I have had quite a bit of the Aldi Fake Pimms this week, won't be as nice when it's rainingGrin.

They are suitably 'socially distanced' Spidey, it's not the same as when Sue is chatting to Boris courtside, and they are all bunched together. Grin. It's like she is on her own.

Tim's a lovely player to watch. I wish I'd appreciated him more when he was playing, but I was too irritated by ""Henmania" Hmm

Raahh · 29/06/2020 20:44

I never appreciated him, really, because I have never been a 'fan of the Brit, just because'. Plus I am used to the BBC bigging up the Brits after they win a match. And then they never win again.

He seems like a nice bloke, but definitely looks more like a bank clerk than a sports man.

I am cross they are showing this. But to be honest, Rafa was not 100% fit- he got through RG on painkillers for his knee, and then after this tournament would go off and have knee surgery, (as well as have a wisdon tooth removed, iircGrin) missing the Olympics (which he had been desperate to play). It would be early 2013 before he would come back. And that is one of his best years .

(We will gloss over losing to Dustin Brown at Wimbledon).

Of course this was 2013 (told you I was confused today).

And 2015 he lost to Dustin.

Yes surely there are more quality/classic first round matches than this in the archive?

Raahh · 29/06/2020 20:47

I need to stay off the Pimms. Grin.

All Wimbledons are blurring into one. (Bit like the days in lockdown).

PrivateSpidey · 29/06/2020 20:48

Omg I love Arthur Ashe.

Raahh · 29/06/2020 20:48

Spidey I am quite sure there are.

But this Connor/Ashe throw back is nice to see.

His book is brilliant if anyone is looking for any lockdown reading.

Raahh · 29/06/2020 20:49

He was lovely. And such a tragic end. Only a few months older than I am now when he died. Sad

OP posts:
Raahh · 29/06/2020 20:50

I might have to track that down, Spidey.

Oh, second mention for the Adria tour.

Is Sue not a Djok fan?

we know who she likes

The fact the US open/RG will be in different time zones, and very different climates, is a bit of an issue, I think. More so than the Covid issue.

I was reading that in terms of rankings, Murray in particular thinks players should not be penalised if they choose one over the other, and points should be defended over 2 years rather than 1.

Of course, Federer would benefit from that- even though he had no plans to play at all.

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 29/06/2020 20:59

Yes it's not far off really, 6 weeks until the US Open is supposed to take place Shock

PrivateSpidey · 29/06/2020 20:59

Comeback Grin

Do it, Mac!!

PrivateSpidey · 29/06/2020 21:06

I agree with Andy there about the rankings/Slams. If players choose not to travel that should be up to them under the circs, also what if they can't travel for whatever reason.

Fizzywinegum · 29/06/2020 21:11

Are they going to show every match where Rafa loses? Hmm

It was nice to see Baby Tim and he was a lovely player - he was a bit overhyped though - I suppose we were just desperate for him to win Wimbledon. He does seem to be turning into his Dad!

Love Mac - must be hard being locked down in Malibu Smile

Raahh · 29/06/2020 21:20

I think the schedule from the 14th August, is too much. there is no gap between the end of the US open, and the start of Madrid. Then Rome, then RG. I can definitely see players choosing either the US or Europe, to manage both will be impossible for the players who are likely to be the latter stages.

At least there is the opportunity to get practice in before the US open (at Washington/Cincy- moved to NY).

It's all a bit confusing.

And there is still the possibilty that there could be an increase in cases, and it will all be scrapped.

OP posts:
Raahh · 29/06/2020 21:23

Fizzy maybe that's why they showed the 2008 match this afternoon. It might be a Rafa win, but it showed Roger in a good light, as it was a classic match.

I have no doubt the 2014 Kyrgios match will get a mention.

OP posts:
Raahh · 29/06/2020 21:31

There was deinitely an over hyped element to the Henmania- he was good, but he wasn't great- but yes, the British press were just desperate for a player that could string more than 2/3 matches together Grin.

There had been so many years, watching Jeremy Bates fail to make the second week.Grin.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 29/06/2020 21:32

The annoying thing was that Darcis didn’t even play in the next round!

The August/September schedule does look very congested - not sure if it will all work out.

Raahh · 29/06/2020 21:39

Fizzy that was annoying- and there is a pattern that none of the low ranked players who beat him, won their next matches. Rosol, Darcis, Brown, Kyrgios , Muller - though I don't count that as an upset as it was a 4th round match.

I am very familiar with the List Grin.

Fizzywinegum · 29/06/2020 21:45

Oh yes The List - Sue loves the list!
