I just love the fact that Sue has lockdown hair! hers is nearly (but not quite) as wild as mine!

Raahh · 29/06/2020 21:59

magi I did think it was great that she sat there, in the wind, hair all over the place- carrying on as normal. She is a true pro. And underrated. And probably paid less than half the blokes at the Beeb.

Hush, friends, hush!

Serious stuff here.

Recipe for Pimms!

(With thanks to Jane MacQuitty from some years ago)

One measure gin
One measure red vermouth
Half a measure orange curaco
One slice each of orange, lemon and cucumber.

Mix the first 3 ingredients together and pour into a tall glass or jug and chill well before adding the fruit.
Just before serving add ice cold lemonade or ginger ale.
Resist the temptation to empty the contents of your fruit bowl and herb garden into the jug: less is more with this classic gin sling.

I remember the first time I made this (about 1992?) My much loved, and sadly deceased, SIL was there & she asked if the measures should be spoons - put her right over that one!

Second time I made it my best mate was there with her DH & all our DC.

She & I got so carried away that we found the kids rattles, tied them on to our shoes & did Morris Dancer impressions for our DH's (who were not fans of that genre!)

Happy days.

Fizzywinegum · 29/06/2020 22:13

magi you make me laugh - can just imagine you and your friend being Morris Dancers Grin

That recipe sounds lethal!

Raahh · 29/06/2020 22:17

Grin magi

Morris dancing!Grin

That recipe sounds great.

OP posts:
magimedi · 29/06/2020 22:22

Fizzy It ain't lethal - as long as you don't drink too much of it!

I haven't made it for years as have no orange curaco - need to go foreign & to duty free - fat fucking chance!

PrivateSpidey · 29/06/2020 23:12

magi Grin
I love it!

JaneJeffer · 29/06/2020 23:40

PMSL magi Grin

I'm just watching Sue now. Her hair looks a lot better than mine!

kazzaD66 · 30/06/2020 09:02

I enjoyed the programme last night, although I got momentarily choked seeing Jana Novotna in the opening credits. I used to love her. Sad

Can't believe how young Tim looked - much younger than 21! He played some great pressure points there. I liked they were joking about how this match seemed to act as the template for many of his subsequent ones, in terms of stress, and I liked his banter with Mac about his members letter and playing doubles with Sue Grin Give him a break - he's a nice guy, he didn't ask for any Henman mania and he was so bad he only got to No4 in the world and was consistently in the top 10. Plus, from the panoramic shots of Wimbledon, it looks as if his car park is coming on a treat Grin

Raahh · 30/06/2020 09:26

kazza Grin

I think Tim will be busy this week - he will have to get the gazebo out of the shed, or build a temporary roof, if they are going to insist on having the programme outside. Grin.

Fizzywinegum · 30/06/2020 09:28

Good defence of Tim kazza Grin. He seems like a nice guy and I’m sure he didn’t want all the Henmania - I think the Tiger Tim
thing was a bit unfortunate - he’s the most un-Tiger like person I’ve ever seen!

Glad that the underground car park is coming on well.

I’ve done my weekly shopping already - I think it’s definitely getting less stressful - I think more people have got other places to go to now as well as the supermarket. I’m still spending a fortune though Hmm

magimedi · 30/06/2020 09:39

I was in Tesco at 7.45. Went early as it is pouring here (about time!) and did not want to queue in the wet. Haven't been to Tesco for ages & I know why. It's full of 'pickers' for on line orders & none of them do any social distancing or follow the one way system. Won't be going there again.

Thank heavens for tennis this afternoon - it's too wet to even contemplate a walk.

Raahh · 30/06/2020 09:45

Yes, the 'Tiger' name was not good Grin.

The Wimbledon wedsite are going with upsets/near missess of big champions/future stars, as their theme for their matches today

First up is the Steffi Graff /Lori McNeil match from 94, then Venus losing to Magdalena Grzybowska in the first round in 97, rounded off with Federer being pushed to 5 sets by Falla, in his first round in 2010- a match that is never ever mentioned by the BBC. In fact, I doubt many people even remember itGrin. I mean, he didn't lose, but it was a big scare at the time.

In fact, they seem to be focusing a lot on big scares/ losses. They featured the same Henman/Kafelnikov match yesterday (big win for Tim, as Kaf was the 5th seed), and showed Djok v Rochus, (also from 2010, where Djok was pushed to 5 sets). They also showed the Gauff/Williams match.

I'm not sure why they have taken the tactic to focus on the losses/near failures of some their big stars. Seems a bit odd.

PrivateSpidey · 30/06/2020 10:13

Perhaps those are just the most memorable matches from the early rounds?? - and as it goes on we'll see more classic encounters.

he didn't ask for any Henman mania
Too true, and I remember him being interviewed about it a few years ago, and he was talking about a newspaper headline something like "If you mess it up this time, we'll never forgive you". He sort of laughed it off when he was speaking about it but that sort of treatment must be so awful to have to deal with.

That's what I meant when I said I wished I had appreciated him more at the time, but the coverage was just too annoying! Not his fault of course as you say kazza.

Back in the present day Grin Kyrgios and Boris (BB) have been having an interesting chat on twitter!!

PrivateSpidey · 30/06/2020 10:15

I mean, there must be better early round matches than just upsets, but maybe nobody remembers then, if it was eg the world no50 v no80 or something.

Or am I just talking rubbish?!

Fizzywinegum · 30/06/2020 10:18

I know what you mean Spidey. What have Boris and Kyrgios been talking about on Twitter?

Fizzywinegum · 30/06/2020 11:12

Ok so Kyrgios has called BB a doughnut because he called Kyrgios a rat for snitching on Sascha for being in a nightclub - I still can’t believe that Kyrgios still seems to be the voice of reason in all this!

Raahh · 30/06/2020 11:21

Grin Bloody hell! it really is coming to something when Kyrgios is turning into the reasonable one.

Grin What is the world coming to??

OP posts:
Raahh · 30/06/2020 11:24

Private I know what you mean- I suppose the 'upsets' must seem more interesting than a first round against 2 qualifiers no-one has heard of, of, god forbid a replay of the Mahut-Isner match.

I mean, if they really wanted to fill the schedule, that would be one way of doing it. Grin.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 30/06/2020 11:31

I don't think we'll escape without seeing at least some of it!

Boris should just be glad that his own nightclub shenanigans remain secret as I'm sure there was plenty Grin

JaneJeffer · 30/06/2020 13:40

Come on Martina!

Raahh · 30/06/2020 13:44

They both look very nice.

No garish splodgy patterns.

Or tutus.

OP posts:
Raahh · 30/06/2020 13:45

And we can see from Martina's collar, that Roger was not the first to go for a gold initial Grin.

OP posts:
Raahh · 30/06/2020 13:55

I'm a bit confused, because I thought the BBC rewind coverage would be doing what Wimbledon is doing, and showing matches that follow each round across the fortnight but today we have skipped straight to 2 two finals Confused.

Oh I say! Love Dan.

Fizzywinegum · 30/06/2020 14:01

It does all seem very nice and sedate - I like Chrissie’s dress and hair - I think I tried to have mine like that but it didn’t work!

I’m home alone - it’s lovely - although my friend is popping round to sit in the garden later on - hope the rain holds off Hmm
