Wow,just had chance to look at the score. It all went wrong for Diego, didn't it?

Fizzywinegum · 31/08/2020 21:41

The cycling teams do have strange names tobee - just watching a few fields and French villages is an improvement on cricket and football for me.

I didn’t think I would ever say this but I’m really missing the crowd at the US Open Sad

PrivateSpidey · 31/08/2020 21:45

Poor Diego - they showed him watching the Zverev match and he looked so sad Sad

Fizzywinegum · 31/08/2020 21:46

I’m not sure where the crowd noise is coming from - is it the virtual or real crowd? The virtual crowd look like the Who’s Who game Grin

Zverev is through

Raahh · 31/08/2020 21:46

Aww. Sad

Maybe he should have stuck to the rainbow coloured shirt.

Raahh · 31/08/2020 21:47

Well done to Sascha though. Although I wouldn't have minded if Kev had gone through. He had a rough time last week.

I'm afraid I'm a cricket fan and have been watching all the repeats of previous years games on Sky Sport BlushGrin

I do miss the annual question on 5 live sports extra's coverage of Jeff Tarango which is "what's your US Open snack order Jeff?" Seriously it's every year! Confused(it's a hot dog btw).

I've probably said it on here before but I was listening to the hoo hah when in 1995 Jeff Tarango got thrown out of Wimbledon tournament for swearing and trying to get the umpire removed and his wife later hitting the umpire while the was in hospital giving birth to dd. Grin

tobee · 31/08/2020 22:08

*while I was giving birth to dd.

PrivateSpidey · 31/08/2020 22:55

I so remember that Jeff Tarango incident!! That was quite an eventful Wimbledon iirc. Greg Rusedski's first Wimbledon representing GB?! (Or was that 94?)

They are still broadcasting the tournament on Five Live this year (not actually from NYC). I really like the radio commentary.

Jourdain11 · 31/08/2020 23:13

Was that also the year that Tim Henman got defaulted in the doubles?

Jourdain11 · 31/08/2020 23:13

@tobee

*while I was giving birth to dd.
I was wondering how the umpire had got to the hospital!!

Yes that was 95! They mentioned that incident a few times in commentary last week.
Fizzywinegum · 01/09/2020 07:51

I was thinking that I couldn’t remember Jeff Tarango’s wife being in labour when she was hitting the umpire Grin

Good win for Kyle - he’s got Djok next - come on Kyle!

PrivateSpidey · 01/09/2020 08:11

I see Isner is out. And Goffin won which I'm pleased about, good win v Opelka.

Coco Gauff is out as well.

Looking forward to seeing Andy later today.

kazzaD66 · 01/09/2020 09:20

Oh, I missed the Goffin and Isner results when I scrolled through earlier, so thanks for the prompt private Wink
I'm happy with both of those results Grin

Yes, looking forward to watching Andy and Dan later.
Hope Watson beats Konta but I don't think she will.

PrivateSpidey · 01/09/2020 09:34

Oops I forgot top player Dan Evans was in action today! He should win that one I think.

I agree about the women's, I don't think Heather will have enough to beat Jo as she's in good form atm... but you never know, sometimes when compatriots meet it can throw up some strange results... Maybe?!

Raahh · 01/09/2020 11:36

Morning all. Just been catching up the scores. Happy with the Isner result, and Goffin.
Djok won easily... we will gloss over that.

Konta is making herself about as popular as Novak, for different reasons. I bet she's fun to be in a bubble with. Or as she got herself her own house?

'Top Player' Dan. You know, against all my better judgement, I have warmed to him this year.

If he beats Djok at any point, I will be is biggest fan maybe that's pushing it.

I can't see Kyle coming close to beating Novak- although he had that good run of form the other year, he is just lacking something.

But then- I didn't expect Norrie to come back from 2 sets down against Diego yesterday, what do I know??

Shame about Coco Gauff- but she has time on her side that a lot of players who are missing this year don't really have.

PrivateSpidey · 01/09/2020 13:11

I reckon Kyle will give Novak a good game for a set and a bit, then Djok will just "go up a gear". I remember Edmund playing him at Wimbledon - 2018? Kyle did quite well iirc - 4 sets?? But Djok seems kind of unbeatable these days.

RBA could have a chance against him but I think they're on opposite sides of the draw.

Jourdain11 · 01/09/2020 13:18

Boring old Djokovic. He really seems to reckon that he is the great, wise elder statesman of tennis. He'll probably stand for election as President of Serbia when he retires.

I was pleased KiKi got through. First round against a wildcard is just the kind of match she is good at losing!

Another one hoping Watson beats Konta, but I would be surprised.

JaneJeffer · 01/09/2020 13:30

I love this photo of Sascha and Mischa

Aww, Sascha and Mischa, that's really sweet.

Fizzywinegum · 01/09/2020 13:38

They showed it live on the telly last night Jane - it was funny - Sascha looked up and his brother was there on the screen Smile

I hope that Konta is in a very small bubble (on her own!) I’ve never really liked her but tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but she’s really annoyed me recently!

The whole PTPA (I think that’s what it’s called Hmm) sounds like a bit of a political coup - they waited until the bug guns (Roger and Rafa) were out of the way and made a move to set up a separate Association - it’s all a bit too Lion King for my liking!

JaneJeffer · 01/09/2020 13:45

It's like the People's Front of Judea Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 01/09/2020 13:59

Yes, announcing the PTPA when Roger and Rafa are thousands of miles away, in the middle of a pandemic when people can't get together properly face to face to discuss it( zoom meetings don't cut it).

Very sneaky behaviour.
