Very disappointing. Such a good cast, but a ridiculous storyline. It might have made a bit more sense if she had hinted at scandals in the village without mentioning names, and then everyone would be wondering who it could be. A shame, but I won't be watching next week.

Agree. Looked very pretty but completely silly. Why they wouldn’t switch off the radio was ridiculous. Think it was just a vehicle for Dawn French

FabulouslyFab · 04/03/2020 22:24

I really enjoyed it!

thenightsky · 04/03/2020 22:40

I quite enjoyed it. Will stick with it.

Notonthestairs · 04/03/2020 23:13

I quite enjoyed it! Now they've got the outline of the story I expect it will switch to focusing on the families she was gossiping about.

pigsDOfly · 04/03/2020 23:23

I found it disappointing.

It was just so very slow and plodding and rather silly.

I might try it again next week and see where it goes, but if I've got something better to do I probably won't worry about missing it.

FlatulantTrousers · 05/03/2020 01:40

I really liked it! Not my usual thing and really just had it on as background noise while I fiddled with my phone, but I got sucked in and gonna watch next week too :) Thought the lad playing the strange kid (Tommy I think?) was a cracking little actor too, in what little we saw of him. Didn't think the "Polish" girl looked or sounded very Polish though :/

augustusglupe · 05/03/2020 02:07

I enjoyed it too, more than I thought I would. Will definitely watch next week.

HelgaHere1 · 05/03/2020 08:12

I liked it. It's the way you gossip about people you know with a close friend, critical, a bit bitchy but a horrible thought to have them hear everything you've said.
Exaggerated for interests sake, but I will watch with interest to see how it pans out.

Clawdy · 05/03/2020 09:24

But saying in an interview that your best friend isn't " the sharpest tool in the box" is beyond ridiculous. It should all have been much more subtle - with no names mentioned.

Dawn French is no good without Jennifer Saunders, I'm biased, just don't like her. Won't watch again

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/03/2020 13:46

Hmmm seems 50/50

I need to watch and give my opinion

MrsKingfisher · 05/03/2020 14:12

I like Dawn French she's a great actor but this was disappointing and I find that whatever Mark Heap is in he's never too dissimilar to any other of his characters, a bit of a bumbling idiot. There was quite a lot of Jim from Friday Night Dinner coming through.

Shame I was looking forward to this series!

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/03/2020 14:48

ive just seen and actually enjoyed

was a bit slow but then her radio speech came up 45m in and was funny

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/03/2020 14:52

And is the pub shown the same one as the coroner ?

HeartyGreenSalad · 05/03/2020 15:17

I was disappointed too, there was something lacking. Didn't find it funny at all

PaulGalico · 05/03/2020 15:18

Dawn French is the same whatever the programme - Vicar of Dibley, Delicious..which spolit it a bit for me. You find yourself watching 'Dawn French' rather than the character she is portraying.

pigsDOfly · 05/03/2020 16:03

Yes, agree PaulGalico Most of the characters she plays and the way she plays them are interchangable.

Every character: slightly bumbling, well meaning but ultimately getting it wrong and missing the point.

longwayoff · 05/03/2020 19:22

Where was Doc Martin? Was expecting Dawn to keel over and bang her head, bleeding copiously, Doc to turn up, kick the dog and faint at the sight of blood. Air ambulance arrives for the pair of them, offering we viewers extensive views of our beautiful coastline as they carted off to hospital. Seaside seems to be cropping up with increasing frequency in itv offerings.

longwayoff · 05/03/2020 19:23

Tv offerings, not just itv.

unluckyagain · 05/03/2020 19:38

I thought it was ok. Nice scenery and easy watching. I'll watch it next week but probably wouldn't worry if I missed it.

The biggest problem for me is Dawn French. I just don't think she's a very good actor - whatever she's in she always plays the same character. It was hard to distinguish between Maggie and the Vicar of Dibley. She's just not very good in my opinion.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 05/03/2020 20:43

Perfectly enjoyable if you're not expecting high brow drama and can take it for what it is.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/03/2020 20:53

We she be right

Or an over active imagination 😂😂

NCTDN · 05/03/2020 21:55

I'm undecided. Send a bit like it's just for the dawn French fan club so far.

NCTDN · 05/03/2020 21:56

*Seems

CoolCarrie · 05/03/2020 22:24

Dawn French lives in Cornwall so that’s why it was filmed there.

French and Saunders was always a hit or a miss imo; some of their spoofs were very funny, Titanic, Mama Mia and Madonna in particular, same with Ad Fab, very funny at times, but the film was awful. Neither of them are good as straight actresses.
If you watch The Stranger Jennifer Saunders is crap, very hard to take her seriously, odd casting but then the whole series was crap, but on the other hand her writing is great, Jam And Jerusalem was a great series with an excellent cast. Her husband was good in Eastenders recently.
