Child of our time?

I searched but can’t find a thread about this. I missed it and can’t seem to watch on iPlayer. Does anyone know why? Do I have to wait fir the three episodes to air first?

And finally, the ‘children’ are now 20? Is it good?

Are there new episodes?

theschoolonthehill · 07/03/2020 16:21

I found this.

Child Of Our Time airs on BBC Two, at 9pm, on 11 March

Yes I think there are three episodes. I missed the first and iPlayer doesn’t appear to have it.

theschoolonthehill · 07/03/2020 17:12

Only two? Oh I thought it started this week and one was already aired?

I thought this had been cancelled years ago??

Verily1 · 07/03/2020 18:18

It hasn’t been on for years. So glad to see it back.

slipperywhensparticus · 07/03/2020 18:19

It's back?

caulkheaded · 07/03/2020 18:20

Oh hadn’t seen there were new episodes. I wonder if they will cover the death of Paris?

impossibletoday · 07/03/2020 18:30

In TV guides it is a 'Horizon' programme

ChicCroissant · 07/03/2020 18:42

It is a new episode, thanks for the heads-up - I'll have to set our box to record it, I'd love to see how they are doing now.

Glasscabinet · 07/03/2020 18:47

Oooh thanks for posting as I’ve watched child of our time since it started and was gutted when (I thought) it had ended.

june2007 · 07/03/2020 19:04

Last followup i saw was in 2016 as the kids were turning 16.

Thisismytimetoshine · 07/03/2020 19:22

I wonder how many are left at this point? There were comparatively few in the turning 16 one, which is a pity because the whole point was that they were chosen from diverse backgrounds.

Glasscabinet · 07/03/2020 19:30

@thisis

Maybe they’ll be some more as they won’t have to face pressure/bullying/banter from secondary school?

Thisismytimetoshine · 07/03/2020 19:31

True.

icelolly99 · 07/03/2020 22:06

Oh wow, I did not know Parys had died. That's so very sad.... I've followed this series from the beginning.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 07/03/2020 22:14

I'm not surprised so many of them no longer wanted to be involved. The same thing happened with the 7up children (for those old enough to remember)
I'm also sadly not surprised Parys was the one who didn't make it. He was the only one with a famous mother and in some of the programmes when the kids were growing up some of his behaviour was uncomfortable to watch.
I loved the programme when it first began, and I loved the 7up series, but I think, on reflection, no matter how carefully they are done and how sensitively, the impact on the children is not positive.

purpleme12 · 07/03/2020 22:17

It's got shown less and less often for years
It's hardly shown now
But yes I did always like it

theschoolonthehill · 07/03/2020 22:43

Is the 7up one finished completely? The last time I saw it some had emigrated, divorced and died. It was a sad but compelling programme.

lilgreen · 07/03/2020 22:45

Oh I hadn’t realised it was coming back. I thought someone said they weren’t making anymore. Always followed it as my DD is 19.

theschoolonthehill · 07/03/2020 22:46

Oh no I didn’t know Parys had died.

Why was his viewing uncomfortable to watch? I don’t remember that. The bond between him and his mother was so strong. I’m really sorry to read he passed away.

OP posts:
lilgreen · 07/03/2020 22:47

Me neither op. At 16 he was still very close to his mum.

purpleme12 · 07/03/2020 22:47

I don't remember any bad things about his behaviour either?

Elouera · 07/03/2020 22:53

I too thought it was stopped at age 16. I find it fascinating, along with the 7up series from various countries (Sth Africa, USSR etc). I also liked the Born Different series.

hazeyjane · 07/03/2020 22:57

..in some of the programmes when the kids were growing up some of his behaviour was uncomfortable to watch.
I don't remember that at all.

I loved Born To Be Different.
