Strictly 2020, Bubbles and no Bruno?

I’m not sure if there is a thread already, please direct me to it if there is!

It’s summer which means its the time of year I start musing about which celebs might be up for the glitter ball trophy this year! I was a bit worried we might not be getting a series this year but a quick google reassured me plans are in place.

So it looks like they are hoping for bubbles between the stars and professionals families, possibly weekly CV testing and temp checks. Hair, make up and costume to be done with PPE. Sounds like they could put on a fairly similar show to normal. No audience though, which will be weird. And I guess no gathering of contestants for the scores, which will be weird. Will the whole thing lack atmosphere?

Walkingtheplank · 13/09/2020 15:05

And as that's a 4 part series, it would indicate that 'proper' Strictly wont start until 17th October 😥

Walkingtheplank · 13/09/2020 15:06

Oops, just seen that someone else posted first - funny that we looked at the same time!

ppeatfruit · 13/09/2020 15:13

Great, thanks Pears and Walking Yaay !!!! Glitterball Grin !!!!!

Pearsapiece · 13/09/2020 16:02

Haha @walkingtheplank great minds! We must both have had strictly vibes!

gingercat02 · 13/09/2020 18:15

Definitely an October start date and no Blackpool this year

Nicetableinnit · 14/09/2020 16:32

'If she just "danced like a man" (for want of a better description!) I think it's a bit of a missed opportunity.'

Don't worry us gays have been dancing together for aeons without anyone having to be the 'man' . You just don't normally get to see it...

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 14/09/2020 17:54

Nicetable, I've danced in a girl/girl partnership myself!

I've also seen all girls/ladies sections at a tonne of comps, and watched bits of the Pink Jukebox online last year (I knew a couple of people competing in it), so have seen plenty of same-sex couples dancing.

My point was that good same-sex couples don't just replace the man with the lady or vice versa and do exactly the same choreography. They typically do a lot more side-by-side and mirrored work, and I'd like to see that from Nicola and her partner.

TakeItSIeazy · 15/09/2020 01:49

I know what you mean polkadots - you very kindly posted some routines on a discussion about same sex competitive dancing iirc. There was lots of mirroring and similar outfits.
I personally think Nicola and Oti would have knocked that style out the park and then some.
Nicola has said she will probably lead and wear suits though so unless they try and do an Anneka falling in love with glitter and dresses journey arc on her then I am not sure the swapping of leading or following or the competitive style of side-by-side will happen unless they are told to do the latter in the earlier stages to stop Granny hyperventilating and then add in some filthy tango or sexy rumba later to show how evolved we have all become so we can applaud our tolerance and their chemistry Hmm That comment is nothing about Nic but rather the journey bollocks production do. It kind of happened that way with the same sex male couple in Italy.
I would rather they unapologetically did a smouldering tango week one rather than a slow-build but it would also be refreshing if they did the mirroring all the way through to highlight womens' competitive same sex dancing and do not go the way of the male gaze, which happened a little in week one with the Israel couple a decade ago (their opening number was a weird hybrid of a Mandy Moore SYTYCD power struggle dance with table but to an upbeat tempo wearing matching black bras and transparent tops. Also big height difference marred their later quickstep).
I had really hoped for a partner with Karen who would lead one week, follow the next or a mirroring duo - but too much side-to-side whilst great for young women competing watching might be less empowering for young lesbians if the routines become asexual - it is a really tricky balance which Karen would have nailed.
Janette cannot choreo well and will make it all about Nic lifting her or relying on the same salsa schtick and Katya - who wants Nic, they all do, she has a great chance of being in the final if not winning the whole thing - Katya will make it all about her.
Oti - having done mirroring with her mentees in the trio dance of TGD - would have done the side-by-side perfectly. She also could have choreoed for Nic to lead like a powerhouse even if Oti was secretly leading. Following negative comments about her being placed with Anthony though - cannot remember if it was him who complained or not - the production might avoid an all-black couple, which is also a shame and a missed opportunity. Oti is due a duffer though and should really partner Baron von Biscuits.

