I’m not sure if there is a thread already, please direct me to it if there is!

It’s summer which means its the time of year I start musing about which celebs might be up for the glitter ball trophy this year! I was a bit worried we might not be getting a series this year but a quick google reassured me plans are in place.

So it looks like they are hoping for bubbles between the stars and professionals families, possibly weekly CV testing and temp checks. Hair, make up and costume to be done with PPE. Sounds like they could put on a fairly similar show to normal. No audience though, which will be weird. And I guess no gathering of contestants for the scores, which will be weird. Will the whole thing lack atmosphere?

Clara Amfo officially announced now, so officially have 5 names, so nearly half way through the announcements.

I hope there's one or two big surprises left.

How did I not realise that Bruno was doing a return flight to the states every week so so long?

I don't think there's been any, there's been very little official info up till now with the announcements. I don't even think the celebs have started training, I think it's rumoured to start in October.

Nicola Adams now officially announced, so that's 3 more announced this morning and it's not even 9am !

Well not too exciting. Where was BB? I of course know his face now (and his lot of no hair ) dsis used to say when anyone was approaching baldness. I like him.

CQ has had such a makeover I didn't recognise her at first, a definite ringer ,did anyone notice those slippered first foot positions and points before she was actually introduced? She is a very obvious dancer. Good that it's been made public. She can be fun but DD1 has worked with her and... ahem!

I think they will put Nicola with Karen. She choreographs interesting routines.

Katya has allegedly been very keen to be part of the first same-sex couple on Strictly so Nicola might end up with her - Karen is good though (and the longest serving female professional dancer currently).

I like Nicola - I don't know a lot about boxing though, but whenever I've seen her on the TV she's very eloquent and puts her point across well. I just hope she can dance!

Is there rumours about her being difficult too? My mum made a comment saying she will be difficult to be partnered with so made me wonder if she was well known for being difficult?

For the previous poster above, Baron Biscuits is Jamie Lang, who is heir to McVitites! Hence the name. I'd be glad to see him take part since he missed out last year.

Thursday Bruno and Len used to fly back and forth to do both the UK and US shows. I am wondering if it's Len's last year under contract for the US version, perhaps he had three years left to go.

So far disappointingly Z list apart from CQ and NA. I thought we might get some proper slebs as everyone is out of work and there will be no pantos. I hope Jamie Laing comes back (do like Baron Biscuits nn). I want Bill Bailey just for the sarcasm

I think maybe some of the celebs. or their partners, are frightened of the strictly curse, if they're in solid relationships (or they think they are!)

Nicola has indicated that she’ll be “leading” a shorter female pro. Either Janette or Katya would give her scope for some reasonably impressive lifts. Janette would perhaps be a safer, more sexless choice from the BBC’s POV, but I’d love to see what Katya could do. Boxers have traditionally been bloody awful dancers on Strictly but Nicola seems charismatic and likeable and I hope she does well.

From a feminist perspective I’m glad they had a female partnership as the “first” - the discourse about single sex partnerships on Strictly seems to have been completely dominated by talk about gay men in recent years although female partnerships have always been a big part of grass roots ballroom. However I’m interested to see a partnership with two men as well, as long as they don’t cast anyone as annoying as H.

I don't know if I'm pleased or not about the same-sex partnership. If it's done well, it'll be great, and really nice for dancers in all girls/ladies partnerships to see.

I'll have to wait and see how they actually dance! Girl/girl Latin can look really interesting and different because it doesn't rely on one partner being stronger than the other. There's usually a lot of really sharp and together side-by-side and mirroring work.

If she just "danced like a man" (for want of a better description!) I think it's a bit of a missed opportunity.

I agree that some distinctive female-female partnership-of-equals work would be good to see as the backbone of their dancing, but having a partner who Nicola can lift as well would give them some additional tools in their repertoire.

I don't think it would matter too much. Janette might be a bit short actually, unless Nicola didn't wear heels.

Men typically have longer torso to leg ratio than girls, so you want men about 6" taller — that gives you 3 inches for the heels, and puts your hips in line. For girls, your hips will generally be roughly in line if you're about the same height.

That's true Evil (or would you prefer Ringah?).

Hopefully they'll hit a nice balance between 'proper' dancing and flashy bits. Not a problem that's unique to f/f couples on Strictly.
