me shitless, control me, hurt me. You’d never have guessed.

I just watched the episode again - i hadn't noticed previously that at the very end, the final image faded to black, and her wedding ring was the last thing we saw. Really nicely done 😔

I don't really understand the max and ian storyline as there was no actual cash. Max signed his share of the business over to ian. Ian doesn't need to give him money, he can just sign it back over

Yes was confused about this too. Max keeps saying “I want my money” but he didn’t give Ian money. All it takes from Ian is a signature to sign over half the restaurant. I get that it will mean Ian’s mortgage on the pub will be voided but that is of no concern to Max.

Why will it mean that Ian’s mortgage is voided? I’m not a home owner but surely as long as Ian makes the repayments it’s fine?

Actually, why does Ian have Max’s money? Surely if Ian technically bought max out, he should have given max money?

Well I assumed because the mortgage is secured by his full ownership of the restaurant. If he no longer owns the full restaurant then the mortgage is no longer secured.

Ian didn’t buy max out. Max just temporarily signed his half of the restaurant over to Ian so that Rainie couldn’t claim any of it in the divorce.

So means max will own part of the pub

Max & Ian didn’t sign anything saying Ian would give the money/restaurant back to Max so legally Max is screwed.

Unfortunately not. The restaurant is the security for the mortgage on the pub. All it means is that the mortgage company will take the restaurant if Ian defaults on his mortgage payments for the pub. It doesn’t give any ownership rights to max for the pub even if Ian does sign half back to him.
