I am 'alone' but only because dd2 is not well, and is in bed. Dh is in bed because he is still suffering the after effects of his tooth removal, and dd1 rarely leaves her room (she did have an online maths lesson earlier).

Ds is at work.

So it's just the dog and me for now. Which is nice.

I was hoping dh would be going out to football training later, but it's not on this week. not that I'm desperate for people to leave me in peace or anything

It was a good match, they had/have a great friendship, Chrissie and Martina.

I missed the end Confused!

Christie was on the Tennis Podcast a few weeks ago - she was really interesting - I think she and Martina are still friends. She was talking about how much in love she was with John Lloyd during one tournament and didn’t care if she won or lost! This caused great amusement on the podcast Grin

JaneJeffer · 30/06/2020 15:23

I recorded for later but I found the commentary very soporific and it's close here today so I may nod off if I watch it!

Raahh · 30/06/2020 15:24

Oh- Gavin is watching the Davenport/Venus Williams final. This was 2005.

Maybe he is a bit of a tennis fan.

Not convinced by Gwen thoughGrin.

Ah yes Grin

I love Venus unlike her sister.

Raahh · 30/06/2020 15:44

Jane I like Venus. I love how how she plays.

I am not a Serena fan.

Raahh · 30/06/2020 15:48

I seem to remember this being the longest women's final.

OP posts:
Raahh · 30/06/2020 15:52

That's another thing about this current situation, will it rob us of seeing Venus play again? I hope not. She lost to Coco Gauff in Melbourne- I'm sure she would have planned to play again this year. She was 40 a couple of weeks ago- it would be sad if she just quietly retires without playing again.

OP posts:
Raahh · 30/06/2020 15:53

This is also a refreshingly quiet match by modern standards- no grunting. Grin.

JaneJeffer · 30/06/2020 16:03

Did Venus knock Shrieky out that year?

Raahh · 30/06/2020 16:05

Jane I think she did.

Thank goodness.

That was such a good match (Lindsay v Venus I mean).

The Podcast was good about the Evert-Navratilova final wasn't it Fizzy, and their rivalry. Also the allure of John Lloyd!

That's a good point about Venus Raahh, I hope she doesn't retire. I keep pondering on possible player retirements over this lockdown. I'm hoping there won't be any - it won't have been a usual gruelling season with possible injuries etc will it, so they can sort of "preserve" themselves?! Hopefully anyway.

magimedi · 30/06/2020 17:39

DH made the fascinating point, in the Martina?Chris match, about how very different the pattern of wear of the grass was. So worn i nthe service boxes & much less behind the base line.

Wasn't the commentary boring in that match? Bring on AC - all is forgiven Grin.

Raahh · 30/06/2020 17:45

magi the decline in serve/volley really had affected the way the courts look by the end of the tournament.

The commentary was dull. Not a mention of a butterfly. Or beards.

Did they say what would be featured on the programme tonight?

I have a choice- Wimbledon highlights of matches I have already seen.
Or Holby. Grin.

PrivateSpidey · 30/06/2020 20:00

Raahh they did, but I can't remember Confused

What with the afternoon programme, the Sue show, and the podcast also doing Wimbledon Re-lived, the potential for confusion is high Grin

Raahh · 30/06/2020 20:01

Annabel is looking lovely.

Raahh · 30/06/2020 20:02

I'm easily confused Grin.

Ahh, they are showing the Steffi upset too.

The Lori McNeil match?? I remember watching that, it was a real shock result.

I'm just waiting for an episode of SpongeBob to finish before I can tune in Hmm

Raahh · 30/06/2020 20:14

It was a shock result- the first time the defending champion had lost in the first round.

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 30/06/2020 20:15

Wow what a shot to win it with, brilliant.

Raahh · 30/06/2020 20:16

Classy as ever, though, Steffi waited for Lori and walked off with her. Which I loved to see.

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 30/06/2020 20:16

SpongeBob has finished Grin