Anyway a lovely interview with Nicola here and I really hope she does well. We will be voting for her chez Sleazy (this is a Good Place reference but I need a new Strictly name for Saturday). I want something dreamy like polkadots. Nicola mentions not being a dress person - I think she will look awesome in a suit but would dazzle even if wearing a bin bag, she has a million dollar smile.

TakeItSIeazy · 15/09/2020 02:13

Not saying there with role swapping that gender presentation fluidity or androgyny is the way to go either - competitive same sex dancing is double the glitter iirc - but at the end of the day it should be about making a contestant feel good in their own skin and have a good time. So if Nic prefers to lead and wear a suit, she should.

SoupDragon · 15/09/2020 07:42

she has a great chance of being in the final if not winning the whole thing

I think there is an equal chance she will be too stiff and go out in the early weeks.

BdumTish · 15/09/2020 08:31

Do you think soupy? Dragon
I thought with the fact that she has stamina, strong work ethic, can train for hours and is small/light on her feet and isn't a ringah she'd be a favourite. That said, Joe and Anthony weren't but his shoulder was buggered. Alex took a while to hit her stride. James was [facepalm].
I will be surprised if she goes out early but each year I say music and theme being hobbled by production has a lot to do with it.

SoupDragon · 15/09/2020 08:50

It's more whether she's "sacrificed" flexibility for strength with her boxing.

ppeatfruit · 15/09/2020 08:51

That said, it may depend on whether Katya and Nic get on. There could be a clash of the titans. (I didn't read the guardian link) T'will be very interesting to see Grin

SoupDragon · 15/09/2020 08:52

I just think it's impossible to say without having seen her dance at all. I'm waiting for the first week before making my guesses.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/09/2020 12:04

She's a bit older than I thought. Not in a good/bad way, just surprised. I thought she was in her late twenties for some reason.

I think I'll wait and see too, I agree the training hours should be fine for her, but I don't take it for granted that sportspeople will be good after Victoria Pendleton! She sounded brilliant on paper and then really struggled.

SoupDragon · 15/09/2020 12:47

I thought she was in her 20s too!

Waves to polkadots and does a twirl. Not as dreamy as your username which I adore but it will do.
Apologies for Daily Mail link but the guff from Neil's new partner/wife/whatever she may be is...quite something!

SequinsandStiIettos · 15/09/2020 13:27

DWTS dances are now up. Carole Baskin above...I haven't seen such a walked through stompy Paso since lovely Reverend Richard Coles! Grin

ppeatfruit · 15/09/2020 13:30

Oh Sequins I am unable to go on a DM link Grin pretty please give me a precis!!!!!

SequinsandStiIettos · 15/09/2020 13:37

Hang on a sec. I'll copy and paste.

'With you, I believe in everything, in love at first sight, in luck, in destiny, but above all I believe in your sweet and pure love.

How crazy, but how nice to have found my love, both vibrating in the same tunes, so strong and so pure, that Cupid stopped when he saw us go by, we created music and fire just by looking at each other and you made me feel safe while sliding my hands through your red hair.

'Love is blind, you may physically fit in with anyone, but the soul does not smile or vibrate with anyone, it is true that beauty attracts, but when one day you write his name to fill the gaps in the notebook without realising it, that's feeling.

'Thank you for your beautiful, free and sensible love and I could tell you that any place is my home, only if you are the one who opens the door ♥ ️ Love u Husband.'

SequinsandStiIettos · 15/09/2020 13:46

It is probably because I am a deeply cynical, decrepit old crone who last got sweaty by channelling Bey this morning to make the kids laugh but by word...tis a bit intense.

SequinsandStiIettos · 15/09/2020 14:03

Sorry last one (I know it's Strictly not a DWTS thread) but it made me laugh.
Nelly danced to...Nelly.

Gleb is still Gleb but I refuse to post a tango when it is danced to...an up-tempo number by Pink. Nice to see Artem and Sharna back.
Nev was smiley throughout his foxtrot bless...

mogloveseggs · 15/09/2020 16:29

Justine is my fave on dwts
There's some decent dancers on there
