I searched but can’t find a thread about this. I missed it and can’t seem to watch on iPlayer. Does anyone know why? Do I have to wait fir the three episodes to air first?

And finally, the ‘children’ are now 20? Is it good?

The programmes are not so regular now. Also watched it from the beginning, as have similar aged children.

Parts died of a suspected (accidental) drugs overdose and was in care towards the end. He was very troubled.

Standrewsschool · 07/03/2020 23:18

Parts, not parts - autocorrect!

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 07/03/2020 23:19

He would have been about 9-10 I suppose when I remember feeling uncomfortable watching it. His Mum was having a lot of trouble controlling his tantrums and blaming herself for his behavioural problems at school.

PickAChew · 07/03/2020 23:23

I hope there is some mention of Paryd, if Alison can handle it. The programs are coming to an end, so it would be good to remember him in the series.

Haworthia · 07/03/2020 23:24

I didn’t know this was still going! When was it supposed to end? Age 21 maybe?

It was such a great series for the first decade or so. I absolutely loved it. It’s such a shame that, as an overall project, it’s been such a failure.

Haworthia · 07/03/2020 23:28

I should add I think it was a failure because so many families dropped out and the BBC stopped caring about making decent programmes with the people who remained. But, I guess, who can blame the kids for not wanting their lives to be broadcast once they hit their teens.

And Parys, shit, I’m ashamed to say I’d forgotten about him. What a horrible mess. I have such clear memories of him as a little toddler obediently staying next to the car as he waited for Alison to cross the road with him. Such a lovely little boy who had to take on a lot of responsibility at such a young age.

Verily1 · 08/03/2020 00:23

I worry that the wee boy James I think maybe didn’t make it either after him and his mum had to run off and hide from a violent ex. She was so vulnerable.

Most of the kids are on Facebook now so don’t really need the bbc to tell us what they’re up to!

Standrewsschool · 08/03/2020 08:46

The kids will all be turning 21 around now, so maybe it’s a last hurrah.

Notredamn · 08/03/2020 08:51

Ohh I've set to record. I grew up with some of the programmes mentioned and love them all.

I was very sorry to hear about Parys.

JustDanceAddict · 08/03/2020 09:02

Thanks, I’ll watch them. Feel I’ve grown up w them as they’re not a lot older than my DD.
It was very sad about Parys. And yes I can see that teens would not want their lives broadcast on TV - mine wouldn’t!

TowandaForever · 08/03/2020 15:14

What are the children up to @Verily1 ?

Verily1 · 08/03/2020 20:39

One was pregnant.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 08/03/2020 20:49

Charley was lovely, and Harriet.

Charley’s mum did an amazing job- she went back to college after having her dd v young and became a community police officer. She also handled her daughter’s first serious relationship quite well.

I prefer Born To Be Different tbh- there’s one of the girls, I think her name is Zoe, who is just a absolute ray of sunshine and I always make sure to watch each new series to see what she’s been up to.

Notredamn · 08/03/2020 21:50

I agree, Terrible. I'm sure Zoe posted on a thread about Shelbie sadly passing away, saying the programme should be back on soon.

Qwerty543 · 08/03/2020 23:02

I loved Child of Our Time. Thanks for the heads up!

bugbhaer · 09/03/2020 09:32

Alison was on Woman’s Hour not so long ago, gave a very honest and brave interview I thought.

PatchworkElmer · 09/03/2020 09:41

Thanks for the heads up, OP. Will record it.

HugeAckmansWife · 09/03/2020 19:01

7 up is still going. I work with one of them, or did, he's retired now.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 09/03/2020 19:08

Thank you for the heads up. I’ve watched it from the beginning. So sad to hear about Parys.

Chocrock · 09/03/2020 19:29

I can’t wait for this! I think I have missed the last few years, has it been in every year?

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 09/03/2020 19:52

I found this a fascinating programme to watch as my son will turn 20 this year too. So sad about Parys, he was such a lovely boy, but yes he did seem to become quite troubled as he grew older.
The boy from the abusive background, I think James who you mentioned Verily1 broke my heart. He just seemed to have everything going against him didn't he. Poor kid

Verily1 · 11/03/2020 21:22

Anyone watching?

Elouera · 11/03/2020 21:27

Yep!

bobbypinseverywhere · 11/03/2020 21:28

This is the first time I’ve ever seen this - is it just me or do most of the kids (now young adults) seem like complete moany brats? I mean I never bought into the whole ‘millennial’ problem but it’s hard to watch them being so barely functional...
