Grin v odd about the woman throwing apples to the ducks Shock Surely a bit dangerous for the ducks?! I still haven't ventured to a park etc - I'm becoming a recluse Hmm

I didn't see the tennis on BBC Breakfast, but before lockdown we were saying we'd probably have to play without picking the tennis ball up, so getting it between your shoe and racquet, and flicking it up, then hitting it. Luckily an 80s childhood of having nowt else to do but practice tennis tricks means I can do that ok Grin

I would like to see a hurling/tennis mash up though Grin

JaneJeffer · 14/05/2020 12:05

Because we have no Gaelic games Sad they've been showing old matches on tv and some of the hurling injuries before helmets became compulsory were brutal but at the time it was totally acceptable! Seems insane now.

Spidey that picking up the ball technique was demonstrated exactly as you described it - I’ve never been able to do that.

I suppose then you just hit the ball over the net from the racquet without doing the ball toss?

Maybe even I could win Wimbledon with these new rules Grin

Raahh · 14/05/2020 12:21

I'm catching up with 'Sewing Bee'. I'm up to the tennis dress bit. And Joe saying his tennis icon is Judy Murray Grin.

kazzaD66 · 14/05/2020 14:30

I can pick the ball up between my foot and the racquet but I've never been able to pick up a ball just by bouncing the racquet on it, like the pros do. Confused

Thanks Jane so I'll ignore MN Premium then, although less ads would be great.

kazzaD66 · 14/05/2020 14:40

What a strange thing to do Raahh unless the woman really was using the ducks for target practice!

A LOT more traffic around our village today when we were out on our walk. Ridiculous but unfortunately, the main road through the village is a bit of a rat run Angry
Did discover more new footpaths and tracks today though, so not all bad.

DS has been told today that tomorrow is his last day of Year 11 schooling because that is when the teachers have to submit the predicted grades for GCSEs. Next Monday is a day off, apparently, and then those who are staying at school for A Levels (which he is) start the A Level courses on Tuesday.

magimedi · 15/05/2020 08:37

If you need cheering up this morning go & have a look at the LOCKDOWN LOOKALIKE thread.

One of the funniest I've seen for a while.

Raahh · 15/05/2020 09:11
Grin

This is how I usually look. But people might be forgiven for thinking lockdown did it.

This is me - my hair is driving me crazy!!

I am trying to get dd2 to do something useful. I've decided watching Horrible Histories countsGrin.

magimedi · 15/05/2020 10:19

Certainly does!

Of for a walk & we are going to drive up towards Beachy Head & have awalk on the downs. First time wew've gone further than 2 miles in months!

Raahh · 15/05/2020 10:24

That sounds great , magi. It's quite grey and cold today. The dog is looking at me expectantly. He will have to wait.

Fizzywinegum · 15/05/2020 10:40

Enjoy the walk magi - sounds great

I dread to think what I look like - Dennis Healey probably although, again, I can’t really blame lockdown for that!

When I was doing the NHS clap last night I was thinking that all the neighbours hair had grown (they were probably thinking the same about me!) Grin

Raahh · 15/05/2020 17:30

Forgot to say earlier- Happy Birthday Andy Murray. CakeWine

Fizzywinegum · 15/05/2020 19:01

Happy birthday Andy Cake Bear Cake

I haven’t checked out Stan’s Instagram for a while - going to have a look at what he’s been up to Grin

JaneJeffer · 15/05/2020 19:14

Stan has been training like a demon but reckons he's forgotten how to play tennis Grin

Hope Andy had a nice birthday.

I've had a long nap today. Didn't sleep well last night. Feeling very unproductive Sad

kazzaD66 · 15/05/2020 19:38

Happy birthday Sir Andy Grin

I think I saw earlier (but I can't remember where, so I may be making it up!) that no tennis tournaments will be played before 31st July, so pushed back another three weeks Sad

Fizzywinegum · 15/05/2020 20:23

Yes I saw that kazza - not sure if the US Open or rearranged French Open will go ahead? The logistics of international travel, crowds etc just seem insurmountable Sad

I had a look at Stan’s Instagram Jane - still quite a lot of cooking and wine drinking Grin

I watched Grayson Perry’s art club from a few weeks ago - Maggie Hambleton (?) was on - she likes tennis and drinks Special Brew and has crazy grey hair - I think that could be me if lockdown goes on for much longer!

She did that portrait of Andy that I think was mentioned on here a while ago.

Fizzywinegum · 15/05/2020 20:25

Maggi Hambling!

Raahh · 15/05/2020 20:27

Yes she did. I love Maggi!

JaneJeffer · 15/05/2020 20:35

Special Brew? Wowza Grin I like her drawing though!

I keep thinking how it should be Eurovision tomorrow and pissing myself off.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 15/05/2020 20:41

She has a can of Special Brew every day on her sunshine bench - I might introduce that tradition but maybe replace Special Brew with wine or gin (for now!)

I know - the Eurovision Song Contest - I’m not a massive fan but will miss it Sad

Raahh · 15/05/2020 20:42

Jane I am very sad about the lack of EurovisionSad. Last it was ruined due to rl stuff, and I was very much hoping that this year I could make up for it. But not to be.

Although for quite a few years prior to last year I failed to see the end of Eurovision due to peaking too early due to alcohol BlushGrin

And of course we are heading for what should have been the start of RG. And that is making me very, very sad.

Deep sigh.

JaneJeffer · 15/05/2020 20:49

I love the Eurovision thread on here. It's always hilarious.

OP posts:
Raahh · 15/05/2020 20:51

Jane I do too until I get too pissed.

I have even missed the semi final threads this year- I think they have had the best bits the last few years, some of the more batshit songs have been lost Grin.
