Haha, ca. 2004 I was the ultimate Serena hater! I actually didn't like her game as well as her attitude... it was boring and I do think she's got more variety later in her career.

I think the lack of consistency with the women players in the issue, because we don't see them into the late stages often enough. I like Ash Barty, from what I've seen, and I am sorry she is not here. I also like KiKi Mladenovic, but she's soooooo inconsistent. She is playing today.

No, no Serena love from me either.
I do like Venus though, and hope we see her play - I have said before that the current sitution could see some players retire without fanfare, and I think it would be wrong for Venus to bow out unnoticed.

Of the current crop, I am a big Halep fan, and Barty. I also like Osaka, and hope her injury is not too bad. I would love to see Kvitova do well again.

It is a shame so many are missing.

Agree! I always thought it was very sad that Monica Seles faded out and retired when she was inactive. It would be a shame if the same were to happen for Venus.

It's such bad luck for Benoit, I hope he's ok. He's definitely a v entertaining player and character. I love a lot of the French players - Richard Gasquet has been one of my favourites for ages. Love watching him. On the women's side, yes Mladenovic can be absolutely brilliant at times - and I like Caroline Garcia as well.

I would love to see a real rivalry in women's tennis now - I think Osaka- Andreescu has potential but obviously Bianca isn't playing in NY.

They were talking about potential winners on the tennis Podcast, and saying on the women's side there are loads of people who could genuinely win it, whereas on the men's, they said Djok, Medvedev, Thiem and Tsitsipas. They sort of included Raonic as well but said whoever wins will surely have to beat Djok - come on Milos! Prove them wrong.

Can't believe they didn't include Millman in their shortlist - come on!!

Private I really am hoping for an upset or something to stop Djok. I feel like this is his for the taking- and it's not fair. Last year, he had experienced a bit of a dip going into the US- and Medvedev was on a roll/Rafa was playing well.

I think they should scrap the shot clock, with the extra time being taken with towels etc. It will take a while for players to get used to.
