We have been discussing Our Girl from the first series back in 2014 and are now on thread 55!

Our Girl Series 4 - **Title edited by MNHQ**

Two words: Better writing, less soap.

Delphin · 16/04/2020 22:02

Okay, that were four.

eejittwo · 16/04/2020 22:05

No obnoxious brat and everlasting phone battery

Ilovelblue · 16/04/2020 22:05

You've a way to go yet then eejit.

Well I found that very worthwhile. Helped me form one or two conclusions. Main one being I find Throbber obnoxious. I expect they are making him so horrendous that he is going to redeem himself later on but for me it is already too late. He has been made to look a moron.

Poor Monk he really is now feeling all sorts of worries and if not careful could be borderline PTSD, while of course Georgie is now full blown PTSD. Monk's reaction to how Poya behaved at the ceremony for Fingers was a bit bizarre but in line with how pent up he is feeling. Think he objected to the glance at the watch because he thought it meant he was bored with it and watching the time cause he wanted to be elsewhere. Very disrespectful.

Thanks everyone

Is that a spoiler in the thread title OP?! I just glanced at it on the list of threads and saw it! I haven't watched this series Our Girl yet Sad

Delphin · 16/04/2020 22:28

@Ilovelblue, @simplekindoflife is right! I never noticed. Maybe we should just call it "The RIP thread"?

eejittwo · 16/04/2020 22:30

That’s it just finished! Grrr!

Ilovelblue · 16/04/2020 22:40

Hi both - episode four aired two days ago now so I'm not sure the heading could be classed as a spoiler as Fingers' death has already been on social media, written about by tv critics etc. With two more episodes to go, we will soon fill up this thread so the next one will be called something different anyway.

OP posts:
simplekindoflife · 17/04/2020 09:05

Two days isn't a very long time! Lots of people record programs to watch another time.

Can I kindly ask for no spoilers in the thread title next time please?

Ilovelblue · 17/04/2020 09:40

Magi, there have been a few characters who we've grown to like over time but who didn't impress us at first I guess. I wasn't keen on Monk at the start of series 2 (remember how he tried to chat Georgie up) and Maisie was very irritating but Throbber is going to have to do something spectacular in my eyes to redeem himself.

On the other hand, I've really taken to Prof. I suppose he is a replacement for Brains, but I find him more endearing.

Curious to see if there are any developments for Dr Antonio's character. He certainly wasn't observing any social distancing rules in the latest episode!

I’m a little suspicious of Dr Antonio’s role. He can’t become a love interest of Georgie’s, and they can’t kill off another main character!
Perhaps he really is just there to give us someone pretty to look at. But I think he’s going to betray Georgie’s friendship in the end, either about Omar or her PTSD.

Watch this space!

Magi84 · 17/04/2020 14:35

Think you could be right LochJess that it will turn out there is more to Dr Antonio than meets the eye - although must agree what does meet the eye is a bit of alright. After all as Molly would say he's a septic tank 😏

Ilovelblue · 17/04/2020 14:49

LochJess that's an interesting thought. I had wondered if Dr Antonio was just eye candy for the viewers but never considered he might betray Georgie. I hope he and Georgie don't get together, not after Elvis, CJ and heaven forbid that awful drippy Milan in Nepal. It would be all too easy a plot.

OP posts:
LochJessMonster · 17/04/2020 15:03

I don’t think it’s going to be like a big double cross betrayal but perhaps he agrees that the deal with Omar is sensible, or he agrees that Georgie has PTSD so needs to be discharged etc. Something along those lines.

It would be lazy screen writing if he becomes a love interest.

Or maybe he is just there for us to look at!

SavageBeauty73 · 17/04/2020 15:07

I really dislike Throbber's character. Makes me cringe every time he's on screen.

What's going on with Cheese and the junior medic? Grew up in the same place? Misspent youth?

Rhubarb01 · 17/04/2020 16:29

Lots of interesting theories there! I love a bit of hypothesising!

Must admit that for a short while in episode 4 I really wondered if eejit's shower moment would come true. The minute Georgie mentioned wondering if Elvis was really dead, I wondered if we were laying the way for a shower moment return - back at the Lane's house at the start of Series 2, the day before the wedding and none of it happened - hilarious but obviously not serious.

As for Dr Antonio, well that's an interesting one - I mean he has no particular reason to want to betray Georgie unless he is in on the plan to let Omar off the hook and wants to shut her up. Even then, it would surely only be on the grounds that he's a doctor and is responsible for Omar's medical care? He can't be part of some bigger conspiracy.

I think Georgie may perceive his involvement as betrayal - after all she's in no place to make any sensible judgments about anything. I think she'll try to do something to expose what she thinks is going on, maybe succeed in getting Omar brought to court, to face legal justice, and then have a breakdown when it all hits her. Now this might be unpopular, but perhaps some time later - months after getting help and counselling, she'll see the truth about the situation and realise that Dr Antonio was acting in her best interests. What I'd like to see is a hint of a better future - not anything overly romantic - but perhaps a post credits moment (like Molly and CJ) showing her seeking him out because there is friendship there and maybe, just maybe one day in the future there could be more - no bells, whistles or love hearts, just straightforward friendship....and Georgie's happyish ending as she leaves the army.

PapsofJura · 17/04/2020 20:05

Completely forgot to check in last night but have loved reading the catch up!

Ilovelblue · 17/04/2020 20:23

Jura glad you liked our watchalong. Often tongue in cheek I have to say! It was a great episode on Tuesday night - better than the whole of the last series!

LochJess whilst I don't want it to be a trite story of Georgie and Dr Antonio getting together, I do think that the American has his eye on Georgie. If that's the case, I hope she is strong enough to tell him to disappear pdq!

I guess that as we are now two thirds of the way through this series and there has been no word whatsoever about CJ getting back with Molly, then we are unlikely to hear anything at all. Apart from Georgie herself, there are now only Kingy and Monk who would have remembered him.

Poor Fingers. I don't feel as bad about his death though as I did about Elvis. It took me weeks to get over that.

OP posts:
Magi84 · 17/04/2020 21:03

Yes ilove I can relate to what you say about feeling sad Fingers has gone but not feeling so devastated as when Elvis was killed. The impact of that was tremendous I think after the reconciliation somehow you felt things might be going go wrong and you just were tensed up because you really did not want that to happen. Then when we had his voiceover reading the letter well I just wept, and as you know I have always been a stalwart CJ fan but Elvis just crept under the skin with his cheeky charm and actual vulnerability, well acted by LP.

I agree about the chance of any news of CJ and Molly now in this series is not high because we really only have Georgie, Kingy and Monk who could perhaps have some kind of conversation that would refer to them. Would dearly like to hear something though.

This series is proving to be first class.

Ilovelblue · 17/04/2020 21:23

Magi, yes, it was the letter from the grave with Elvis's voiceover which sent me over the edge I think! If you recall when we did watchalongs of that episode, we got to the scene of the letter from the grave and switched off.

He was such a cheeky chappie but sooooo good looking too. He was arrogant but a lovable rogue. Bones was a strange replacement. Definitely arrogant but not likeable at all in my view. Blue is a different character altogether. Self-assured but doesn't come across as arrogant and I just love his one liners!

I love Blue!
