We have been discussing Our Girl from the first series back in 2014 and are now on thread 55!

I think that, if we get round to doing a watchalong of the whole series, we should start with Nepal tour and skip straight to this one, missing out all the broccoli, and see if it makes better sense.

LochJessMonster · 22/04/2020 23:07

Sorry I’m a bit late but I’m just here to say I totally called Dr Antonio’s betrayal of Georgie regarding Omar! Grin

Loved the dog part, showed a fun and brotherly side to the team.

Interesting last part regarding the Afghan soliders, should lead to a good finale.

Ilovelblue · 22/04/2020 23:40

Brownie points LochJess! :)

That dog was gorgeous. How Throbber thought the dog could have been on death row, I have no idea. If they were going to put it to sleep, they wouldn't have had it in a kennel with a bandage on its paw, surely. He's not the brightest that's for sure. (In fact, I know this is only TV but how did he pass his basic training?)

Watchalong at 9 pm Thursday ladies?

Now thinking one of the Afghan soldiers is the real Omar. Will follow along tonight and see if I can pick up anything else to back up my theory. Makes for more interesting viewing. Might of course fall flat on my face when proved completely wrong!😜

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 23/04/2020 12:39

When the Afghan soldier was looking at his watch during Fingers's coffin procession I thought he was expecting a bomb to go off. Omar could be Poya - he has ingratiated himself with Georgie and others and often seems to be there when trouble starts.

Another series must be either ready or about to film. They've worked up the storyline between Cheese and Mimi and there's only going to be a few minutes to sort it out next week, with everything else going on. I'm guessing she's related to a senior officer, possibly the Brigadier, and has been the subject of perceived nepotism. Prof giving her a bit of a hard time about her lying about what her mum did supports this.

I really hated Throbber at the beginning but Cheese is a hundred times worse. Throbber's just an idiot, Cheese is malicious.

Magi84 · 23/04/2020 13:03

Hi TheSmall I have been tossing up between Poya and the older Afghan soldier as being Omar. Have actually just gone back on iPlayer and had a look at the spot where they tell Poya to curb his temper and must admit he does look a good candidate. He is a striking looking bloke for a start, bit of a hot head obviously but then again the older guy got mad at him for not staying cool,as it would spoil his plan. Much food for thought.
There is certainly something pretty peculiar in Mimi's background and this business between her and Cheese is intriguing. Must admit your idea re her maybe being connected to the Brigadier never occurred to me. Great that this series is providing so much food for thought and speculation. Would love to think they might need another series to continue that story but I don't think that is the way Our Girl works.

Throbber is as you say more likeable than Cheese now. Just a bit thick.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 23/04/2020 13:11

The Brig is obsessed with the status of his office door, isn't he? Always bellowing at people to close it, open it or wait outside it.

Magi84 · 23/04/2020 13:20

Yes he is definitely playing the role as the stuff shirt army senior officer. That inspection of the Afghan soldiers was a parody. Neither wonder the Afghans have a slanted opinion of the British Army if all the officers act like him! 😀

eejittwo · 23/04/2020 20:50

I have started early, and it is already buffering, so you'll soon catch me up.

Ilovelblue · 23/04/2020 20:58

Evening all.

I'm ready and waiting for 9 pm. Like everyone's theories! My own theory is that Mimi and Cheese were brought up in care and that's why she has lied about her parents. There was something in the first episode I think that her parents had her passing out photo on their piano. then the fact they'd been to Florida on holiday and most recently the story about them being teachers then her mother was a midwife.

eejittwo · 23/04/2020 20:59

I reckon something similar, ilove. Definitely something dodgy in her background.

Rhubarb01 · 23/04/2020 21:00

I second a life on the wrong side of the tracks and a background Mimi wants to hide for some reason. I think she lacks self esteem and the army has been her chance to escape her past. She doesn't want Cheese dredging everything up again.

Well....here we go....

Ilovelblue · 23/04/2020 21:01

Ready to go.... just showing the highlights from last week.

Ilovelblue · 23/04/2020 21:02

There has been an attack with some Americans injured. Georgie and Mimi attend but Kingy tells Georgie she's not allowed to treat them and sends her back.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 23/04/2020 21:03

Mimi is struggling with her own demons. Now Georgie know what it means to be taken off duty. Must be tough to be sidelined.

Rhubarb01 · 23/04/2020 21:03

The fifty sausage challenge...….

Ilovelblue · 23/04/2020 21:04

Oh Throbber, you just wade in with your size 12 boots!

I have really grown to like Monk. I really disliked him at the start of series 2.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 23/04/2020 21:05

Throbber is so dumb.

At least Monk has sensed that something is up between Cheese and Mimi.

I reckon the whole Omar thing could be some kind of decoy...maybe Dr Dishy knows the score and doesn't want Georgie sticking her oar in and messing it up.

Ilovelblue · 23/04/2020 21:06

Dr Antonio tells Georgie the horrors of the attack on the American soldiers. Are we right to be a little suspicious of the handsome doctor?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 23/04/2020 21:08

Sorry, I do like Dr Dishy so he'd better not be a bad guy and he's casting the odd flirty eye in Georgie's direction - you can't blame him.

Rhubarb01 · 23/04/2020 21:08

This Cheese and Mimi thing has echoes of Molly and Smurf and the "Back of the Indian Takeway"

Delphin · 23/04/2020 21:10

@Rhubarb01 : True!

eejittwo · 23/04/2020 21:10

He is so dishy at that point, it's hard to think he's there for anything other than eye candy!

Rhubarb01 · 23/04/2020 21:10

Is there no officer of a rank between the Brigadier and Lt Hurst? I can't imagine a Brigadier would normally spend so much time discussing things with a Lieutenant - due to our extensive knowledge of Soldier, Soldier there ought to be a Major and a Colonel somewhere!

Ilovelblue · 23/04/2020 21:11

I worked for an ex-army major a number of years ago. Despicable man - the Brig reminds me of him. Loves his authority. I actually feel sorry for Lt Hurst in all of this.
