I know Raahh Sad I saw a Nike summer kit online somewhere - clashing stripes and colours - we would have enjoyed discussing it Grin

Jane thanks for the public service announcement about All Creatures Great and Small Flowers Peter Davison in knitwear escapist TV is just what I need.

PrivateSpidey · 26/05/2020 15:27

PS lockdown has definitely generated some unusual behaviour in our house - DH recorded some tennis for me the other day Shock Normally he tries to avoid it but I think he feels sorry for me Grin

Anyway it was the Rafa v Delpo 2018 RG semi final, where Delpo had loads of chances in the first set, but couldn't win it, then Rafa just ran away with the next two. It was Rafa's teal blue kit era - and party shorts Grin

He's recorded Rafa v Murray as well (not sure which year?) but I haven't watched that yet...

Fizzywinegum · 26/05/2020 16:24

Ooh I liked Rafa’s party shorts Spidey Grin

I’m going to listen to the podcast about the 1984 RG final when Lendl beat McEnroe - Mac still holds a grudge about that one!

I had a sweatshirt in the same design as Lendl’s kit at the time - it was white with blue triangles on it. As a very unsporty teen I only wore it because I was such a big Lendl fan!

PrivateSpidey · 26/05/2020 16:36

I was just listening to it this morning Fizzy - a good listen for any Lendl fangirls out there Grin

They were talking about Mac holding a grudge about it, and how in the end Lendl ended up with one more Slam than him Shock and it was kind of a career changing match for both of them etc. It was really good.

Today they're doing Evert v Navratilova from 1985 - should be good as well.

Fizzywinegum · 26/05/2020 17:26

I’ve just listened to it now Spidey it was really interesting. Even as a Lendl fangirl I’d not realised that he won one more slam than Mac! I did think it was a bit one sided though - it was all about Mac - Lendl did win the match!

Looking forward to listening to the other ones - I’ve not watched any of the matches yet though.

PrivateSpidey · 26/05/2020 18:21

Fizzy I know! They barely mentioned Lendl at all! I ended up feeling really sorry for Mac - even though he'd already won 5 slams by that point, he wasn't exactly an underdog was he!

Fizzywinegum · 27/05/2020 15:21

Sorry Spidey just catching up! Yes I think Lendl should have had a bit more of a mention - it was a real breakthrough for him finally winning a GS. I remember reading Mac’s autobiography and the pain at that loss still seemed very raw Sad

I went to the garden centre earlier - just for the novelty factor I think. It was decimated - hardly any plants and no compost - I think compost is going to be the new flour!

Hope everyone is having a good day - it’s
scorchio here Smile

JaneJeffer · 27/05/2020 17:50

I think I'm on a bit of a corona downer the last couple of days. I've been keeping busy and I even made buns today and ate too many but I still feel pissed off. A little bird has just crashed into the window and I ran out to rescue him before the dog got him but he's a goner anyway Sad

Jane It's all a bit too much now, isn't it? I need to stop watching the news, but it's like picking a scabGrin.
It's lovely weather, and I am seeing pictures all over FB of people with pools in the gardens. And bars (thanks sis). We had our garden, such as it was, concreted over in October as we needed the parking space.

We do have a paddling pool. We won a huge one at school, years ago. It's in a box in the garden, waiting to go to the tip, as we have nowhere to put it- and don't have a hose pipe to fill it. Grin.

I bought vodka from Aldi though. So not a totally wasted day.

JaneJeffer · 27/05/2020 18:06

You should put it on eBay Raahh.

OP posts:
Raahh · 27/05/2020 18:31

We would have done, but it is so heavy, it would need collecting. Then we stuck it in a cupboard, and forgot it was there. We took it out, because we needed the space, and then lockdown happened.

My dog keeps finding old toys he had half buried out side. Nice. Most of them are Christmas themed, which is a bit random. Father Christmas definitely needs a bath. We have a reindeer called Roger (the dcs named itGrin).

