Child of our time?

I searched but can’t find a thread about this. I missed it and can’t seem to watch on iPlayer. Does anyone know why? Do I have to wait fir the three episodes to air first?

And finally, the ‘children’ are now 20? Is it good?

Was Charlie (in care) the daughter of the mum who joined the police? If so I'm really shocked. I hope James is ok.

I loved seeing the now grown up children - the three featured seemed thoughtful and mature despite their sometimes difficult life experiences.

But I thought there was another episode of this? I can't believe that's it - I feel really short-changed. Of course many of the children may not have wanted to participate, but clearly quite a few did.

I also felt attached to their parents - would have been good to have had some reflections from them.

What happened to the previous series? Are they still available?

The only one I can recall is the lad being driven to tennis lessons.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 12/03/2020 14:30

The triplets and twins were quite vocal in the episode(s) when they were mid-teens, as was Will (the tennis-playing one).

Notredamn · 12/03/2020 14:35

I couldn't disagree more, bobby. Moany brats unable to function? Must've been watching a different programme.

I felt emotional throughout the entire episode for some reason. I also think it's a shame that no parents (present day) were featured and so few stories focussed on but still enjoyed it.

Haworthia · 12/03/2020 14:36

@BookMeOnTheSudExpress The book is online - not the full text but quite a bit. I posted a screenshot of Charlie G’s story. There’s a photo of her and her mother.

There's interviews on the bb c website - www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zbjk92p

I was so emotional watching the episode. Eve just struck me as a lovely young woman and I’m so glad she has found happiness. Her mum dying broke my heart but her lovely dad and his reaction to her coming out was just amazing. I also felt broken thinking about poor Parys. I have been watching this programme since I was their age now and it has been an incredible project.

ageingdisgracefully · 12/03/2020 16:12

Is Parys Alison Lapper's son?Confused

paininthepoinsettia · 12/03/2020 16:22

Yes William's mother had grown up very deprived and had been a cleaner when she met the father. She was very insecure about her roots and put on an attempted MC accent. Her in-laws said they had to stay in the village as William was going to be a vet in that village like the rest of his male relatives Hmm

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 12/03/2020 17:20

Yes, Parys was Alison's son

Is it me misremembering or did the Northern Irish boy, Ethan, have a mother who came across as extremely hard work on camera?

LIZS · 12/03/2020 17:29

It was rather sad. Eve's story always affects me but so many of the others seemed stressed and anxious too and feeling they were struggling to achieve their potential. And of course Parys. Sad

In the end I was not convinced they were that representative of their generation - diversity was minimal, it was biased towards middle classes, several multiple births, for example - but that may have been due to the families who fell off the radar.

I too thought there was a Charley whose mum was a teen single parent but who trained to be a nurse and had another child. The last visit covered her living with her boyfriend.

Verily1 · 12/03/2020 18:14

Charlie on tv with her child was the daughter of teen mum Toni.

Charlotte L is now called Lottie.

Charlotte G is now known as Charlie, was on this tv episode but apparently has a dc.

I don’t know why tyrese has been erased from Wikipedia?

James was the boy who disappeared from the series due to the kidnapping.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 12/03/2020 18:16

You would probably think that the type of people who would sign up to be involved in something like this would be a particular 'type' and therefore not necessarily representative of the wider population.

Notredamn · 12/03/2020 18:23

I think the selection was more representative of a 'normal' slice of society as it was before the explosion of reality TV and the wannabe celebs those shows have increasingly attracted since people started getting work/instagram sponsorships off the back of them.

BizarreBizarre · 12/03/2020 18:29

One of the kids was kidnapped@Verily1

No, Charlie G was in the episode with her baby boy. The other Charlie (who I always remember as Charlie Plaster, but that was her stepdad’s surname so she may use another name now) has a child IIRC but wasn’t featured.

BizarreBizarre · 12/03/2020 18:29

?

Haworthia · 12/03/2020 18:34

I am sure James was in the montage last night. I posted this screenshot - top right is him, right? And yet he wasn’t featured in the programme OR in the videos online. What a wasted opportunity.

LIZS · 12/03/2020 18:38

It was Toni's daughter I was thinking of.

TowandaForever · 12/03/2020 18:39

@seekingwaxwings

I agree that it was a shame not to see the parents on the programme last night.

TowandaForever · 12/03/2020 18:42

I wondered if Eve and her dad were still evangelical Christians. Anyone know?

DoubleAction · 12/03/2020 18:45

Yes I wondered at his response to her coming out .

ScottishDiblet · 12/03/2020 19:22

I have no idea about Eve and her dad but I sort of assumed maybe they weren’t still evangelical Christians? His response to her coming out just blew me away, having been so religious. Did I misremember or did Eve have a lovely stepmother now?

caulkheaded · 12/03/2020 19:29

They are still evangelical Christians. I (vaguely) know them through the old work they used to do at the retreat centre.
