Yes I think so - didn't one of the French players say they would refuse to play in the final if they made it (and if France also got through)?? I can't remember who it was now.

On the Beeb website you can vote for your favourite finals of all time and Sue will discuss them this weekend. I voted men's 2001 and women's 98 when novotna won. I don't think either of them were actually great tennis to be fair, but more great occasions.

I listened to the Podcast on the 2001 men's final this morning. They interviewed Pat Rafter - what a lovely guy. He was so magnanimous about it all but I felt a bit heartbroken for him tbh Sad

I'd also forgotten he didn't come back to Wimbledon again after that. I knew Goran didn't defend his title in 2002 because he was injured, but he did play in 2003, but Rafter retired after 2001.

I always liked Pat. He just seemed really humble. Kyrgios didn't get on with him, (claimed the 'nice guy' thing was an act) but he doesn't get on with anyone Grin.

There's a thread in active hating on nice people and when you see the attention Kyrgios gets for being the opposite of nice it makes you wonder!

Raahh · 08/07/2020 12:29

Jane I know!

But he is now The Voice of Reason.

Grin Why did Kyrgios say that? Is it a Davis Cup thing (when Pat was the Australian DC team captain)?

Anyway I won't hear a word against Pat ("Sorry mate" Grin)!!

Raahh · 08/07/2020 13:40

Yes, it was when he was DC captain I think Grin.

I don't think Pat was too scarred by Dick's comments Grin.

I haven’t listened to that one yet Spidey - I don’t think Kyrgios will be the voice of reason for long! He’ll soon be back being a dick!

Just watched a bit of Wimbledon from last night - not sure about Heather’s wet look leather legging things Hmm. Were your comments more bitchy than that magi? Grin

Raahh · 08/07/2020 14:33

Yes, that would be nice. Although, I realise we are running out of days now!

Yes. Anxiety is a bitch.

JaneJeffer · 08/07/2020 15:05

So much for the nice weather we were promised. I've just put the heating on.

Raahh · 08/07/2020 15:14

Heating! Shock Oh don't! I have got a headache because it is quite muggy here.

It's all coming back to me now, how Steffi picked up a gear, and Jana seemed to unravel.

I didn't like how they had written Jana off before the match had even ended though.

OP posts:
Raahh · 08/07/2020 15:45

And that's itSad.

I mean, I love Steffi. But poor Jana.

Sorry, but that's a horrible jacket, Steffi- worthy of Grigor.

I'm so glad she did eventually win.