PrivateSpidey · 27/05/2020 18:31

Raahh there is a massive paddling pool shortage atm! Everyone's trying to get them apparently. I agree with Jane about eBay.

I also went to a garden centre today Fizzy - yet more telepathic tennis thread activity!! Shock

It was the same story with hardly any plants left!! I planted loads of seeds a while ago - they have started growing but they look pretty pathetic tbh. Arghhh!

I see the LTA has arranged a tournament for July/Aug with GB's top players apparently. So that'll be something. (Tries to sound enthusiastic. I mean, it will be good to see tennis, but I just want to petulantly say "Yes but it's not RG/Wimbledon, is it?" Arghhh!!)

PrivateSpidey · 27/05/2020 18:34

Oh sorry x-post about eBay!

Yes I never thought of the postage thing. I remember selling some of DS' old toys on there ages ago - they weren't heavy but they were a bugger to post, and I ended up wishing I hadn't bothered!!

Raahh · 27/05/2020 18:39

I moaned to dh earlier that I should be watching tennis, not shopping in Aldi. It's just depressing.

I had planned to re- donate to the pool to this year's school summer raffle (I figured enough years had passed for whoever who had donated it, to have forgotten). That obviously won't be happening now. Sad.

Fizzywinegum · 27/05/2020 20:10

Sorry about the corona downers - it is hard isn’t it? I phoned my DM earlier and she just seemed utterly fed up - I didn’t really know what to say to her Sad

I think I went to the garden centre for a bit of normality but it wasn’t very normal.

I’m still reliving the French Opens of the past - today’s was Michael Chang winning against Stefan Edberg - I’d never really like Chang (probably because he beat Lendl!) but they interviewed him and he sounded like quite a nice chap Smile

It’s Repair Shop tonight - I think the old man with the films will make me cry.

Roger the Reindeer Grin. Enjoy the vodka Raahh

Raahh · 27/05/2020 20:15

Fizzy I have said many times, that I have still not forgiven Chang for beating Stefan. Grudgy-McGrudgy, that's me.

Grin
Raahh · 27/05/2020 20:18

I'm watching 'Repair Shop'- reminds me of my grandpa, who had loads of gadgets, and a cine camera, and took a lot of films of me and my sister. I hated watching them at the time- but I would do anything to be able to see them now.

I am not even going to pretend I will stay awake for Sewing Bee Grin.

Raahh · 27/05/2020 20:33

Aww, I'm so glad they fixed the camera. Although I don't think I have ever watched one where they have gone 'nah, sorry, it's buggered, mate'.

Grin.

Raahh · 27/05/2020 20:37

Have we mentioned on here that Judy Murray is doing Celebrity Masterchef? Grin. I hope she's a better cook than she is a dancer. Grin.

Fizzywinegum · 27/05/2020 20:39

I felt a bit sorry for Michael Chang after also holding a grudge against him all these years!

He was quite open, saying that Lendl had always been friendly with him (although they’d never talked about that match!), He talked about underarm serves (before you know who), Tianamen Square, the fact that he was booed by the crowd because he’d talked about his religious views - it was really interesting.

I’ll hopefully be able to stay up for Sewing Bee - not sure what the theme is this week - hope it’s not too smutty this time Grin

Raahh · 27/05/2020 20:44

I remember the Tainanmen square thing - it must have been really difficult for him.

At least he did have a proper reason for the under arm serve - unlike He Who Shall not Be Named - he's just a Dick. Grin.

I can't remember the theme for Sewing Bee either- I vaguely think it might be something to do with laundry bags and charity shops!

JaneJeffer · 27/05/2020 20:55

Wow that painting is amazing!

OP posts:
Raahh · 27/05/2020 20:57

It is Jane- incredible to be able to something like that.

Raahh · 27/05/2020 20:59

I wish someone would come and paint my house. Whilst I am asleep. Without upsetting the dog.

Thanks.

JaneJeffer · 27/05/2020 21:02

Grin we have a great painter who can talk non-stop whilst he's speedily working away.
