As opposed to Stan, who said he'd just have to adapt to whatever happens next on the tennis circuit, because that's what he's always done. Bear

PrivateSpidey · 06/06/2020 20:02

Grin brilliant, I'm loving Inspector Wawrinka already. I can just imagine the title sequence: Stan in an overcoat staring broodingly out over Lake Geneva, before another hard day of solving crime and eating fondue Grin

I think this should be a real series.

Raahh · 06/06/2020 20:03

Djok's strange.

Well, we won't miss him.

I don't think the US Open is viable purely because, well, it's the US- and the cases of Covid in New York have been awful.

I can't see any tennis happening in any big way before Melbourne.
I'd like to be wrong- I mean, Europe might be safer, and RG may go ahead in September, but I am not really convinced.

Fizzywinegum · 06/06/2020 20:06

We definitely need Inspector Stan with his wine and fondue!

Enid can join in as well Grin

Raahh · 06/06/2020 20:06

Private I am definitely seeing Stan as a scruffy Columbo type Inspector. Who occasionally lets us see his Dad bod. (only after the watershed).

There will be cows, in the opening sequence.

Yup. Inspector Wawrinka is a real thing. Grin.

JaneJeffer · 06/06/2020 20:07

Because the US Open is all about Djok let's cancel the whole thing Hmm

Enid probably does his washing.

Not his ironing. No-one does his ironing. Grin

(Sorry in advance if I post this twice. App playing up again.)

Yes kazza their two comments couldn't be more different could they??

I think I prefer Stan's approach. Also there are plenty of players who travel without a massive entourage Hmm

Still I suppose if it's what you're used to...

Raahh · 06/06/2020 20:17

I saw a video of Rafa earlier, and he was being asked if he was thinking about the fact he should be at RG now- and his answer was much the same. He was happy doing what he was doing, training a bit, but not too much, happy that his family was safe, and not really thinking too far ahead.

I wonder if Djok will end up playing anywhere at all after this- he strikes me as such a conspiracy theorist, the gurus that seem to rule his life will probably tell him not to leave his house. If we are lucky.

magimedi · 06/06/2020 21:51

Surely DI Stan is most like the original Van der Valk?

And here are some (sneaky) pics of Rafa's new toy:

Nice boat.

Raahh · 06/06/2020 21:56

Most people are happy with just a card...

Raahh · 06/06/2020 21:57

The original Van Der Valk was quite Stan-ish, Magi.

Now, I will have the theme tune in my head all night. Again. Grin

JaneJeffer · 06/06/2020 22:08

Xisca has great legs Grin

Fizzywinegum · 06/06/2020 22:16

Now I’m envious about Rafa’s boat on lots of levels (as well as Xisca’s legs!). DH always wanted a boat - he looks at them longingly whenever we go on holiday!

I did think Van der Valk when they were talking about Stan being a detective - or Columbo Grin

JaneJeffer · 06/06/2020 22:24

I definitely thought Columbo Grin

Definitely Columbo - it's the rumpled look Grin And they're both fairly unassuming - looking at them, criminals think they can run rings around Columbo and some might not think that Stan could win 3 Grand Slams, until he blows them off court Grin

Djok was more likeable in 1991......Wink

Raahh · 07/06/2020 13:43

Djok was definitely more likeable as a child Grin

Eurosport is showing the 2012 (?) final I think. Up to the 4th set. Since I know Rafa has never been taken to 5 sets in a final (and only ever been taken to 5 sets twice at RG), it's nice knowing how this will pan out.

I'd forgotten that 2012 was quite rainy. Went over to the Monday, I think- I did think at one point Djok was going to get back into the match.

It is much less stressful watching, knowing the result. Not stair sitting required.

But I'd much rather be watching the real thingSad.

Raahh · 07/06/2020 13:45

(If I didn't know the result, this would actually be a very tense set- Rafa got very stressed by the conditions, and was out played until they abandonned play).

Raahh · 07/06/2020 13:54

ooh, play suspended. Djok has done his 'sprint off court before anyone stops me' thing. Uncle Tony not happy.

Grin.

Raahh · 07/06/2020 14:32

The weather wasn't much better on the Monday really.

Oh- the sun came out (just before the endGrin).

Raahh · 07/06/2020 14:48

Hurrah! Won it courtesy of a double fault.

It was his 7th title, by the age of 26, and they have jsut said 'how many more'?

Well...

Grin
